Contractions and sent home!

Last night around 7:00pm I started having pretty intense contractions. They started out about 15-20 minutes apart and kept getting stronger, more intense, and then got to be very painful and about 10 minutes apart. My doctor told me to come on in if they got 10 minutes apart because I live an hour away from hospital and this is my second and since I was dilated 2cm and 50% effaced on Wednesday so we went to L&D. By the time we got there they were about 3-5 minutes apart and still very painful. I knew theses were not the typical BH I had been feeling for months because they were so intense. Sure enough when we get there they check me and I had no change so they decided to monitor me and LO and then check back to see if the contractions were doing anything. They ended up keeping me overnight and I continuously had contractions all night and into the morning. This morning after checking me again still no change they decided to give me brethine to stop my contractions. They had to end up giving me two shots because the first did not help. They sent me home and told me to be sure and come back if the same thing happened again or if I had any other of the labor signs. I am home now and resting. No contractions at this point. It was a rough, scary night with no sleep. I am so glad I went in though. Don't ever hesitate to go get checked out if you are unsure about anything. BTW I am 36 weeks 3 days. So I am glad LO was not ready just yet and decided to hang out for a little while longer. I posted this because I too, had been wondering about the difference in BH and real labor pains. I can tell you there was no mistaking these for BH. They were very intense and painful. To the point I could not walk or talk through them. They started at my lower back and radiated all the way around front with pains shooting down my legs and the feeling that someone was literally tearing my insides out and that something was going to burst or tear down there. So much pressure on the hips and pelvis. Trust me you will know when you need to get going. Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend and thanks for reading my novel.

I am 36 weeks. They said had the contractions made me dilate more or thin out more they would have kept me and let labor continue. But since they weren't doing anything they decided to stop contractions and send me home.

This is true, as at 36 wks the baby is still preterm but with very good prognostic if born, and the date is never exact, if you are 36.3 weeks, probably from conception date you are actually 37 weeks, which is a mature baby. But they should have their reasons to stop contractions and send you home. For me this was a real labour you went through.
