No sleepsack?

Ok, I know most LOs are probably sleeping without a sleepsack by now, but DD will only cuddle with a blanket, not cover up with one, and she moves around in her crib so much that sleepsacks are the easiest way to keep her covered. Except now she is absolutely refusing to put one on, and completely loses it as soon as I even pick it up. It's plenty big on her so she can still walk around in it, but she doesn't want to wear it. It's warm tonight so I put her to bed without it, but what about as it gets colder? Do other LOs actually stay covered underneath a blanket?

Re: No sleepsack?

  • Does anybody tuck the blanket in to help keep it in place?

I find that Jack is now beginning to re-cover himself if he gets cold. However, this kid is always hot and sleeps better cold.
He hated sleep sacks though and has been sleeping with a blanket since 6 months.

This is us exactly. I would ditch the sleep sack. DD is always warm, but I dress her in a t-shirt/shorts pjs set for bed. I have a fleece blanket for her that's a little smaller than a twin size blanket. She moves around a lot, but having a bigger blanket helps to keep her covered when she moves around.

    Good luck!

  • I freaked out about this and still do to an extent. dd still sleeps in footed pajamas for this reason. I would switch to those at this point. I actually googled this and studies have shown that babies actually sleep best at 68 degrees. That is cooler than we keep the house so I just pile her blankies in, tuck her in and the blanket it off pretty quick. She is never under it in the morning and appears warm. I think you can do it safely, no problem!

  • Taylor still sleeps without a blanket on him. He has a blanket over his sheets and then a 2nd one that should be used to cover with, but I find he just kind of snuggles into them. I have him sleep in the Carter's pants and short sleeve sets in the summer, and warmer long sleeves in the winter. Like PP said, I think if he were cold he would either cover himself or wake us up!

  • DS sleeps in just a diaper and he has a small blanket with him but most of the time he isn't covered with it. When it starts getting colder I will put pajamas on him and fleece footed Jammie's in winter.

I've been worried about blankets for winter. He has really surprised me lately how good he is at covering himself up. We just use these thermal blankets right now but once it gets cold I'll put his quilt that my great aunt made for him, it's larger and actually has some weight to it. I've noticed he is starting to settle on one side of the crib more, head facing west, feet facing east rather then just every way possible. Next on my list is to get him a real pillow, not just a stuffed animal pillow.

Also once it's cold, we'll put him in footed pj's, either a thick cotton or on really cold nights fleece.

  • I read that being cool at night is better, lets the body refresh after the day. DD sleeps with just cotton pajamas and has a blanket but doesn't keep it on.

Pillows scare me, DD sleeps face down. I'm sure she'd get it and turn her head but it makes me really nervous.
  • I took an afghan-type blanket and folded it flat the length of the width of the crib and wrapped it once in a fleece blanket to create a mock flat pillow for DD when she was sick and she loves it. It is flat enough that she uses it facedown and has been fine.

@jobiann‌ Can I recommend a regular sized flatter pillow over a toddler pillow. When Jack was sick, I tucked a flat pillow under his fitted sheet to help him breathe easier. He loved it. So I went on amazon and bought a toddler pillow. What a waste!! It's tiny, not at all flat and dense....very dense. Needless to say he hates it and it's now in his closet. ;)
Yeah, I was struggling with should I get him a toddler or just a regular one. So thanks for the advice! I need to go personally pick a pillow though, because I don't want a big fluffy one. And I've been trying to find a Mickey Mouse pillow case and I can only find them included in a toddler bedding set.
