Cramping Normal?

I didn't realize until just yesterday how often I get nasty cramps! Every so often I'll be sitting down and it'll hit and knock the wind out of me for a couple seconds. More often though I get them right after I stand up (the cramp makes me immediately sit back down or curl up) or after I urinate.

I've noticed that I get them maybe 2-3 times a day randomly. They pass within a couple seconds but man do they suck! I think I've probably been getting them for the last 3-4 weeks and just never realized how often it was happening because I just feel like crap over all most of the time.

Is this normal? If any of you girls get this - what do you do to prevent it or alleviate the pain when it happens? (other than promptly sit or curl up).

Thanks!!

  • Hmm could be normal but the after urinating thing concerns me. I would go in to get a UA and make sure you don't have a UTI... sounds a little suspicious to me.

  • I get cramping like this when I stand up or change positions too quickly.  In my case, I'm pretty sure it's round ligament pain.  However, I'm not sure if RLP happens when you're sitting perfectly still....

  • Usually BH aren't painful.  Maybe still some RLP?  I sneezed last night and had HORRIBLE cramps for about 10 minutes afterwards.  Then all of a sudden, they were gone...like they never happened.  I chalked it up to RLP.

I've also heard that dehydration can cause cramping.  Make sure you're drinking lots of water.

  • The doc just called back and said that it is likely ligament pain. He said after urinating and releasing the bladder that the muscle are likely getting a spasm when they retract. Yay for not UTI!

  • This sounds like round ligament pain to me. Is it more of sharp pain then a cramp? There isn't much you can do about RLP.
  • I get similar cramps after I go to the bathroom too- the doc said that as long as it doesnt burn when I pee then I'm OK!  I also noticed that they are worse when I hold it for a long time!
