Middle names.

We think we have our first names picked and now we are starting to talk about middle names for our twin girls. I am 18 weeks, so first names have a slight chance of changing.

Right now for middle names we have thought of Elizabeth (Middle name of my living Grandma). Irene (Middle name of my deceased Grandma) Lynn (My middle name and my Moms) Betty (My husbands deceased Grandmothers middle name or maybe Janet her first name since I don't like how Betty flows with our picks ). My husband also has another deceased Grandmother, but we are unsure of her middle name first name is Marjorie.

Our first name picks are Isla and Claire. We love how Claire Elizabeth sounds, but I feel guilty that we have deceased Grandmothers that maybe we should honor. I think maybe middle
names will be harder then first for us. Or should we just pick something random and not worry about honoring. We also don't want hurt feelings.

I think you should stop feeling guilty, and name your DDs what you like best.

That being said-- I like Claire Elizabeth, but feel like that's a very expected combo. I do really like Claire Irene!

If you do feel like you want to stick with a famly name-- I like Isla Marjorie OK. I don't think Isla sounds good with Janet, Lynn or Betty.

I didn't realize that Claire Elizabeth was a common combo. lol. It sounds so good together. I don't like how any of DH's relatives flow with our name picks, but he did say that he would like to honor one of his relatives if I honor one of mine. (he doesn't really like how they sound together either)

We might have to go random. I do like Claire Irene. Any other suggestions?

I like Claire Irene and Isla Elizabeth, but I don't think DH would go for me using both middle names from my side. I will have to talk to him about it.

Two middles, a la Claire Elizabeth Irene or Isla Marjorie Janet.

By the way Elizabeth honors a Betty, since they are basically the same name.

I just talked to DH on the phone and he likes Claire Irene and Isla Elizabeth. He is pretty sure that Irene was his Great Grandmothers name. He also agrees with me on the flow with Betty/Janet/Marjorie/Lynn

I told him I was so surprised and happy we agreed on these names so quick and with no arguing!

Claire Irene and Isla Elizabeth... What do you guys think?

I agree with @Helenahhandbasket‌: pick the name you love and don't feel guilty. If you're worried about hurt feelings or are trying to use a family name because you think you "need to," try looking around for something else. You don't have to honor someone for the name to have meaning. But if you want to honor a family member, honor whomever you like, living or passed. It will be special either way.
