***Workout Wednesday***

Hopefully we weren't all like this this past weekend (although I have to admit, I was)

Did you meet your goals?

GTKY: What fun things did you end up doing for labor day?

Re: ***Workout Wednesday***

  • What did you do this week? Elliptical, walking, swimming. Prenatal yoga starts Saturday, I'm excited for that.

Did you meet your goals? No, I missed a couple of workouts. But I'm making up for a lackluster August (have already done two gym runs, swimming, and lots of walking in three days).

GTKY: What fun things did you end up doing for labor day? Day of, we went to the pool, hit the gym, laundry. But the weekend as a whole was fun: National Book Festival, a couple of nice dinners out, bought some needed furniture.
Awaiting our bundle of cute chaos.

  • What did you do this week?
Ok amount of running, walking and some tennis. Oh... And some serious lovin' that got the heart rate up big time so I'm counting it.

    Did you meet your goals?
I didn't run Monday but we played about an hour of tennis.. It was fun but not as aerobic as I wish it was... But lots of laughing at our mediocre skills. Wish I could find the time to run more.

GTKY: What fun things did you end up doing for labor day?
My guy's daughter's bday, a lot of napping and snuggling with some college football!!!

  • What did you do this week? I got my run in on Friday and my gym session on Thursday.  Snatch is less fun now than before, but I upped my distance again on the run and am now back up to 4 km instead of under.  This week I went to rugby training on Monday because we were having a social afterwards and I did a little bit of distance running and a few variable length sprints.  They were start on the ground ones, so I planked instead of laid flat.  I also hit my gym session last night.  Baby does not like kettlebell swings, so I'll have to keep those at eye level instead of overhead for awhile.

Did you meet your goals? Yes, and I should be able to keep it up.

GTKY: What fun things did you end up doing for labor day? Saturday and Sunday were awful for weather, so it was a bit lazy.  Saturday, I had a dolphin swim, which was fun (me, 2 trainers, 3 dolphins).  Sunday we did the bulk of painting in Surprise's room.  Monday I went to rugby and then came home and did a little more painting (finished yesterday) and we played mini golf.

  • So. This is going to sound weird.

I've lived in apartments the last three and a half years, so I was used to having a built in gym that was close & that I could use anytime. Now that I live in a house, i haven't been working out as much (or really at all) because I'm terrified of running outside. I am cheap, so a gym membership doesn't really seem like a necessary expense when I think of all the other things I should be spending money on.

What should I do? I'm not really a yoga person either...so any ideas of workouts I can do? Or should I break down and get a gym membership?
  • I did spin, body pump, hiit class, amt machine, ran and free weights.

Yes, 6 days this week! My eating habits have been crap though. I need to get it together.

On labor day we grilled burgers and hung out in the back yard (just DH, kids and I). I spent a good portion of the day resting and getting DD1 ready (bag packed, uniforms washed, etc) for her first day of school, which was yesterday.

@foxslaw why are you afraid of running outside? just because you will be alone? I would look into running groups that meet in your area (ask at the local running stores, many by me organize their own), then you can meet with a bunch of people at specific times (they are all different so you can find one that works with your schedule) to run outside - then you won't be alone.

I don't really have the room, but if you do you could probably score a decent treadmill (or bike or elliptica - which ever you use at the gym) off craigslist or something for ~ the same price as a yr. gym membership. Then you can run at home whenever you want and don't have to leave home. It could be more of an investment - used over multiple yrs. - than just the membership.

There are also aerobic workouts, like P90x or similar - that you can do at home off a DVD or computer that isn't yoga. I would look into that as well.
  • As evidenced by the posted gif - and the fact that I went out of town to visit friends this week means I only did 2/3 of my workouts both last week and this week   :(  The run this morning was brutal. SOOOOO slow.

I spent all weekend eating bad food. I also went to one of my favorite book stores (that they dont have in the south) and hitting up a country fair.
  • What did you do this week?  boxing Wed, two runs, Thurs and Sat., step class on Fri and nothing on Sun & Mon, I have to get to gym today!

Did you meet your goals? not really, had company Thurs  - Sun and was tired

GTKY: What fun things did you end up doing for labor day? Went to two nights of Phish concerts, danced my butt off and was the official DD of the weekend.  Monday we went to the wildlife sanctuary
  • Running, bike ride, and Barre.

Didn't meet my goals (5 days a week) because I went out of town and Monday was a holiday so I skipped a few days.

Labor day fun = wedding. Although it would have been way more fun if I were drinking, it got pretty wild.

@foxslaw also wondering why you are afraid to run outside. Are you near any parks where other people go running? That way you can be near other people but not have to run with a group (if group running isn't your thing). Personally I love running outside and hate running inside or on a treadmill so just trying to understand.
  • I don't want to sound dramatic, and it might seem silly, but the reason I don't like running outside is i had a close family friend who was abducted/murdered while she was jogging. I just get kind of paranoid about it. @freegiraffe‌ @MaddScientist‌
  • It's also a community I just moved to, that's close to a highway, so there aren't bike trails or anything.
  • I ran for the first time in weeks! I was a really regular distance runner pre pregnancy but I was so so sick for weeks and then just exhausted and afraid to start again. But I am BACK! And it wasn't horrible. So, my goal is to keep it up.
I'm living in Germany now so Labor Day wasn't spent doing anything American. Just another day here :)
  • @foxslaw‌ totally reasonable! How terrifying. There are lots of online/DVD videos to do in your home if you've got the space. Hulu has some great Yoga videos, for example.
  • I jogged and did a couple 21 day fix home workouts.. Wish I would have done more! My appetite is big.. Trying to make better choices! Labor Day I sanded a dining room table I am wanting to refinish!
  • I went back to Zumba for the first time today! (I did nothing from 6-17 weeks...pathetic I know) It was awesome! I modified the more intense moves but feel great...I'm sure I'll be sore tomorrow though. My goal going forward is at least 4 workouts per week and I'm really hoping to stick to it. Labor Day weekend was pretty uneventful. My daughter came down with strep so we laid low.
  • What did you do this week? Barre, T25, elliptical and weights

Did you meet your goals? yep 4 days plus lots of long walks! I joined the prenatal fitness center too so looking forward to lots of barre, yoga and pilates classes there this month. New goal is to go there twice a month.

GTKY: What fun things did you end up doing for labor day? ugh nothing fun. traveled non stop!
  • What did you do this week?  Swimming and lots of hiking!

Did you meet your goals?  Yes

GTKY: What fun things did you end up doing for labor day?  We spent the long weekend in Murren, Switzerland.  My legs are so sore from all of the walking/hiking we did.   It was so nice to get away - no internet, TV, etc.    I noticed a huge difference with my lung capacity with the high altitude.  Tried to take it easy but had to keep up with the boys as well.

  • I'm just getting back to working out, first trimester kicked my a$$ so I'm
    thankful to feel human again!

What did you do this week?
I also do the 21 day fix videos @alyharwell‌.

    Did you meet your goals?
    So far so good!

GTKY: What fun things did you end up doing for labor day?
Drove 3.5 hours home after visiting with family and friends for a week.
  • What did you do this week? Lots more walking, weights, yoga and some hardcore manual labor

Did you meet your goals? Yes! I had been using gardening and our outdoor work to count for workouts. Decided to get in 4 others that weren't yoga or gardeny things. So far, great!

GTKY: labor weekend fun? I live overseas, but oddly Labor Day coincided with a national holiday here. Fun! Took my dog for a looong walk, lifted weights, laid by the pool. Some good solo chill time.
  • What did you do this week?

I went hiking two days with my 2yo in his Ergo, then walked around our state fair 3 days in a row. We logged over 20,000 steps each day at the fair! :)

    Did you meet your goals?
Sadly no, :-/ the hiking and walking were great. However, with all that yummy fair food I didn't do much good burning calories hiking :)

GTKY: What fun things did you end up doing for labor day?

Went to the fair with the family, my 2yo loved seeing all the animals. Had a great day!
  • What did you do this week? Weights. Lots of arms. And walking. Plyometrics.

Did you meet your goals? I haven't set goals yet as I am still getting into the swing of things post ms. Ready to step it up though!

GTKY: What fun things did you end up doing for labor day? Fun errands with the hubs.
