Pregnant and a bridesmaid.. HELP!

So I have been asked to be a bridesmaid in December and I'll be 7 months by then I thought we were going to order my dress sooner to the wedding but I got a text from the bride saying we had to order this weekend! I am 15 weeks now and fit in the size 8 sample they had they have mentioned ordering me a size 16 and taking it down. Do any moms have any experience with this? I know our bodies all grow differently with babies but I think a 16 from what articles I've found will be way too big. Any advice would be appreciated thanks!!

Re: Pregnant and a bridesmaid.. HELP!

  • It depends on the kind of dress you get. If it's an empire or flowy dress you might not have to go that big but if it's a fitted dress you may need to go with a 16 so you have room for the bump and just have the top taken in.

  • The waist is at the "natural waist" line so they have mentioned just bringing it up a bit because it would cut right at the top of my bump but the bottom is flowy they stuffed a pillow under last time lol just to see how it would look and the skirt had plenty of room.
  • And I completely agree with taking it in and being better safe than sorry I just don't want a huge bill for taking in so much and maybe reconstructing some of the dress because the dress alone is $250!!
  • I would order bigger. 2 of my maids went just a size smaller and lost weight and it was still tight. Should consider boob size too!
  • Here is the actual dress :)
  • Can you try on the 16 with one of those pregnancy bump pillows? That is what I did when I was a bridesmaid for my sister's wedding. I was 7 months pregnant. I tried it with the pillow and then bought a size bigger and it for perfectly. I was also 6 mo pregnant for my BFFs wedding and just went with the size that fit with the pillow.

  • Just my 2 cents...I honestly think 16 is a little ridiculous if you're fitting in an 8. I'd definitely go bigger, but a size 16 seems like a big jump. Maybe a 12? The size 8 dress looks like it will fit over your impending bump. Like a PP said, I think you need to take the bust/back into consideration.

  • I'm a bridesmaid in October and I'll be 6 months. I ordered my dress before I was pregnant but was trying. I ordered it 2 sizes bigger. They told me it's cheaper and easier to have it taken in than have fabric added. I am going to have it altered 2-3 weeks prior to the wedding. Make sure you go to a good seamstress who will be able to predict all the ways your body will change. It's worth the $$ because it'll fit way better and look good. Plus you'll be comfy!
  • Could you go to a maternity store where they have the faux bump and take a measurement with it on just to give them an idea of what you'll need? It looks like the dress is flowy enough that you won't need to go enormous for it to be accommodating.

  • Pregnancy weight gain is highly unpredictable. I think a 16 might be a good idea just to have taken in how you need it. Different parts will grow at different rates so you'll want the extra fabric to fit you. If you have to find s way to fit the dress you'll be miserable and uncomfortable all night. Also, that's an adorable picture.

  • I was 7.5 months pregnant at my best friends wedding, the seamstress talked me into get a size 16 dress which prepregnancy I was 10, it was the worst decision. My dress was huge everywhere. I felt so uncomfortable the whole wedding and it was so heavy, they can only take the dress in so much, I had so much extra fabric which made it 10x worse. try stuffing your dress at you chest n adding a bump, it also depends on what child this is for you
  • Hmm you look pretty petite anyway? I agree at a certain point, too big is just as bad...I think if they're raising the waist, the skirt looks flowy enough that two sizes for boobs and perhaps some dreaded backfat might work? Great dress!

  • I think a 12 or 14 max. A 16 sounds too big. Good luck deciding
  • I guess depends on your body type now...8 is tiny so 16 seems too big I would say a 12 for what @Irishcurls‌ said.leave room for boobs/back fat and your belly should be fine if they are raising it....I have to order my bm dress for a june wedding by end of month no clue what size to get either
  • I am in the opposite boat. I will be trying on bridesmaids dresses while I am 7 months pregnant for a wedding in May. It will be 2 and half months after the baby comes. It's hard to predict the way your body will change in pregnancy and postpartum. I'm hoping she goes with a long flowy dress to help make my decision easier.

Your dress looks long and flowy. I would go to a 12 or 14 but not double the size. I am an 8 prepregnancy and I was all belly so a 12 would have been able to be fitted to the right size I think at 7 months pregnant. If your nervous for getting a 12 maybe do a 14.
  • For my sisters wedding my cousin was 8 months pregnant. When we ordered her dress we ordered extra panels of the fabric along with a large size. So it could be altered to fit that bump of hers.

  • We went ahead and ordered a 16 because technically my biggest measurement would've been my hips and that would make my current size a 10 I tried the 8 on again today and I could hardly breath lol but the 16 added more length which will be needed if they raise my waist line up because it's perfect length now and we are wearing heels! My "girls" are already DD and so I can only imagine how late and in charge they will be in 4 months lol. Thank you ladies for all your suggestions and nice comments :)
  • I think you made the right call. The sizes are selected based on your measurements against a sizing chart, and they have to accommodate your largest measurement. Those ladies are pros, and are very used to pregnant bridesmaids. I think you're in good hands!
