Baby No. 2 and nervous because my toddler keeps kicking me in the stomach during diaper changes.

Hey I'm sure I sound like a paranoid person but I'm worried that my son keeps kicking me during diaper changes and clips me in the stomach. 1. Can he hurt the baby and 2. Any idea how to get him to stop? Baby isn't even born yet and big brother is beating on him/her...

  • Nah he isn't a ninja lol and I will sternly tell him no kicking mommy. But he is stubborn and it's like you have to say no a hundred times before he gets it

  • Allowing your toddler to kick you and act crazy is not one of those battles I would choose to ignore. And if you have to say something like "Stop kicking Mommy because that hurts and I don't like it" any more than twice is something you need to figure out. If he isn't listening to you know, why do you think he will when the baby gets here? He needs to understand how to control himself and it sounds like you need to understand how to be more firm with him. You will not hurt him, you will not harm him in any way. If you feel like you have no control over a situation like this, you are screwed when they get older.

This. We probably let a lot more things slide than we should (or at least lately with me being pregnant and tired), but hitting and kicking, even to the animals, will not be tolerated. We will give one warning and then after that, it's timeout.

  • My 13 month old does the same and timeout is not going to work with him. So I just keep repeating myself and pulling his foot away. He just can't control himself when he gets really excited or upset so for now new baby is safe and low. And hopefully as my son grows he'll start to get it more.
But I am definitely in the same boat and just trying to do the best for all of us.
