Again, I did not mean to derail the thread, I just feel compelled to keep responding to try and be understood. I am happy to discuss this in another thread or keep derailing if that suits everyone's purposes. But I am going to have to go shortly so when I leave it's not that I was run off, I just have an appointment.
We are so thankful that our second daughter, Lillian Elizabeth "Lily", was born healthy and happy on February 11, 2013. We love her to pieces.
We lost our first daughter, Hannah Grace on May 4, 2011. She was buried on May 14 during a beautiful service at my home church. We are grateful that if she could not be here with us, that she is healed and whole with the Lord. We look forward to the day when we will get to meet her. We love her so much.
Ooh Lord.
Motherofpearl was specifically saying that the links were offensive. That's why people keep saying read thelink.
Personally when something truly offends me, I voice it. I've yet to come across any member of this board who was like "ooh well".
Because I explain my feelings, and explain the offense I'm usually met with understanding.
I get that not everyone is religious, so I don't expect them to know what bothers me.
Fair enough, and that makes sense.

No, I didn't, I am talking about what Jesus said his followers would behave like, and what a lot of "Christians" look like in America. I think a lot of those in churches don't seem very Christlike to me based on the words of Jesus. There are tons of books written on this and why some are just leaving the church all together, which is sad. I am hardly the first person to make this observation.
Beyond that, if our country actually was a majority Christian nation, our entertainment would look a lot different. That is one indicator of what a nation values.
I bet you have a lot of fun, really inclusive opinions about minorities.
You don't know me at all. I bet you would be surprised.

My denomination question was legit, btw. Knowing the denomination helps me see where you are coming from in terms of salvation, etc. It's one of the main differences in various Protestant faiths.
Nobody is saying that Christians are crazy extremists who are going to destroy the country. There are times when I feel that Christianity does come under fire a bit here, but the use of "Jesus" doesn't qualify. The big thing to remember is that Christianity is still the majority religion here (edit: I mean the US not the board), and in the United States, people are not persecuted or discriminated against on a systemic basis for being Christians. In fact, most of our political leaders identify as Christian. So, even when people poke at Christianity a bit, it is not the same as poking at Islam.
All I will say on this is that I do not think Christianity is the majority religion in this country, not by a long shot. I think cultural Christianity is very prevelant and could even be considered a majority view, but that is not the same as the faith that is described in the New Testament.
So people who identify as Christian might not be Christian because they don't interpret the New Testament the same way you/true Christians do? Hmm.
Nope, not what I was saying.
Except you did.

Thank you for driving home the fact that you actually are saying that the majority of people who identify as Christian don't actually act like Christians and therefore you label them as "Christians" meaning that you don't really think they truly are Christians. Good job.
I am saying, for example, that the way that some who claim to be Christians treat, let's say, gay people, is not Christlike period and it is therefore valid to question exactly who they are following. Many people have left a church feeling judged and not loved which is basically the exact opposite of what should happen.

I attend a Methodist church currently.

Not every Christian interprets things the same way you do. And the bulk of the New Testament is the words of St. Paul, edited and selected at the Council of Nicaea by a bunch of dudes with an agenda. Contrary to what it sounds like you're saying, you don't have to embrace all of St. Paul's bullshit to be Christian.
STUCK IN THE BOX AGAIN.
I am actually not talking about Paul's letters. And the rest of this is just going to have to be a discussion for another day. I've got a cranky toddler on my hands with no clue why...yay. Have missed you on our BMB.

I honestly try to focus on the "main and plain" things for the most part because I think it can be so divisive to get focused on secondary issues, sometimes called "in-house debates" such as calvinism versus arminianism, etc. I think if we can all stay focused on what Jesus taught then the church as a whole would be a much more inviting place.

@ColeRose, you can take the lord's name in vain all you want, but I can't just sit here and let you slander 24 hours of A Christmas Story.
I am legit sad that as an adult with a family I can no longer sit and watch 24 hours of A Christmas Story all day on Christmas Eve anymore.
TTC since August 2011, Me = 40, DH = 38 Unexplained IF. Tried Clomid for 3 cycles. All BFNs. BFP 1/6/13. Chemical pregnancy.

I'm not going to read it but I am already pissed considering we have a Muslim on this board. Don't be insulting. I will not tag her into this shit.
Off topic, but I find it interesting that it's not ok to offend one religion, but I regularly see "Jesus" used around here in ways that are offensive, but have never seen that addressed. Now, I don't think we should offend anyone, but it would be nice if that mindset was shared more. Just an observation. ETA - haven't read the links, but they have nothing to do with my point.

True Islam is a religion of peace. But just like any religion there are crazy ones who take it too far. I mean look at Westboro baptist church. I think it's rather broad to say Islam isn't a religion of peace when many of the main points of the Quran stress peace and being devoted to Allah?

+1 fuck this hateful thread.
There is no reason to be ignorant and use such language. I wasn't rude.
I did confuse pp and op. Apologies.
ISIS is horrible, hateful and spreading. Don't kid yourselves. They need to be destroyed.
Yes. No one argued ISIS isn't those things. It's (they're) vile.
But ISIS is to Islam what Westboro is to Christianity. You didn't answer my question. Are you saying Islam isn't peaceful or ISIS singularly?

I think that Christianity is personal and no one can tell anyone else if they are a "Christian" Christian or not. That is ludicrous.
