28 weeks - both breech - any hope for a vaginal birth??

I am 28 weeks pregnant today and the ultrasound showed that both babies are breech as they were 4 weeks ago.  Anyone have any success stories for babies turning this late in the game for a vaginal birth?  This is very likely my only pregnancy and I would love to have them as natural as possible, but I am trying to prepare for the likelihood of a C-section as well.  Would love to hear any success stories from you!

  • My baby b has been transverse pretty much my entire pregnancy. I'm 36+3 today and found out at my ultrasound today that he is finally head down. You still have time : )

  • Lots of time! We saw baby B flip during our growth scan at 32 weeks. It hurt but was super cool! They still have plenty of time and room!

  • I think there's always hope.  Mine didn't change positions from about 22 weeks on though.

D & L are here at 34 weeks 4 days by vaginal and breech delivery on 11/19/2013
Two healthy boys weighing 4 lbs 15 ozs and 4 lbs 5 ozs.  Only 6 days in the NICU and getting bigger, stronger and cuter every day!
  • I'm 30 weeks this weekend and baby b has never been in the same position two weeks in a row (weekly ultrasounds) and baby a flipped to breech last week. They are constantly moving around in there. I'm just hoping for the best. Good luck!
  • Prenatal yoga is worth a try if you aren't doing it already!  There was a lady in my class who was able to get her singleton to flip and credited it to yoga, can't hurt!
  • Anything can happen but mine both flipped from head down to breech around 28/29w and stayed that way until my csxn at 35w. Hope yours flip to head down.
  • I'm pretty much in the same position as you. I'm 27 weeks today. Both babies have been breech until 2 weeks ago. Right now baby A is head down and baby B has been breech or transverse. Baby B is def my more active baby and likes to switch positions.

With baby A being head down I could have a chance at a vaginal birth which is def preferred. I'm still trying to be optimistic and hoping for a vag birth.

  • My babies both flipped a ton between 28 and 35 weeks. It wasn't until my 35 week appointment (yesterday) that we made the final delivery decision. They're both breech and we went ahead and scheduled the C. He said it was unlikely they'd flip again at this point. Every other previous appointment they told me it was too early to make the call. I'd say you've got time!
  • You have plenty of time OP! Mine were both transverse & breech at my 31w4d appointment. They just flipped to head down positions at 32w4d. I'm hoping they will stay but only time will tell! Even if baby b doesn't get into position & baby a does you still have a very good chance to deliver vaginally!

  • My boys were in a different position every time we had an ultrasound. They were flipping right up until I delivered at 36 and 5.
  • Heck yea, there's plenty of time. My B flipped around also at 36/5. Don't stress out :)

  • My baby A flipped from head down to breech at 34 wk, 2 days.  It was extremely painful, woke me up in the middle of the night, and I thought I was going into labor.  I'm also very petite with little torso. I ended up having them via c-section 2 days later.  Anything is possible!

  • We've been told they *can* change positions up until the very end, but of course, it's less likely as time goes by.  As pp said, I'm pretty short (5'3" on a good day lol) and my Baby A, who really determines the likelihood of vaginal birth, had been head down the whole pregnancy until week 32.  Now, neither are.  Hoping he switches back to head down but at 34 weeks now, I'm not quite as confident.  It may be a moot point, though, since they may need to come out earlier anyway due to pre-e and IUGR.
