What finger foods are your 9 month olds eating?

Just curious..DS isn't too keen on finger foods yet. I have been giving him some cheerios, mum mums, etc but he makes a weird face every time I put anything other than a puree in his mouth.  I was very slow to transition DD to solids, and I hope to be much quicker with DS.

Re: What finger foods are your 9 month olds eating?

  • I gave up on finding finger foods, and just started giving whatever we are having. So last night she had baked chicken, mashed potatoes, and green peas. I cut the food up into small pieces, but she will really eat just about anything now.

  • Loading the player...
  •  And now that she's got the pincer grasp down, I think it won't be long before she starts refusing purees altogether; she loves to feed herself.
L will smack the puree out of the spoon, and then try to pincer grasp it - haha!   She will eat them, but everything has to be hand-fed now.  She's eating mostly table foods now.  Her favorites are sweet potato fries, chicken, and scrambled eggs.
  • Mads eats everything with her fingers, very rarely do I feed her with a spoon. And the only purées she gets are the Gerber Organics pouches, and she feeds those to heraelf as well. She does not want help eating at all.

  • So since you're all feeding so many solids, for those of you that EBF before solids, how often are your LOs nursing? DS is a pudgy baby and he still nurses 7-8 times in a 24 hour period.  Even after introducing 3 solid purees a day, it didn't decrease the amount of times he nurses though now it's only 8-10 minutes. I plan to start decreasing it in the next month or so since I will probably switch to cow's milk at 12 months, but for now I'm still working on his night time and it's finally getting better so I am hesitant to take away any feedings.

  • I am so jealous, our child chokes on EVERYTHING that isn't puréed. Mashed potatoes are even too thick. So odd. I'm convinced he has an insane gag reflex. Anyone else in this boat?

I'm not exactly in that boat.  DS is getting a lot better some different textures, but I am very surprised to see so many responses about their kids eating so much since DS isn't even close to that yet.

  • We do lots of things these days. B seems pretty willing to try anything. We give her fruit cut in strips she can munch on. Same with veggies. She's also eating with us whenever it makes sense. Chicken, rice, potato, pasta, even bits of grilled cheese. Yesterday she munched on a cheese quesadilla. If she doesn't like something or has had enough she generally throws it on The floor in protest.
Can't figure out the signature thing, so here's the short, short version.....first daughter born on November 10, 2013. She was conceived through the magic of IVF after 2+ years of TTC.

I don't refuse a nursing session when we are together, but he just naturally seems to demand the boob less often. I'll count tomorrow, but I bet he will only nurse 6 times.

I did decrease the amounts in two of his daytime bottles so now he does less expressed milk during the day, which is glorious bc I only pump 2x at work now. Woot!

I replaced the 4 oz he dropped with a PM snack and some water throughout the day and at meals.

  • @kfran84 I did make all of those and they turned out great. A loves them. He doesn't like me to cut anything up. He holds it in his hand and takes bites like it's an apple.
  • I guess I'm luckier than I realized. She eats small pieces of whatever we eat as long as it's not fried or otherwise not a good food for her. But she also still accepts purées and yogurt from a spoon. She also is very good at scooping a purée or yogurt from her high hair tray to feed herself. It's pretty gross but it makes her so happy!
  • @Kfran84 I should add that I don't know how A would have liked the muffins, but I tasted the batter and it was good. I cut myself and contaminated them with blood so those had to be thrown away.
