February 2013 Moms

It's 2:30am...

And I think I'm done sleeping for the night, as I was just woken up by a cricket landing on my face!!! :-O

Also, last summer I made a similar post regarding a spiders, except that after crawling on my face, it moved on to DD's, which was MORE terrifying to me as a mother, even if it was a harmless species of spider.

My own mom said when I was little I would have horrible nightmares about bugs crawling on me and I'd wake up freaking out. This just proves that my childhood fears were not unfounded. :P

Re: It's 2:30am...

  • When I was younger my brother had lizards. He fed the crickets. His room was above mine and those stupid crickets would crawl out of the cage and into the vents, then fall right on my face. Every single night till I changed my room around. I would also find them everywhere, in the laundry room, bathrooms, my room ...... I hate them still with a passion. I totally understand the done sleeping for the night feeling.

Yeah, this was pretty much the noise I made when it happened.

@sjames2, gross. This is why the hedgehog I used to have never got crickets. Mealworms only for her!

*sigh* Nowi miss my hedgehog, she was the greatest.

  • There was a spider who used to hang out on our ceiling. He would move around to a new spot up there everyday. We lovingly referred to him as 'ceiling spider'. Then he was gone and we talked about how much we missed him, still mention him on occasion. It is very very likely that one of us swallowed ceiling spider while sleeping, I'm betting on me since I'm a mouth breather and DH is not.

If I knew of a mouse or bat in my house, I would be out of here so quickly and sleep in the car forever. Mice are so gross, they are part of the reason I wanted cats in the first place. Fortunately I've never seen one in our house, I'm not very confident in my cats mouse catching abilities.

  • @wineandcake‌ I love that you named the spider! I don't mind them as long as they aren't on my face. Or my baby's. ;-)

As someone who has kept a laundry list of rodents as pets (gerbils, hamsters, rats, a hedgehog and now two degus) I'd probably just try to per the mouse if we ha one of those!

Our friend has a pet chinchilla and there is (or at least was) a mouse that lived in his apartment and would sneak out and eat the food the chinchilla knocked out of it's cage onto the floor. He didn't try to catch the mouse because it meant he didn't have to clean up around the chinchilla's cage every day. ;-)

  • Oh and @luxannie‌ I'm so jealous you had a lizard! I've always wanted some sort of reptile, but my parents were strongly opposed to that idea, and while DH is thankfully a fan of rodents, he isn't really too into lizards. We had friends that had a bearded dragon though, and I always liked hanging out with him. He liked to snuggle and be petted on his little nose. :-)

  • Eww gross! I hate bugs. There's a cricket stuck in my wall somewhere v and it is driving me batty. Anyone know how long until the damn thing dies of old age? If it's not soon, I may go house crashers demo on this place!

  • My cousin used to have pet rats (domesticated - they are actually very good pets). Rats are very smart & can learn to open their cages. They lived w/ us for a while & one night when I was about 14 I woke up to 2 of his RATS in my bed!!

I had an African pigmy hedgehog named Holly when I was in college and it was fabulous. She was uncharacteristically cuddly for a hedgehog, so when I'd get home from classes I'd take her out of her cage (which was really a Rubbermaid container without a top, because hedgehogs have teeny tiny legs and aren't very good climbers) and we'd snuggle and take a nap together. She'd sleep in the crook of my arm and wake me up by licking my face. She (and all hedgehogs really) loved running around with a toilet paper tube over her head, which was always fun to watch. She was the greatest. :-)

Um, I love this story. And also Labyrinth :)

We are so thankful that our second daughter, Lillian Elizabeth "Lily", was born healthy and happy on February 11, 2013.  We love her to pieces.

We lost our first daughter, Hannah Grace on May 4, 2011.  She was buried on May 14 during a beautiful service at my home church. We are grateful that if she could not be here with us, that she is healed and whole with the Lord. We look forward to the day when we will get to meet her. We love her so much.
