OH! With regard to eating while in labor. Just eat things you'd be OK having to throw up, honestly. A doula I met with suggested homemade smoothies made with Greek yogurt (so you can get in some protein) as being easy to go down, or come up if necessary.
Also if you need a c-section, chances are that they'll give you something to "dry up" your stomach anyway, unless it's truly emergent/putting you under general anesthesia. It's suuuuuper sour citrus flavored. I got it even though it had been well more than 24 hours since I'd eaten anything and all I'd had was ice chips since then. Not eating didn't save me from that nastiness, so this time I'm bringing smoothies in reusable pouches that you can use for baby food.
That's Ryan Phillippee with a racket as he's making that face to Selma Blair so he can seduce her for a bet. My God, have none of you seen Cruel Intentions??

And re: car seat installation - our hospital's valets are all trained and anyone can just drive up and they will install/re-install/check your seats for you without an appointment. Check if your hospital has a similar service. If they don't, then they should be able to point you in the right direction, and local police/fire usually have appointments available with the few officers that they have trained. A lot of the time, if they aren't too busy, they will usually also show you the right way to do it, in case you ever need to do it yourself.
Every parent should know the right way to install their kid's car seat, IMO. You never know when you might need to be able to do it and won't have the luxury of making an appointment to have someone do it for you. Also, Britax FTW - those seats are wicked easy to install. I did DD's by myself a week or so ago at 8 mos pregnant.
Wait, your hospital has valets?!?!? I'm getting hosed...
Mine has valet too. During the hospitol tour the guide encouraged us to use it and NOT to tip them. If we do use it, I will make sure H tips. Just seems wrong otherwise.

I thought all hospitals had valets. My hospital where I will deliver is called Women & Infants, and literally only accepts those two categories of folks as patients, so they're pretty much just dealing with pregnant lady's and their newborns. But the valet is is at the front entrance and is for everyone - family that comes to visit, whoever. The emergency/admitting entrance is separate, and as I'm thinking about it, I don't think they valet over there.
But when DH had his last surgery, I left the car with the valet at that hospital when we got there. And the office center part of that hospital where his orthopedist's office is has a handicap valet, which is also really convenient now that DH has a hanidcap tag.
My Graco just shows the seatbelt goes through the channel in the base and thats it. I don't understand why its still so wiggly.
There are steps to make the seat belt "lock" or you have to use a metal clip of some sort to make it lock into place. I know I have one of those metal locking clips attached to the back side of DS's car seat but I don't use it. Maybe that's why?
And it can wiggle a little...
I just watched a youtube video. Im gonna run out to the parking lot at work and fiddle with it.
Doods: Same brand for car seat and seat protector is a-ok.
I don't know if they make one for ours (Graco). I also don't know if I even care enough to get one. I did want a waterproof protector that goes IN the car seat, and didn't get that either (it was the wrong brand, too). Basically, I gave up and decided I didn't need shit.
I'm dying to put mine in but I'm afraid it will make me more impatient. I'm trying to wait a little longer...
We are going to install ours next week! We registered for some seat protectors for our cars and I was waiting to see if someone would purchase them as a shower gift...which they did! Our last shower is on Sunday so once we get those we are totally installing the car seat bases! I'm super nervous about pre-term labor since I was born at 34 weeks and my brother was born at 35 weeks...I'm hoping it isn't genetic!
I was going to get those, but it's all over the internet recommending to NOT use seat protectors or anything that doesn't come with your car seat. So, I got scared and didn't get them.
Huh?! Why not? I have one because I have leather seats. I dont see how it would be detrimental?
We plan to get one for H's car because he has leather seats. It's the Brica one at Target & BRU.
My DH's car also has leather seats. I honestly never gave any thought to it. Are the covers recommended to protect the leather? What is the supposed danger in using them? And if we don't use one, will his seats get ruined?
I think the seat protectors are pointless honestly. We've had an infant seat with a base and now a convertible car seat in 3 different cars with leather seats and nothing has been damaged. If anything, I would think those would protect from spills if a bottle or sippy cup went flying but I don't see how a car seat would do any damage.
I was an idiot and was thinking the base, digging into the seat. So that's totally "off base"?
I can see why someone would be worried about that but from what I've experienced, the seat went right back to normal when the seat and/or base was removed and left no damage at all. The ONLY concern I could see with seat protectors is that MAYBE the seat or base would slide around a tiny bit and not be as secure but I'm sure they make them with that in mind. I personally think it's one of those extra items that aren't necessary...like a wipe warmer.
Someone got me one of those at our shower, and out loud when I opened it I said, thanks for this. We were just going to let the baby realize life is hard right from the start, but thanks to you, she will now be a pansy.

Guess how much of the movie I *actually* watched.

Our hospital has a valet! this is great - totally going to check with them
HAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAaa.aaahaaahaa.......
I'm lucky my hospital has beds.
Seriously, I asked if they would help, and the lady said "we don't know how to do the carseats, we just make sure you have one and we know if the baby is in the carrier correctly. If you want to make sure the seat is correct, you'll have to go somewhere...else...."

Ok guise. My carseat was so wiggly because I hadn't tightened the shoulder strap of the seatbelt. Now it moves about an inch in any direction. Feeling better!

We have valets also, but it's $25.00 for the first hour of parking and goes up from there. ( At my old hospital all parking was valet and free.

My SO is open to relocating after grad school in the future. My dreams of home ownership may be deferred which means yay to being able to save longer, but damn cause this kid will only need more stuff and my current spot is limited...

Whoa! $25?? Our valet parking is $10 for the whole day!
And ours is free, but only available at certain entrances, like I said. I tip them if I have the cash on hand, but not always.
When I park in the regular lots, my MIL gives me free parking cards because she works in one of the blood labs at one of the hospitals. And thank God for that, because I would've racked up a second mortgage visiting DH every effing day if I actually had to be paying for parking there. It's like a giant complex of three (or maybe four?) hospitals with all of the attached medial office buildings and surgical and special buildings and all of that. I haven't been valeting when I've been visiting DH this week because the part of the hospital he's in, it would be a longer walk from the closest valet entrance to him than from a regular lot to him. But it is uphill, which is exhausting.
Quicky etiquette question: co-workers threw me a shower today and I received one large, generous gift from "everyone." Usually, for parties like this, they take up an optional collection and people can pitch as much, or as little, or nothing at all, as they want. But everyone signs the card. General thank you note to the whole office or individual ones?
I received a group gift at my last shower. I sent individual thank you's.
Has anyone else noticed @Heartwood0519 's absence? For weeks now.
This crossed my mind when the whole Jalopy thing was going down and others were bringing up regs that weren't around anymore. I wonder who else is MIA?
@MrsBabe614 I stalked her profile, and it says she last posted on August 29th saying she was really swamped with work. So maybe that's why she's not around so much?

@Starla487 - DH's work did this (one large gift they all pitched in on for us) I am going to bake some goodies and take them to his work in the next couple of weeks with a little thank you sign. I thought this would be a nice little thank you to show them we appreciate the wonderful gift.

Yes, I've been wondering was she was on the diabetes check-ins. I hope she's ok.
She popped in on a Random thread and said things were crazy at work, I believe. That was before Labor Day.
Ok- I started to think well shit maybe she felt attacked when everyone was telling her that her husband needed to be put in his place/kicked in the nuts. I feel better then!
DH emailed me today and said that he was sad we never do anything together anymore. I feel bad, we really do stay home a lot right now because of the baby coming, I am too tired to go out and do things and I want to save money right now. On top of that, I would rather spend Friday night at home making a meal with him and watching a movie than anything else. He is not satisfied with this. I feel bad, I just don't know what else to do right now!

I did, I suggested dinner and a movie or something. He just said that we would talk about it later when we were both home from work... We have had this conversation several times before and then it seems like we still do nothing. We seem to fall into the same rut. I am at the point where I think I need to make him feel like his my priority right now before this baby comes, and I don't know why it seems so hard to do that right now.

because being pregnant is hard yo ;-) If he wants you to do those things more that means he should also make that effort! I'm always telling DH you get what you give when he has some complaint like that. I understand what you're saying, it is a hard balance.

I'm kinda in the opposite boat right now. I really want to go out to dinner. So I can put on some makeup, do my hair and not wear scrubs or sweat pants for once. I just need to get out! But DH's job is so busy right now that all he wants to do is order take out and watch TV. I sympathize with him being tired and I know there have been plenty of times during this pregnancy that I haven't felt like going out but I have to get out of this house!
Guys, I hate DH's job SO MUCH. How can I be a supportive wife? I don't even know. Now he will only be home for 10 days in September, home for maybe 3 weeks in October, and then leaves again the first or second week of November.
Also, I'm stressing about daycare. I want to quit my job and stay at home with the baby.

Not to pry. But I have noticed my DH normally means things in the bedroom. This is just my experience with my DH. You guys might be in a different boat behind closed doors then us. But my DH will never come out and say it but he loves to beat around the bush saying things like he misses me. Or we never have time together. He is a gentlemen about it.
