@Finnaroo Any word from your mom yet?

I ended up ordering those GD tuning forks. And Schichida Method math cards. I'm afraid my living room is going to look even more like a preschool. I'm willing to give it a chance but I don't think I want to put forward this Herculean effort to get the kid to read by the time he's 3.

@fitmama418 Polish immigrants over here too.  :-h
  • After a conversation with one of my sister's this morning, I really feel like she needs a POA for medical and financial purposes, but I don't think she would willingly sign a POA. I don't want to go into all the details, right now, but I'm having all the feels about her today.

I know you said you don't want to talk about it, but PM me if you like. My sister has SLE with organ involvement and it took some doing but we established an Advanced Medical Directive and life insurance. Next step will probably be POA.
  • @Finnaroo‌ that is great news!!!

Just got off phone with my mom. It's not cancer!!!!

She's got a papilloma and will need surgery in both boobs, plus the papilloma now classifies her as high risk, but as of right now, she does not have cancer. I am elated!

Thank you all for the support! It really meant a lot to know that I had N13's T&P.

So, so, so happy for this news! Woohoo!!!!

I read at three. Phonics. And I haven't been active in the daily threads, so I missed why your buying tuning forks and teaching A how to read at this stage? We were given Your Baby Can Read, but I've heard it's not effective. The company is out of business. I don't take that as a good sign.
DH is getting kind of of Tiger Parent all of a sudden. I had the same opinion of YBCR.
  • So I win MOTY today.  We have one of those pressure mounted baby gates between our dining room and living room and Luke pulls on it all the time.  Well apparently he's pulled enough that it came loose and today it flew back and landed on him, sending him tumbling onto the carpet.  He cried a little but seemed fine.  I called the Dr. just to see what to be on the lookout for (because as I'm sure you all know I am paranoid about the kids getting hurt) and even the nurse  agreed he seems fine.

Well we just got back from getting shoes for him and going to find a wall mountable baby gate that will fit that opening (no luck) and I notice that Luke bit a big whole in his tongue when he fell.  Poor baby.  I feel so bad.
  • @ggandlee thank you so much :). Feel free to give me any and all advice. I will gladly take it. My dh said the same thing and not to worry I just felt bad for not noticing it earlier when I first checked him out.
  • @CFox815‌ thanks :) no not natural, that is quickly curled this morning while Layla tried to grab the cord, and then in and out of a balled up low pony tail all day.

  • @trtlcrzy Haha so does my DH.

@joelies As do I. Bleh. I wish I was one of those people that could just walk up to them and kill them with a shoe, but I'm not. Too many creepy feels.

It was a 30 day challenge with my gym. Strict paleo, so no grains, legumes, dairy, processed food, etc. We got our measurements and weight taken, and at the end of the 30 days whoever looses the most weight or percentage (not sure which) wins a $200 gift card. Weigh in is tomorrow, followed by a WOD. =]

@Mommyxtwo1113 With C's fever condition, will she ever grow out of it? How are you able to tell if it's a fever due to infection or just a fever?
  • edited September 2014
@cagoldi‌ they say most kids outgrow it by 5. She's had it since 9 mos. We go in for bloodwork every time to determine what's going on. :-/

Eta they were talking about taking her tonsils out last time.

Is it a Whole 30? How do you feel? Good luck!!
We didn't do it specifically as Whole 30. They handed us packets on what we could/couldn't eat, and I did a lot of research myself online. I also signed up with e-meals and got on their paleo plan. I feel pretty good! I noticed I have a lot more energy than I used to, and I'm not craving the crap that I used to crave all the time. I've lost 8 lbs! I'm going to try to keep up eating like this for the most part, but not as strict. And thanks!

  • At the Dr for bloodwork for DD. Got like 2 hours of sleep. Happy weekend

Poor dd and poor you. ) : which outcome is better? A fever because of something or because of her condition? I've never heard of that before. It sounds frustrating? I don't know even know. I can't imagine.

@PeachsMama‌ When I was pregnant with DD my placenta started to fail and I was on bedrest for a while and they were worried about DD making it at all.  It was really scary.  When she was born the pediatrician said that other than the jaundice nothing was wrong with her.   Well, turns out her immune system sucks and they think it's because of the issues I had when I was pregnant with her.  She's been through so many tests I cannot even list them all.  She's had every blood draw you can think of and she has no immune system compromising diseases.  (yay!!!)

She has kidney reflux and that resulted in a couple UTIs and lots of visits to the urologist and lots of catheters... :(

The doctors kept trying to fit her fevers into all of these issues.  Like for the first 18 mos of her life it was "oh kids just get sick a lot, it's because of daycare" or "she's teething, it's the shots, her ears" but she was consistently running a fever every 21-30 days.  Every.month.  I started tracking them at 9 mos and by her 2 yr appt the doctor was doing a bunch of research as well.

The only thing they can come up with is Periodic Fever Syndrome.  For some reason the kid just runs fevers in a cycle.  They get really scary sometimes, she's had febrile seizures and been hospitalized a few times. I've become really good at catching it early though and keeping her cool.  Lots of cold wash cloths in the right places on the worst nights.

No one ever catches anything from her.  She never tests positive for strep or flu or anything.  Her cbc comes back normal usually.  It's exhausting and it worries me to think that there may be some really awful underlying cause, but she's been tested for everything so I try not to worry.

eta: sometimes she gets actual sicknesses like she has had strep a few times and roseola but not during her fever periods.
  • @Mommyxtwo1113‌ That is terrible, how frustrating. My youngest sister had a lot of mystery illness like that and was finally diagnosed with SLE when she was 17. Can they test for Lupus that young?
  • @cagoldi she's already been tested for it. Not sure if they will have to do retests or not later down the road.
  • @cagoldi she had at least two autoimmune panels done in the last year alone. She's such a trooper though.
