Oh, and another tid bit about the gender reveal party. I saw on FB that the nephew (of mom to be) posted, "Sorry, I won't be able to make it, my team has a game tomorrow." And she responded with "Yeah, your mom told me...well hopefully you win the game so it will actually be worth missing our party for.."
WTAF? Who says that to a 12 yr old?? She pisses me off.
Okay okay!! it's hard to leave. It's hard NOT to like you guys. I can't help it. Most of you are super intelligent and have sarcasm down to an art. It's super interesting to me, to see the realtionships you have made threw the internet. Maybe this is a confession but whatever's. I will just lurk. I find that I don't fit in all most any where any more. Not sure why I was suprised this time.
I'm dying to put mine in but I'm afraid it will make me more impatient. I'm trying to wait a little longer...
We are going to install ours next week! We registered for some seat protectors for our cars and I was waiting to see if someone would purchase them as a shower gift...which they did! Our last shower is on Sunday so once we get those we are totally installing the car seat bases! I'm super nervous about pre-term labor since I was born at 34 weeks and my brother was born at 35 weeks...I'm hoping it isn't genetic!
I was going to get those, but it's all over the internet recommending to NOT use seat protectors or anything that doesn't come with your car seat. So, I got scared and didn't get them.
Huh?! Why not? I have one because I have leather seats. I dont see how it would be detrimental?
We plan to get one for H's car because he has leather seats. It's the Brica one at Target & BRU.
My DH's car also has leather seats. I honestly never gave any thought to it. Are the covers recommended to protect the leather? What is the supposed danger in using them? And if we don't use one, will his seats get ruined?
I think the seat protectors are pointless honestly. We've had an infant seat with a base and now a convertible car seat in 3 different cars with leather seats and nothing has been damaged. If anything, I would think those would protect from spills if a bottle or sippy cup went flying but I don't see how a car seat would do any damage.
I was an idiot and was thinking the base, digging into the seat. So that's totally "off base"?

My leather is black and it scuffs easily. With the plastic base I just wanted to avoid scuffage.

I can see why someone would be worried about that but from what I've experienced, the seat went right back to normal when the seat and/or base was removed and left no damage at all. The ONLY concern I could see with seat protectors is that MAYBE the seat or base would slide around a tiny bit and not be as secure but I'm sure they make them with that in mind. I personally think it's one of those extra items that aren't necessary...like a wipe warmer.
NOTED! I won't be getting another one of those... Someone gave me a wipe warmer. I still want to put it in the bathroom with adult wipes. I feel like that's where it will be MOST appreciated!

You have to admit that you brought most of this on yourself. You see that right? You cannot flip out and be awful one day, then say shit like this to try and make people feel bad the next day. THIS IS THE PROBLEM.
Shhh I'm just gonna lurk. Maybe I am bipolar , my DH swears I am. I admit my faults.
So my shower is next Sunday and it's going to end up being pretty small. My mom has received quite a few "no" RSVPs. I was definitely cool with that, because I'd prefer it just to be close friends and family anyway. But just now one of my very best friends texted me and asked if I'd be mad if she can't make it to my shower. She just started a waitressing job this week so I assume she might be on the schedule for next Sunday. I don't know how to respond, but yeah, I won't be happy if she misses it for a Sunday afternoon serving shift. I mean, my own sister will be missing it because she'll be out of the country for 3 months. I just feel like it's another important person who should be there but now won't be. I don't want to be dramatic over this, but it kind of sucks.
I'm dying to put mine in but I'm afraid it will make me more impatient. I'm trying to wait a little longer...

My carseat is buckled in with the base and it moves around. Did I do something wrong? Should the base not be movable? Gah I'm bad at this parenting thing already! (
I left my wallet at home. I thought I lucked out for lunch today, because I had my payment info saved on the jimmy johns website. But it didn't save my card security code, which I don't remember. Sad trombone.
Did your hospital give you any information on places where you can have them how you installed the car seat? That's my plan - our hospital gave us a list of places that will do free car seat inspections if you just call them. I know it will put my mind at ease a lot!
So maybe more of a FFFC but on the topic of lice. I didn't get lice until I was in the 9th freaking grade. I remember sitting in my English class and found one. It was one of the worst moments of my high school world.
I had much younger brothers to thank for that. Plus my hair was almost down to my butt so that was a real joy. It took several treatments to get rid of them and to this day I am completely paranoid about it.
If it every happens again I am shaving my head and burning all my things. (ok maybe not but the urge will be there)
I want to smack my neighbor, every time we go outside to play with our kids she lets her little yapper out and it stands at the fence and barks forever, I love dogs of all sizes but this one I want to boot
I'm purchasing items for my hospitol bag this morning. Should I get slippers? I know someone said flip flops for the shower, but I'm wondering if I should take any slippers at all.
I'm bringing those super plush fuzzy socks with a bit of grip on the bottom. This way I can wear them in bed and while shuffling about. Plus I don't own slippers
Wow, I feel pretty clueless about car seat installation now. So is it supposed to go in middle backseat, then? I always assumed it would be installed in the back passenger-side seat... Halp.

The safest spot for any child is in the seat with the best install. But ideally, you want the middle seat.
RE: seat protectors - I agree that the ones that go under your car seat to protect your seats from the car seat are unnecessary. HOWEVER, when you have a forward-facing toddler, I would consider one of the ones that goes on the back of the front seat to protect it from dirty sneakers being propped up on there. DIfferent kind of seat protector, but more useful, IMO.
Ladies PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!! Read your car's manual AND the car seat manual before installing your car seat! Also, check out these websites (there are more but these were the first two I used with DD). Get it inspected by a certified inspector (you can Google this to find one close).
The safest place is in the middle of the backseat but not all cars have a backseat that is compatible with this. DH Had a truck and the middle was too short to safely hold the seat. So we put DD behind the passenger. Now, with two seats in the back, the baby will be behind the driver in both cars.
This is me at work today.. I seemed to have drawn the short straw to get every awful patient in the building, and if they are not awful, their family is beyond awful.. my co workers are beyond unhelpful, and I have 5 hours to go in my shift and at least that much work/charting to complete. We ordered pizza hut for lunch and of course they messed up the pregnant lady's order ONLY.. not to mention ive had cramps off and on all day and my heart rate has been in the hundreds all day- I can feel it racing ughhhhhhhh
And re: car seat installation - our hospital's valets are all trained and anyone can just drive up and they will install/re-install/check your seats for you without an appointment. Check if your hospital has a similar service. If they don't, then they should be able to point you in the right direction, and local police/fire usually have appointments available with the few officers that they have trained. A lot of the time, if they aren't too busy, they will usually also show you the right way to do it, in case you ever need to do it yourself.
Every parent should know the right way to install their kid's car seat, IMO. You never know when you might need to be able to do it and won't have the luxury of making an appointment to have someone do it for you. Also, Britax FTW - those seats are wicked easy to install. I did DD's by myself a week or so ago at 8 mos pregnant.

Wait, your hospital has valets?!?!? I'm getting hosed...

Our hospital has a valet! this is great - totally going to check with them
We read my car manual and it said not to install in the middle (no explanation) so then I referred to the Lucie's List article that said if you can't do middle then do driver side because you are supposed to instinctively protect that side since it is your side as well. Not going to be very convienat when I have a fussy baby in the back but that is what I went with.
For anyone who has a Britax seat, you get the best, tightest install on the base if you're able to stick a knee into it. That's what my husband did and got it in really well. The car seat inspection person was pretty impressed...and of course he came home and told me about his little victory.
@Cantisa - your post saying congrats to the new mods was nice...until I scrolled down an inch or so and saw Ryan Phillippe being lascivious with a champagne bottle. Then it became about 381 sorts of weird.
Re seat protectors: I have black leather in my car without protectors and no damage (I checked after we took out the infant seat and put in the convertible seat).
Re: Friday Randoms
I got decent sleep, but I've managed to hold my bladder throughout the night, and it hurts so bad when I wake up...but sleep.
I will also have a car seat in my car soon, and I know I won't be able to stop staring at it!

Something else to remember....the chest clip goes up by baby's armpits...not over the tummy.
