Prenatals

What are you guys taking? I took Vitafol starting about 3 mos before I ever got pregnant with DS when I knew we were trying. This time was sort of NTNP so I bought prenatal one a days in the middle of august and have been taking them ever since. May switch back to Vitafol once I go to my OB and confirm everything...but does it really matter? Are you guys doing Rx or OTC?

  • Costco Kirkland brand
  • Loading the player...
  • Citranatal harmony, it is one of the prescription prenatals. I took it last time and it never made me sick or gag when swallowing. Some are serious horse pills!

  • I take the Rainbow Light prenatals. They are the only ones that don't upset my stomach. I also take a DHA supplement.

It doesn't make a difference whether it is OTC or Rx. IMO, the only reason to take Rx is if your insurance makes it cheaper than OTC (mine never did).

  • I take Target brand chewables.  Last pregnancy I had the pill and I forgot to take them a bunch because I never had water around.  Chewables seem easier to remember for me.  Although I think I forgot this morning...
  • I'm taking Spring Valley (? sold at Walmart) prenatal vitamin and DHA supplement.  I took it with DS and never stopped taking them since I was BFing and then knew we'd be TTC soon.

I read something the other day that actually recommended gummy vitamins.  It had something to do with your body only absorbing 25% of the hard pill but since the gummy is easier to digest, you get more.  Does anyone know if this is legit?  I've never bought gummy vitamins because they just seem like cheating to me, lol.

  • I'm taking Rainbow Light. And also a fish oil supplement for DHA. I think when I'm out if the rainbow lights I'm going to switch to the gummies. Swallowing the pills has been hard on my stomach.

  • Vitafusion gummies..because I'm 5.
I also use the vitafusion.  They are one of the few that don't upset my stomach and I don't need to make sure I eat before I take them.

  • I also take Nature Made with DHA.  I've been taking them for the last year or so and they have been great so far.  I always eat before taking them, so I've never had any stomach issues with them,

the thing about gummies is they usually don't contain iron though

Mine are AV Kare prenatal plus - they are prescription and I get them free on base (DH is retired USMC)

  • Nature Made , made me sick. I now take a gummie
  • I take Honest Co. Prenatals and DHA . It's nice because they automatically send them to you each month and they taste like vanilla :)
  • haha I also take the Vitafusion gummies. Only way I can get myself to take them daily!!

I have the extra Calcium gummies and they kind of gross me out so they don't get taken as frequently!

  • I was taking Rainbow Light pre-pregnancy, as I'm still nursing my DD, so I'll likely just get a new bottle of those when they run out.  I plan on starting a DHA supplement as well, though. Not sure which brand to go for.

  • I just happen to picked up a new bottle at a local organic store today. I was on New Chapter, all good but getting tired of swallow 3 hard pills everyday. It's also not cheap: 61 day supply for about $60 online. I got rainbow light today and some dha as well :D
  • Target Up & Up brand OTC
  • I'm using Vitafusion Gummies with DHA and Folic Acid
  • I have been taking many different kind because the OB gave me a billion samples before we got pregnant. But I bought natures bounty your life multi because they were buy one get one free at Kroger. 4 months supply for $13 not bad

  • I take Nature Made with DHA and as long as I take them with a meal they don't have any ill effects. The only ill effect they ever had, though, was just making me burp haha.

  • I take two Flintstones Complete chewables every day. My OB recemmended that I take those instead of the gummies so I would also get my iron.

  • OTC Nature Made Prenatal Multi + DHA ...btw it has 27mg of Iron. It is a horse pill though.

    imageimageimage

  • I used to take a multi for women that had enough folic acid in it then took fish oils as well and a vitamin D, but that came to be too many big pills to take. Now I take Nature Made Prenatal with DHA plus my vitamin D so now only 2 pills vs. 4. I also take these after a meal because I used to take first thing in AM and would get nauseas.
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • I take Prenatal One by Rainbow Light and supplement with more vitamin D. I also take a baby aspirin six days a week because I've had blood clots in the past.

The Rainbow Light is a horse pill, and the B-vitamins are derived from yeast, producing that lovely aroma :p so I don't know if that will survive once/if nausea kicks in. Good to know about the chewable Flinstones as a option!
  • I'm also using Vitafusion Gummies with DHA and folic acid
  • I use CVS brand gummies with DHA and folic acid (cheaper than vita fusion but comparable in what they contain). They are better tasting than the Target brand gummies IMO and the texture is better. Also, they don't make my stomach hurt.
  • @katnhiding‌ does the slow fe iron tend to do better on your stomach? I'm going to ask my doc if I need to add that with my vita fusion.
