Alex is just going to sleep after his first wake up. I am debating going downstairs to watch the last episode of Downton Abbey Season 4. It was due back at the library yesterday :-S
Feli had her 12 month well visit yesterday. Pedi asked me if she's talking yet, I said no. Upon telling this to my mom, she swatted me. Apparently I am horribly tone-deaf when it comes to my kid talking. My mom says she has been having whole conversations with her.
To me, they sound like this:
"so what animal is that?"
"daaaaaa"
"and this one?"
"kooooo"
"can you bring me the rings?"
"iiiiiii"
"do you want to go faster?"
"takataka"
So. To my ears, those are baby sounds she makes. My mother insists they're her version of words, i.e. "lamb", "dog" and "ring" (and then the general sound when she's happy).
I still think a large part of my mom's conviction is because of rose-colored granny glasses. But she did manage to raise (and communicate with) two kids. So maybe she's not all wrong.
I am up at 230 for no good reason. Maybe to say hi to you guys >- I do have a stupid webinar on excel and ending the day with ripping my body hair out by the follicle with hot wax. Hope sick babies feel better soon and we all have drinks and nookie this weekend
@amparo1981, sounds like baby talk to me. Especially if she makes the same sound repeatedly when you ask the same question.
E was bit at DC yesterday. Is it wrong that I was relieved that she was the bitee and not the biter? All day Wednesday she kept trying to bite DH and I. I told him that I really hope that she doesn't bite anyone at DC bc they won't stand for it.
Happy Friday!! Poor Scarlett hasn't been feeling well and sleeping terribly. Good thing we have only a few plans this weekend so hopefully can catch up on sleep and spending time together.
@rondokye I know exactly what you mean about the biting. Both of my girls were biters and the bitee several times and it was much worse having the biter.
@rondokye I feel the same way regarding my sweet baby who loves to bite. I almost feel relieved when he isn't the one biting, and then I feel bad. But even if E does bite at DC, they'll still love her. Toddlers just gonna toddler and that includes biting.
Things I never thought I'd say that I have now said, "say bye bye to the vacuum. I promise it will still be here when you get home." I think we might be buying a toy vacuum this weekend.
Has anyone had success "teaching" their kid to go down drowsy but awake, or is it one of those things they have to start doing on their own?
Also has anyone gotten LO over a daddy strike? I thought it was a fluke but it has been going on all summer. C loves to play with daddy, more than me, but won't let him near at bedtime or MOTN.
We have 6 weeks or less and this sleep situation is gonna make me have a panic attack.

I'd love to say I taught her drowsy but awake.
For nap time, she definitely taught it to herself, for bedtime I helped her with it. I think. What we do is bathtime+bottle+reading a book with dimmed lights and soft voice until she turns her head away. Then I pick her up, put her in her crib, turn off the light.....
.....and proceed to duck down and wait, not moving a muscle, in total darkness, until I hear her sleep-breathe. Usually not more than 5 minutes.
Then I tiptoe out.
Not elegant. I still count it as "drowsy but awake", though.
So, for the BTDT people out there, are our LO's going to keep hats on this winter?
My plan is to out him in layers so thick that his arms can't move to his head and mittens so thick his hands don't work. His hat will be the least of his worries.
Yesterday at the grocery store, the bagger guy would not.stop.talking. He is always chatty and the Midwestern nice girl in me tries to respond at least politely. But this was ooc. Especially when he asks if I "have a baby" and then goes onto 1. Tell me how labor feels; 2. Say he taught his daughter to say daddy at three months; 3. Repeat the stories and talk over me when I try to respond.
The 3 months is so farfetched but then maybe the child was just ready to hear a voice other than his endlessly.
@BetsyD2010 I had that dream on Sunday night. It was awful. It took everything in me not to be mad at him the next day. Luckily for him, he was extra ordinarily nice that day.
@haddocky hats are not optional here in the winter. He won't wear a ball cap right now, so everything I make will have ear flaps and strings or maybe even cowl/balaclava style. He LOVES being outside so I know it will be a battle.
Finally a day off! The last six days at work were crazy and weird and even though I go back tomorrow, I'm happy for the break today. George is currently sitting at his table reading a kitten book. :x
I had Aub's 1 year photos taken August 10th, and the photographer still hasn't contacted me to say they're ready. Not even a sneak peek. How do I approach without seeming like a pain in the ass? :!!
I would just be a pain in the ass. I would have expected a sneak peak by now! If life has gotten in their way, they should have contacted you to let you know the delay.
Liam decided to wake us up before daddy's alarm at 550am. He is currently watching his daddy shave for work. My webinar isn't until 8am I wanted to sleep longer (
We are watching Usher perform on the Today Show and every few minutes L stops what she's doing, turns to the TV, and claps. I approve.
I left Giles in the TV room with Curious George so I could get dressed. When I came back in he had grabbed the remote and changed the channel to Usher and was dancing. Apparently a popular choice among toddlers.
Usher and Timbaland need to make a song together. Giles will pee his pants!!
@byjove3 We did just move and that's when we found out that a queen won't fit up our stairs; just the full. Well this full-size mattress is like 15 years old and dips in the middle. It sucks. Bad.
But our bedroom is pretty small--Capitol Hill rowhouse. We also downsized on this move to save more to buy a place next year.
I had wanted to wait to buy a new bed until we moved, but I'm not sure if DH can wait that long.
I'm actually going to measure and see what a double twin (pseudo-king) would mean in terms of space.
As a quick fix, you can put a regular pillow under the middle of your mattress. My single-lady full size mattress lasted ages that way.
@cshum24, I agree with PP. I don't think an email saying "hey, just wanted to check in to see when we can expect our pictures" is being a pain in the ass at all. Especially if she told you 2 weeks. I hope you get to see some pics soon!
@econmama - boo to a uncomfortable bed and to mice. Yuck!
Sending positive vibes for the appointment today @mystererae!
I mentioned in a spam thread 2 weeks ago that my cat died. I was going through my iPhone this morning and I came across this video I took of her chasing her own shadow and meowing. I played it while my dog happened to be sitting nearby. When my cat meowed on the video my dog jumped up and started running around all excited looking for her. ( I think she misses her!
So, for the BTDT people out there, are our LO's going to keep hats on this winter?
Si tries to rip hats off, but as soon as he figures out it's tied on he leaves it alone. So I'd suggest a hat that ties or Velcro's under the chin. Better then a bunch of hats you can't use.

@econmama When we lived in our 900 sq foot Baltimore City rowhouse, we had to take the mattress and box spring through the second floor bathroom window because they would not squeeze up our tiny spiral staircase. We also invested in a Queen split boxspring.

Luke has suddenly fallen in love with the vacuum too. It's so weird. He used to be terrified of it - he would have a meltdown every time I turned it on. Now he has a meltdown when I put it back in the closet.
He is also a biter Mostly mom. What does DC do in response to biting? I've been putting him down whenever he bites but Idk if it's doing any good. He just cries.

This kid may not have a lot of bowel, but he has plenty of guts! DS born at 34 weeks with (surprise!) gastroschisis turned short bowel syndrome. 131 days in the NICU, 7 trips to the OR, G-button, daily TPN....
We are impatiently awaiting the day we can say goodbye to his girlfriend Ivy for good.

They tell him no biting. Really, there isn't much you can do at this age, according to pretty much everything I've read and seen. I would say no biting and put him down. Occasionally, they'll say no biting and put him in his pack and play for a minute. Or they'll just pick him up and remove him from the situation for a minute or two. But maybe he bites so that he gets removed from the situation. It's so hard to know.
My kid doesn't bite, except for my toes. I'll be sitting on the couch and he'll walk up and chomp down on my big toe. Weirdo.
