PPD check-in?

Did we have one of these this week? I can't find it. I don't even know how to start one.

I finally hit my limit with DD's latest growth spurt and had to start Wellbutrin. Meh. I'm not happy about it, but obviously BF is still a major trigger for me so I need to get the crazies under control.

How's everybody else doing this week?

Good for you for taking that step to help yourself feel better. This week was one of the hardest ones yet for me. We learned last week that our son needs to have brain surgery within the next couple months. My husband got laid off, so our insurance ran out as of Sept. 1. Trying to figure out how we're going to pay for this surgery is absolutely insane. I looked into COBRA and "Affordable Healthcare" but they are both SO expensive. Since my husband gets a severance package, we have to include that amount in our total income. But he only gets that for a few more weeks. Plus, I was working a full-time job at the beginning of the year, but now I'm part time. So that shifts our total income too.

I ended up signing us up for something, and just hoping that we can somehow make it work. I'm scared to death for the surgery, and don't think I will be "normal" until after it is all done and he is ok.

In the meantime, I apologize in advance for being super grouchy. Because I will be.

@kc83 - thank you! I've heard of that site before (and actually donated on it too!) but I'm not sure I'm comfortable with that just yet. Honestly, I'm not sure why, but I feel really embarrassed by the whole situation. I know it's nothing we did wrong. We both worked, and situations changed. But I don't know that I'm ready to ask people to help pay for something that I feel like WE should be able to provide for our little guy. Does that make any sense?

But it does help me to feel a little bit better having your thoughts and prayers! We really appreciate them!

I feel bad that everyone is having a rough week and I'm telling you all that I'm doing well. I am doing really well and I almost can't believe it. I thought I was doing good before, but I'm even better now. It's amazing and I'm so thankful, but I feel really badly that you guys aren't doing better.
I'm still going to my support group and seeing my psychologist. I don't want to assume I'm better and stop it all cold Turkey. Honestly, I enjoy going to both not only for PPD, but also in general.

My husband mentioned "I think you're back" the other day and I just said "shhhh! We aren't talking about it!" I'm so afraid to jinx it or something!

I'm doing much better. I stayed with my parents for a week and my mom helped me switch dd over to her pnp. Now she sleeps all night and naps in it! It's a true blessing. I switched over to formula so I could get on medication. No ragrets! I'm eager to start feeling like myself again and I think it's already helping. Bad news is, my insurance dropped so the medication is 124 GENERIC!!!!!! I have a ton of Rx discount cards and have been looking for coupons on the medication until we get insurance

Sorry so many of you are still struggling. Hopefully we'll all keep making progress and feeling better in the upcoming weeks. I'm ready to feel normal again !

Sorry! Crap! I totally forgot gals! Was out of town for a long weekend and it slipped my mind.

Sorry to hear a few of you are struggling:(

Things are going well for me. I struggle the most on the weekends but haven't had any major setbacks. I think the medication has done so much for me. I've even found I perform better at my job and other tasks not related to our kids. I think I've needed help/meds for my anxiety maybe even depression but the PPD brought it to light that something may have been there all along. Unrelated but kinda related, DH and I are so disconnected right now. I haven't responded to the marriage troubles post but so many are expressing the same issues. Thinking about counseling for myself.

Those of you on meds, can you remind me what you're taking and if you're breastfeeding? My OB put me on Wellbutrin but our pedi says she'd have preferred Lexapro since I'm EBF.

Could be worth asking your doctor about. People respond differently to different meds.

I took Zoloft for PPD after DS was born. I didn't respond well to it, though. It flatlined me. I wasn't depressed, but I wasn't happy either. It made me numb, and now the first three months of DS's life is a giant blank spot in my memory. The psychologist I'm seeing told me that's not uncommon for Zoloft and other SSRI's, so she put me on Wellbutrin, a different class of drug.

I'm pretty sure you can take Wellbutrin at the same time as Zoloft, or just on its own, depending on what your doctor thinks is best.

Well...I got my period last night, so that explains a few things. Hormonal hulk rage FTW! Hormones are so fun (said nobody, ever).

@MK1013 I think I was on 25 mg of Zoloft but I can't remember for sure. I'm on 150 of Wellbutrin. It's not the first choice for BF but it's not known to be unsafe either. It's in the third tier, which basically just means it hasn't been studied extensively.

@MK1013 A lot of doctors still prescribe Wellbutrin for breastfeeding moms, especially if other meds aren't working. It's apparently just not something most want to jump straight into, since it's more in the unknown category. Our pedi did a little more research after I first asked, and she finally said she's comfortable with me taking Wellbutrin and continuing to BF. And she said it sounded like in my case the benefits of the drug far outweighed any possible (but unlikely) risks. She also said she's seen Lexapro prescribed for BF moms with PPD, so that one might be worth asking about if you don't have luck with the Zoloft

@MK1013‌ I'm not on any meds. I was originally prescribed Zoloft and reacted horribly to it and my psychologist said I'm able to "function" so I don't need to take anything. Functioning evidently means able to eat and sleep along with hold a conversation and laugh while taking to her. I was still being tortured inside. Lol

If anyone is interested I am reading Marie Osmonds book on PPD. I'm enjoying it so far and the back is written by her dr and it is so eye opening. It is all about hormones, vitamins to take and other holistic options. I wonder if these drs only exist in California.

I'm on Zoloft. Started at 50 and after about a month went up to 75. Still on that dosage and feel good about it. I do breastfeed.

@Kbinford01‌ Definitely call your OB. Going back to work is a very common trigger for late-onset PPD.
