Silly question- board vs. forum

In one of the venting threads someone said it was irritating when people didn't know the difference between message board and forum. I often use the terms interchangeably, in regards to the internet at least. What's the difference?

I did google it. And, at least the things I read, didn't seem to have much, if any, difference. Just curious if there was something I'm missing. Which is very likely considering I'm still half asleep with two kids jumping around me.

The first result from yahoo answers totally covers it. Forums are for back and forth discussions between posters. Message boards are for everyone to reply to an article or the OP and not really to each other.

This is a forum.

Okay yeah then I totally misread. This was just one of those stupid questions I couldn't get out of my head. Thank you for slapping my sense back into me. Now I will continue on my merry way and pretend this didn't happen lol.

I guess since you covered every definition I'll wave the white flag and let you have @Peledreamsofrain‌ for now. I've known the difference between a board and a blog and a thread, etc but I seriously couldn't get the forum vs. board thing out of my head. At least in regards to the internet. And of course the answer was ever so simple. Face palm.

@MauiBliss‌ you don't have to brag about your plans. Hmph. But I totally just pictured the two of you holding hands and frolicking down the beach, much like the one in you avatar. Except I have no clue what the two of you look like so you were just black shadowy figures. I'll just imagine myself chasing behind trying to join such a magical moment, at least until tomorrow when the white flag goes away.
