What is your preferred diaper rash treatment?

Hi Ladies! I know this has been discussed way back when but now that our LOs are a little older and more of us have experienced the dreaded diaper rash, what have you all found is the best for you? My LO has an awful case of it now (going on day 4) and I have gotten so many different recommendations I thought a poll might be the way to go :)

  • Destin has worked for us!
  • Loading the player...
  • SS. I haven't had diaper rash yet either, knock on wood.

  • I wish butt paste would work since it smells much better, but desitin seems to clear up diaper rash best for my girls.
  • Voted SS because we take a moment at each diaper change to let his junk just air out. When his skin is completely dry we apply a very thick layer of A & D. At night we put on an even thicker layer of A &D and also rub in a little Butt Paste. *Knock Wood* this regimen has worked and we have not hand a diaper rash at all. Good luck!
  • Boudreaux Butt Paste and the Honest Company healing balm (I know I complained about the company before but this stuff works great, and can get it from Target). Also baking soda baths work great.

  • We haven't had to deal with it for D yet, but C had a terrible bout with it when he was about a year old.  What finally cleared it up was actually a combo of several things: 1.) baking soda baths (I swear by these!); 2.) lots of naked time; and 3.) diaper rash cream covered with a layer of Vaseline so it doesn't rub off on the diaper.

Also, I never use a wipe for a pee diaper unless he is super super wet.

  • another one for not wiping after just pee unless he is super wet.

we use triple cream usually but for the really really bad stuff, I'm talking bright red with blisters and all that stuff, the extra strength Desitin (purple one) is pretty damn magical.
  • The girls haven't had diaper rashes. We don't wipe for pee and cloth diaper. If there is any sort of redness for anything (like the velcro scratched them) we use Aquaphor and disposables.

    I use Aquaphor for errythang.

  • SS no rash yet
  • We had one really bad one (like he started bleeding from rawness). I finally tried aquaphor and it cleared up immediately. He's had a couple more start and I put the aquaphor on and they are gone before the next change.
  • Wow! Thanks for all the great suggestions and advice ladies! We went to the mountains for a wedding last weekend an LO got a mild case of elevation sickness which resulted in diarrhea- hence the diaper rash.  Ive been using A&D alone and then added Aquaphor on top of it and this morning it is finally starting to clear up.  Poor little baby booty :(

  • I swear by water and vasaline. LO has not had one diaper rash in 3 months. I always wipe her down with a damped cloth and let it air dry for a few secs. I apply vasaline at night and if she pooped. If we go out, I only use the wipes but always wipe her butt with a damped cloth again when we get home (or bath if it's night time).
  • With my oldest DD, nothing ever seemed to work on her diaper rash. A nurse at the ped I took her to recommended a mixture of desitin, milk of magnesia/mylanta, and baking soda. I don't remember the specific measurements, but I would typically squirt a glob of desitin in a Small bowl, then I would add some MOM and heat in microwave for about 10-15 seconds. I would whisk it together with a fork, and then would just sprinkle some baking soda on top and mix until I had a paste. I would then stick it in a small Tupperware container and throw it in the fridge so it would be cool when i applied it to her poor bottom. It always cleared it up like a charm! Haven't had to use it yet with DS, but you better believe I'll be cooking some up at the first sign of diaper rash :-)
  • Air time, baking soda baths and Balmex.

Butt Paste only works for us as a preventative, does nothing for a rash.

Also just a side note... I recently found out he has an acid reflux problem and this can be linked to horrible, blistering diaper rashes. Since he's been on medication, it hasn't resurfaced (knocks on all wood).
  • Haven't had any rash yet (knock on wood) but we use a and d ointment as a preventative. Another one for the no wiping after pee unless visibly wet club. We also have a tube of Resinol if he does get a rash. It's the only thing that cleared up my eczema as a kid.

  • Balmex. I've tried most mentioned above and found a thick coat of balmex worked the best for my kids. Luckily, I haven't had to use it since she was first born.

  • Medicine mamas sweet bee magic or lavendar oil mixed into coconut oil. Both work great.

  • I rinse out the wipes before I use them and use aveno diaper cream
  • Even though it smells super medicinal and gets everywhere, maximum strength Desitin worked for the two rashes Oliver has had so far. Also, very frequent diaper changes and some "nude time" after bath helps too.

  • They had taped her area when she was a couple days old for a cathetor? I think i cant remember why, and the tape pulled off some of her skin and caused a bit of a rash/sores but we put butt paste on it and it healed. Now we just always have some sort of cream like aveeno oatmeal on her or babyganics gel stuff just as a barrior. The first diaper that goes on after a bath is cream free. But that paired with honest company diapers and wipes we have been rash free.
  • My LO hasn't had a rash yet. I also don't wipe when she just pees & I usually let her air out for a minute before I put her diaper on. I use Balmex about once a day or if she starts looking red.
