please do not take the procedures described above into your own hands and strip your freaking membranes yourself. You are not a medical professional and put yourself and your baby at risk for infection. Yes, third tri sucks. Ask your ob or midwife if this is something you are interested in, and they will do the procedure for you if they see fit.
JFC. @aeonlux if you are comfortable using your midwife training on your own body, that's your prerogative, however I think it is completely unwise and inappropriate, and just generally poor judgement to list the procedures on a forum for anyone to attempt. Whether or not you "knew what you were doing" does not have any bearing on the people who may try to do it themselves based on your posts. OBs and midwives generally don't instruct people how to strip their own membranes.... So you shouldn't either.
My best friend had it done with her second daughter. I'm not entirely sure WHY, because she was 38 weeks and already dilated... But they did it and she had the baby less than 24 hours later. She said it didn't hurt, but I think already being dilated had something to do with that! I suppose if it were offered to me, I would do it.
