Randon non-PG relate question

A coworker and I were discussing wedding rings. She is getting married in 2 weeks and the jeweler helping them isn't from the Midwest and he was shocked that she wanted her rings soldered. My ring are soldered and almost everyone I know also had it done. Its was even included in the warrenty for my engagement ring.

Do you have your rings soldered and what part of the country are you from or what country?

Re: Randon non-PG relate question

  • No and I'm from Florida. It makes sense but at the same time there are times when I want to wear my band without the sharp mass on top.

I want mine soldered, but haven't yet.  Now they my fingers have decided to swell, I'm glad I haven't.  Most days, I can only wear my band, not my engagement ring.

    ETA:  I'm in the south!

  • West coast and not soldered. Same goes for most of my married friends.
  • From the northeast (I'm from NYC and DH is from Boston) and I don't know anyone who has them soldered. What if you just want to wear your band one day? Do you get another one for that?

  • I guess I am a SS. I don't have a "wedding band". This is the closest pic I could find to my wedding ring. (I didn't wear mine today). I have always wanted a wedding band though. We went to the jewelers and they would have to custom make one that would fit the dimensions of my ring. The center diamond is not lined up with the 2 side ones. My wedding band would need a curve in it. All the ones I tried did not match up with princess cut diamonds on the side of my ring or the same width of my ring. They said "these types of rings didn't come with a wedding band even thought it's an engagement ring".

What I do is just wear a silver band that my grandma gave me. It's special to me so I wear that instead of a matching one. I could never solder them together though.

Not soldered and I'm in DC. They're not a set and are pretty different. I like the juxtaposition.

I have an emerald as the center stone in my engagement ring. The stone's softer than a diamond; if I'm doing something where I feel I could damage it, I only wear my wedding ring.

I'm adding because I LURVE my wedding ring and must AW it:

  • Mine are not. Sometimes I just want to wear my band on its own (at the gym, softball, etc.). I'm in Ohio.
  • I didn't solder mine until about a year into our marriage and before soldering, I guess I never wore just one.
  • Yes and I'm from New England. I probably got them done like 6 months after the wedding. I didn't think id like it but it was annoying when they didn't match up (my wedding ring has diamonds on the top half and I hated when it would spin around and you'd only see the bottom. Its a much cleaner look now and they both always look great!)
  • I'm from New Orleans and my are together.  I didn't do it right away. But once I found I either wore both or didn't at all I had my jeweler do it.  It was part of the price as is a yearly cleaning and re-dipping if necessary.

  • Southwest, and I have my e-ring saudered to the wedding bands. I have a ring guard, and it looks amazeballs all together.

I'm going to AW it because I looove it. Hubby done good. :x

  • My rings are not saudered together. (GA here)
I chose to NOT have them done because I do a lot of dog sports so wanted to be able to take off my engagement ring, but still wear my band.

  • Not soldered. I'm from Iowa and most people I know soldered their rings and some regret it because they can never wear them separate. I probably never will wear my separate. But I at least have the option. Maybe my e-ring, just because it doesn't fit as snug as wedding band. My rings do twist and the band could look funny because I only have diamonds 3/4 around but it doesn't bother me to straighten it out!

AW here because I too love my rings and they are still fairly new!!
  • Yep, all my jewelry comes off as soon as I get home too.  I also immediately change in to comfy clothes!

  • I have 3 rings and they are not soldered.  I thought about it originally but decided not to so that I could wear the wedding band solo when we traveled since hubby thinks my ring "draws attention" when we are different countries. But I actually don't ever wear the bands alone, I just bought a simple band to travel in  so, yea.  And I'm in Texas.

I have two bands worn on opposite sides of my engagement ring. They are not soldered. One band I have (damn near never) taken off. Only for doc appts where jewelry isnt allowed (ie surgery), and the few times I've had them cleaned. Other than that I always wear one band.

And Im from the east coast. MD to be specific.

I'm from California and mine are not soldered, but our jeweler did offer it.  I don't know anyone that does (but that's not really something you bring up a lot).

I chose not to because we spent a fair amount of money getting the band to custom fit the engagement ring shape and I thought it was silly.  They normally stay together pretty well on their own.  I just got them resized to fit my ever expanding self, and now they spin a little more than I'd like... but I'm sure they'll be tight again in no time.  :-q

  • Mine aren't because I thought I would wear my wedding band for work without  my e-ring.  That isn't the case and I have pondered getting it done.  I am from Texas
Love is like infinity: You can't have more or less infinity, and you can't compare two things to see if they're "equally infinite." Infinity just is, and that's the way I think love is, too.

  • My e-ring looks nearly identical to @srcr2011 and my wedding ring is completely different.  Most of the time, I wear my e-ring on my right hand and my wedding ring on my left hand.  They would look really weird together since they don't match at all other than in color.  I'm in CA.

  • I know my mother has her bands soldered together, I don't know exactly when she had it done, but I think it was while she was in Oklahoma. I don't have mine done because I couldn't if I wanted to. I made titanium micro-chainmaille rings for my DH and I. I can't wear the engagement ring because my fingers are too fat right now. What is nice about my band is that I can add rings to make it longer as I gain baby weight.

  • Tx here and not smoldered. I'm actually glad they are not. My DH recently "upgraded" the princess solitaire and I'm glad that I got to keep the enhancer as part of my "original" ring without going entirely new. Yes it does move but not enough to bother me.
  • Midwest, not soldered.  As someone else mentioned I like to be able to only wear my band when I travel.
    You had one job:

  • Mine are soldered together, the wedding band is curved and it would drive me NUTS to have it move around. Also, I didn't want the extra friction to wear the rings down. I honestly never even considered not soldering them, or thought about only wearing the wedding band. I never take my ring off unless I'm working with chemicals or something that might damage them. I live in FL, originally from CA.

  • I'm from the PNW but live in the dirty dirty south now. Mine are soldered together as my diamonds only come down halfway on each side on both rings. I either wear it all or don't and my don'ts are very seldom.

  • I'm from boston and mine are not soldered. My sister in law in Wisconsin has her soldered.
  • PA and not soldered. I can only wear my band right now.
  • Mine are soldered together, I am from Michigan. I thought maybe I'd wear just the band sometimes at first because my ring and pearl earrings are the only jewelry I ever wear and I take them off the minute I get home. However, I never wore them separately, so I got them soldered. This is the norm here. I only have one friend who doesn't, but she's from Chicago and just moved here.

  • My are soldered together. DH has a cousin that is a jeweler and he recommended it to help with wear and tear on the bands. I also have a plain gold band to wear if needed for some reason. I only wear my rings in public usually as well.
  • Never heard of such a thing and I am originally from the Midwest.  Maybe I'm wrong but I do not think I could have that done to my rings.  My wedding band is diamonds all the way around.

  • Mine are not. I'm from SC. I wanted to get them done before I became pregnant but now I'm gladni didn't. My wedding ring is thin enough that I will be able to wear it even if my fingers become sausages! I never ever take them off so it would be really strange if I couldn't wear either if them!
  • Pa/DE here.. not soldered but should be probably. I have a guarantee on them through helzberg though where they guarentee the diamonds. So I think if I change the bands it will be voided. I know a couple of people with it done though.
