Thank you etiquette for gifts received

Hiya everyone, 

I have started a list of gifts that we have received since finding out we were pregnant. Some gifts were given a few months ago, and I'm ashamed to say we forgot to send thank you's. 

My question to you all is this....What type of gift constitutes sending a thank you card? Anything? Here is a list of the gifts given so far, I believe all of these gifts were given out of excitement for the baby to be and that most of these people will be coming to our baby shower as well. Do we send a TY now or do we wait until after our shower?

    We had our shower over two months ago and I just bought thank you cards finally today. So needless to say I'm a slacker and not up on etiquette. I would maybe suggest waiting until after your shower so you can write one set of thank you cards. If you have time or a more proper family them maybe go ahead and send some out now.

    Second Ultrasound January 23 (8 weeks) we got to see and hear the heartbeat
    Third Ultrasound Feb 4th(10 weeks), then will  released to OBGYN'
    It's a GIRL!
    We welcomed Adalyn Cooper Elizabeth on 8/29/14
    She was 7lbs 11oz and 19.6 inches long

    Proud foster parents to two little girls ages 2.5 yrs old, M,  and 1 year old, K

    I always give a thank you note no matter what size/value the gift. I typically write the note as soon as I get the gift and drop it in the mail otherwise lord only knows when I would get around to it. With that being said just today I remembered I got a gift a month ago that I haven't sent a ty out for.
    People gave me gifts early and shower gifts and baby visiting gifts. Each gift got its own note since there was months in between. I tried to use different thank you notes to spice it up.
    I'm not sure what "true" etiquette is.

    We are thank you note people...mostly because C's mom is a stickler and so we always have a little bird in our ear telling us to send out thank you notes. I always think its so nice to get a thank you when I send a gift. I love getting mail and its nice to be recognized. I am with @karlamo...if I don't send it out right away it gets WAY procrastinated!

    03/21/2014 IUI #10...BFP!!! Beta #1- 48, Beta #2- 416, Beta #3- 1018. GROW BABY GROW!!!

    1st Ultrasound 4/22/2014 Baby Squints is PERFECT! Measuring at 6w2d with a heartbeat of 129. EDD: 12/12/14.

    Ultrasound at 18 weeks on 7/14/2014. Baby is healthy and growing just as she should!

    These are all great opinions. Thanks so much, I feel bad and am now going to send out the TY cards asap. :) 

    Its funny, cause I know with our wedding, I sent out TY cards immediately after receiving a gift before the wedding, heck, 3 days after our while we were on our honeymoon in Maui we sat and wrote out all TY's for everything received at the wedding. 

    We are normally more prompt than we have been with these baby gifts. Note to self...pick up the slack!

    Another thought is that we used all out thank you notes as a way to build our baby announcement list as we went along. So by the time the baby came, we had a list of addresses all done and ready to go for baby announcements.
    Lil'mamaz was born on Aug 21, 2014! She's PERFECT!

    It's been a long road to here...
    Me (43) and J (45) - same sex couple. And we don't feel 40+!
    June'12 - First RE Visit
    Sept. '12 - Tubes removed
    Dec. '12 - Donor Egg/Donor Sperm IVF Cycle - 4 good embies!
    Dec. '12 - Fresh transfer, BFP! EDD 8/29/13
    Mar. '13 - Missed m/c at 16w1d, baby boy stopped growing at 15w4d
    Loss due to umbilical cord clot...baby was perfect. :(
    Jul '13 - FET#1 - c/p
    Sept. '13 - FET#2 - BFN
    Dec.' 2, 2013 - FET#3 with our last chance embie - BFP!!!
    Dec' 26, 2013 - hb!!
    EDD 8/20/14 with a baby girl!
    Little S was born on 8/21/14 - 8lb, 14 oz and 20 inches long.
    We live in Seattle and used SRM for our donor egg IVF cycle

    We actually have all of our friends and family's addresses already on file. We got married last year in October and had to collect everyone's information at that time. But regardless, that is a really good idea :)

    We did too...but we've gotten gifts from a bevy of random people we didn't have on our wedding or shower lists. Coworkers, a few of my mom's friends and neighbors, our neighbors, etc. I figure anyone who sends a gift gets an announcement, and I've been surprised how many people I've added! And, this will become the Christmas card list, at least for this year with the "baby's first Christmas" card!!!

    I didn't even think of people just sending gifts that weren't invited, lol. 

    Looks like we will be making a new list of addresses!
