Cleaning products while pregnant

My doctor recommends that I only clean with vinegar during my pregnancy because products like mr clean could be dangerous for the baby so I should avoid those altogether or have someone else do the cleaning. Vinegar doesn't seem to be cutting it though. Any recommendations?

Shit so I shouldn't have washed the floors on my hands and knees with bleach? Oh well, i have no plans on changing my cleaning routine

  • I have used my regular cleaning supplies with all of my pregnancies all my kids are healthy.
But man wouldn't a house cleaner be nice??
  • I only come out of my bubble to buy my bottles of filtered water. The world is just too toxic.

Get a bottle of cleaner. There are tons of organic option. Don't huff it or drink it. Then sit back and enjoy your clean house,
  • I agree with others, that's pretty extreme of your ob to tell you that. I've avoided regular harsh cleaners in our house since I had my twins, but that's just a personal preference. There are plenty of great plant based organic cleaners out there. I love diluted vinegar for cleaning...especially windows & hardwood floors. And ditto blue Dawn & vinegar for being an amazing shower cleaner.

  • I avoid harsh cleaners even when not pregnant.  I use vinegar anyway, so yes that works for me.
PPD/PPA Mom...it has been super hard, but I'm making it! Slow steps...

  • I use plant-based cleaners even when not pregnant...I really like Seventh Generation and Mrs. Meyer's.
  • Only thing I've heard is possibly unsafe is oven cleaner. Which is a great excuse not to cook.
  • I haven't used typical (bleach and stuff) for a long time because I simply don't like having the chemicals in the house. My FAVORITE cleaning line is Better Life (cleanhappens.com). I swear they clean better then Lysol or anything else I have used! And all natural completely pregnant safe and I don't need to open every window when I clean. I was actually carrying around a bottle of one of the cleaners to help with me MS.
  • I get the H to do it. Problem solved. I'm a lazy bitch.

  • I love the honest company's products. Can't get them while living over seas. But I did bring a few spot cleaner refills back in May. That stuffs amazing and I can't live without it!
  • Shhhhh no one tell H I can use regular cleaners!! I also have him believeing that I shouldn't be picking up dog poop....
  • I've always used 7th generation or Method cleaning products and had good results. Although, I still use bleach, because that's the only thing that's gonna kill 99.9% of germs (according to the bottle) when I need to disinfect something.

Your doc's advice seems a bit extreme.

:) thanks for the advice, I also ask because a friend of mine miscarried recently and assumes it was due to her use of cleaning products like bleach, ajax/comet, and mr.clean.I tried diluting the vinegar but it just didn't "feel" clean. I'll definitley try some of the products above. Thanks again mamas!

I recommend that you change your avatar picture to something other than your bare gut.

Really? -__- that was weak if you're here to troll you're in the wrong place. This forum is about cleaning products not my 2 month baby bump that I was proud to show. It's really sad that people come here looking for actual advice only to find out they're being teased by an internet troll. Thank you to everyone else who gave me a helpful non sarcastic answer but I'm officially done with the bump forums and the immature trolls that ruin them.

Whoa there. @katydid2014 is far from a troll. She gave you legitimate advice that's relevant to the bump. Bare guts don't go well over here. Especially when it's such a tiny picture and hard to tell what it is. You can proudly show your (covered) gut every Wednesday in the HDBD thread. And you were far from teased. Maybe all that vinegar is going to your head because you just flipped out over nothing. Nothing. @brittgirl123

Oh, and if she was so wrong to point that out why did you change your avatar?? You are getting super defensive for no reason. Everyone gave you helpful advice and was nice. SMH
  • I actually clean houses for a living, so I around a lot of cleaning products. I agree with all of the recommendations above, but would also like to add magic erasers. They are the bomb!!
  • Method products (at target) are great and smell good! I love the lime & lavender scents. And they are not expensive like some others!
