30 weeks bed rest :(

In a freak out/ angry mood. I know I have posted in the rant thread but went to l&d a few weeks ago for vague pains but they saw no contractions on the monitor. They found I was 1 cm dilated but thick . I returned to the OB last week with no change. They just told me to take it easy. I went today and it was a different OB who said 1 cm but 50% effaced and put me on bed rest.

I know I'm not the only one in this boat but now I'm of course freaking out. About the baby's health, about how to manage my DS without totally overloading DH, money and leave after baby , and freaking out about every little pain and ache.

Those that are on bed rest or have been...suggestions of how to deal?

  • No bed rest here, but I'm off work on Stress Leave. Similar, but also not fun!
    Sending Hugs your way!
  • Hugs! I was on bed rest at 7 months on with youngest DS, 6 months on with oldest DS- it sucked.

I also have a gut feeling when they do the check on my cervix next week I'm gonna be dilated and then I'll be joining you. I've been having little contractions all week.

Hugs, I know how you feel.
  • No experience, just wanted to say sorry you are going through this! FX'd your LO hangs in there for a while.

  • I don't have a lot of solid advice but wanted to offer a chapter out of a book that I really enjoyed called, Expecting Better. It had a chapter on bed rest and when moms should push back on a sometimes overused and ineffective practice. Now, I obviously have no clue if this would apply to you or not but certainly good food for thought. And if your laying low anyways you might have time to download the book! Best of luck-I'm so sorry!
  • Big hugs to you. I'm sorry you're on bed rest. FX baby stays put for a while.

  • I'm sorry to hear that you're in the bed rest club as well :( I've been on strict bed rest for 4 weeks now for preterm labor and my Doc is hoping I can make it to at least 32 weeks (2 more to go... And hopefully longer!). I work on a computer so my work got me a special work station where I can work laying down and I've reduced my hours to part time. For me, being able to work has helped pass the time and keep my sanity. I've also watched enough Judge Judy, People's Court and Judge Mathis that I think I can be a lawyer when this is all done (>_<) I've also got a queue of books and magazines to read and have taken up knitting (I'm pretty terrible at it- old ladies make it look so easy! O_o) I know how rough it is, but try to stay positive and hang in there - we're in the final stretch now (o ^_^)b
  • I've been on bedrest (at home) with this pregnancy for 4 weeks now. I'm just SOO thankful that my drs aren't putting me on hospital bedrest (I spent 3 weeks with my last pregnancy before my LO decided to join us at 27 weeks). I'm VERY fortunate that my MIL is available to help us. My hubby does all the house stuff now and most of the daycare runs. But, the ones he cannot make, due to work, my MIL steps up!
My biggest stressor about being on bedrest AGAIN is that I'm wasting ALL my FMLA before LO even arrives. My work has been great so far, but, no matter what, I am taking 8 weeks after LO arrives (since it will definitely be another section). I came back to work after 4 weeks with my 27 weeker because she was still in the NICU and wanted to "save" my time-that was a joke! My employers fought me on taking time off since I returned (the biggest reason was that it was Christmas and people wanted to be off even though my due date was dec 8 and I would've been off if I had made it to term.)
  • Gah. Definitely not a good situation. I keep having this feeling my OB will take me off work and send me to bed early because I've been quite dizzy. It upsets me just thinking about it, but I'll suck it up for LO.

Maybe find special things you can do with DS from bed? Make a game out of it? Bed-crafts? And I second the knitting idea for your sanity. You'll have a huge blanket by the time you're done!
  • I don't have any experience or advice, just sorry you're on bed rest and hope that the baby stays put and the time passes quickly.

  • I can totally relate and I know it's tough .. But hang in there! I've been on "take it easy" since 16 weeks and then official bed rest & out of work since going into PTL at 21 weeks due to my cervix dilating and shortening. I did have to have it stitched shut and in the beginning I was really good about following doctors orders but the further I get I'm finding myself breaking the rules more and more .. So no real advice there :/ I was going stir crazy not being able to do what I was used to (cleaning/cooking etc) and because I get checked weekly via u/s I have the assurance that my cervix is staying shut... and that my increased activity isn't effecting It. I do sit on the couch a good 75% of the day watching TV .. Crocheting (learned that via a YouTube video when I first went on bed rest) & doing random things online. Changing it up is key for me. Hope this time passes fast for you!

  • So sorry to hear this. I was on rest for 3 weeks near the end of my 1st trimester and beginning of 2nd, and a modified rest for 4 months total. It is so strange not being able to be self sufficient... We are moms, it's what we do!!!

Please take the rest you need and nap and snuggle with DS any chance you get.

Thoughts and prayers! Bake baby bake!
  • Prayers that baby stays put for a little while longer. Hang in there, Mama!
  • So sorry that you have to deal with this!

  • Hugs to you friend!  I know it sucks but it's what's best...good luck :)
  • @zengal‌ so far so good. I've done some reading and watched some parenthood on Netflix. I've also been trying to take care of some phone business with work, HR, and sons daycare. I feel like every time I have to talk to someone I turn into a stupid sobby mess , but what can you do

  • @Stephaniegiboney‌ hopefully everything works out with your test and shot. I am trying to take it day by day and stay distracted. I go back Monday and am very hopeful for no changes. I'm not sure why they haven't done the shots or FFn test for me but maybe because I'm a STM or because I really haven't had contractions.

  • @sweetbabyrahe‌ I was thinking something similar. I asked my doctor if this potentially means bedrest and he said he doesn't think it's effective. Why are providers so different??

  • I know it's really confusing @Stephaniegiboney‌ but I have heard that bed rest is questionably effective
