  My husband came to most of them simply because his job gave him the paid time off to do it. If that hadn't been the case then he would have been at a select few and that would have been it. Most appointments are just talking and measuring so I don't see the point. If I had lived closer to my mom I probably would have had her come to one with me to listen to the heartbeat and just spend the day together after.
