Health/Fitness/Wellness Check In

Beginning of the month and it is a perfect time to get my butt in gear! Let's get this check in back up and going! All are welcome!

- How has it been doing? Did you fall off or stay on the band wagon? Or like me-- hanging onto the back bumper trying to hang on....

- What helps you keep organized on track with healthy eating and fitness?

- Any goals that you have for the upcoming week/month?

  • I haven't done it, but I also came across this Dr. Oz 30-day detox and I saved the link because some of the recipes sound delicious:

This kid may not have a lot of bowel, but he has plenty of guts!
DS born at 34 weeks with (surprise!) gastroschisis turned short bowel syndrome.
131 days in the NICU, 7 trips to the OR, G-button, daily TPN....
We are impatiently awaiting the day we can say goodbye to his girlfriend Ivy for good.
  • @casey78 it's a really awesome workout and meal plan type workout. It's all about the right foods and the right portions. When I got the containers I was like whattttt? They seem small but I was never hungry. Sometimes I didn't even eat all my containers in a day because I was so full.
  • @casey78 i wish I could get past the two weeks do great then something happens and I get derailed.

How long do they say you have to do something to make it a habit?

I may have to look into this 21 day fix concept. Portions are also a tough go.

I downloaded my fitness pal about 3 weeks ago. It has made me really aware of what I am eating. I was finding it really hard to not snack all day or grab a few extra goldfish/ crackers/cheese etc since I am at home. Since tracking my food, I am making a much better effort to eat less, as well as snacking on things that may fill me up more (like nuts). I am a very picky eater, so I am trying to do my best to make healthy choices I enjoy.

I am 10 lbs above pre-preg weight (it was a healthy weight for me). I don't have a specific goal, but I would like to be closer to that number.

My other issue is that I hate exercising! We don't have the $ for a gym membership. I am trying to go on walks with ds, but he ends up falling asleep or zoning out enough to not take his naps that day. So I have to weigh exercising vs. a super cranky toddler who gets a 20 min nap.

  • @fabk cutting out the sugar is a great start. The past two weeks I have tried to cut down my caffeine intake. I can't go cold turkey like DH so I am down to 1.5 cups a day.

I think by cutting something like that is a good start.

@lancomechica‌ is right. I think for anything to work for the long haul it has to be a lifestyle change.

  • I have been really trying, but I cannot figure out this weight loss process. For two months I went to an amusement park and/or the zoo twice per week while lugging the wagon. I did a lot of other walking an active things with the kids. I did not lose a single pound.

Over the past few weeks, I lost 12 pounds by being lazy and stopping my exercise routine. I can't figure this out!

I have 8 pounds to go to my pp weight. I still can't believe I am under 200 again. I thought I was going to be wearing my moms work pants forever.
  • @mystererae this is the first injury I've had in months (other than my hand thing being a constant pain). Today it is killing me. I won't be hitting my step count today.
The last time I ran that long was probably 2009. I just decided to blow my running plan that day and see how far I could go.

@lauraB1016 I cut out all sugar back in March and April. The first two weeks were not fun. I don't think I'll go as long this time (halloween candy is soon!)
  • I'm so glad this is back, I missed our check ins!

I've been doing okay, it's been a bit tough sticking with my T25 workouts since going back to work and still pumping on lunch break, which is my normal workout time at the office. But I've stuck with it for the sake of challenge group I'm hosting (full disclosure: I'm a Beachbody coach as a side job).

@LauraB1016‌ as for habits, I've been told that it takes three weeks to form a habit, hence the concept around 21Day Fix :) I enjoyed it when I did it back in the spring, the workouts are pretty good and the portion control/nutrition plan is easy to follow. It's been a super popular program because it helps ppl with both exercise AND diet.

I'm bummed fall is around the corner, I find I'm so much more active in the nicer weather. Won't be long until the bike and rollerblades are packed for the season :(
  • I'm also glad that this check-in is back. I had also fallen off the wagon somewhat for a few months  :-S but now I'm in the 4th week of the Couch to 5k program. I really like it but it does get hard. I've never done this much running before ever. I love running outside though, it's so much nicer than on a treadmill.

I have 10 "vanity pounds" as @casey78 called them... (Perfect description!) that I want to lose. My body is holding on to them hard, but I'm working on it.
  • @casey78 Thanks.. I hope I can do it! I'll push through!
  • @SummerBebe47‌ you can do it! Once you pass week4 something just kicks in! Seriously! Keep it up!

  • @LauraB1016 That's good to hear! Thank you!
  • @rondosa I agree about fall. I am afraid of what will happen to all my progress once it gets cold.
  • So glad to see this back!! I definitely jumped off the wagon this summer...eating and drinking all the things!! Luckily I didn't gain much , just didn't lose! I'm motivated though as we are ttc again, so I'm trying to make really good choices. Meal prep is back in. I go back to work in 2 weeks, so planning to do crock pot meals for the freezer. I started a 30 day challenge today on Facebook and just did my fit test....ugh!

@LauraB1016‌ thanks for starting this up again!!

  • I started Weight Watchers in June and have lost 20 lbs so far. I'm 26 lbs less than I was when I got pregnant, but still have 4 lbs to lose before I'm in the "normal" category instead of the "overweight" category. My personal goal is 9 more lbs. I love WW and have done it with great success in the past. As long as I go to the meetings for accountability, I stay successful. It's when I stop going that I fall off the wagon. Making sure I write down everything I eat is really what helps me because I don't want to write down things like candy and cake. I'm hoping that once I get to my goal, I will be able to continue to maintain that weight and not feel deprived.

  • @mystererae‌ I'm not sure, I wasn't going for gluten free, so didn't pay attention!! Hope your lo is doing ok....

  • I love freezer meals! They are soo convinent. While I probably don't make the healthiest freezer meals for the time being I think it is better then going out to eat where I would most likely get French fries and something fried.... WTG @Karen0477!

Speaking of French fries I almost caved and went downstairs for French fries. Luckily DH reminded me of the carrots he packed for me! That was a close call.
