TTC after 35

TTC after miscarriage

Unfortunately I miscarried last night. I was 6 weeks along, my betas were very low since the start, not doubling and US showed nothing but a bit of fluid in my uterus. I'm hoping I don't need a D and C but I will know more this afternoon when I see my OB.
I surprisingly feel ok about it all, a little tearful but I'm ready to put it behind me and move on. I'm wondering what the average wait time is TTC after miscarriage. I've heard different but I guess it's up to my OB. I wonder too what could have caused the MC. I have endometriosis and I'm turning 42 next week. I guess that's reason enough!
let's hope we all have a very short stay on this board! Baby Dust to us all!!

    All welcome

  • I'm so sorry for your loss. Your Dr should let you know based on your situation when is the best time to start trying again. For me I had to wait 1 month after my miscarriages that involved having a d&c and right away for my cp.
    Fucking bump!!!!
  • I am so sorry for your loss.  I wish you healing.
  • I'm very sorry for your loss.
Depending on what procedure they may do for post-miscarriage will determine how long you have to wait. Some people can try immediately, and some have to wait a few cycles.

    Good luck and (((hugs)))
  • I'm very sorry for your loss. I waited two cycles but your RE will know best

  • I'm so sorry for your loss (((hugs)))  Doctors vary in what they'll recommend in terms of wait time to TTC after a loss, your OB will let you know what their preference is for you.  Please make sure to have them clarify what they tell you - for example, if they say 1 cycle, does that mean wait out the cycle that starts after you get your next period, then start TTC again after the second period post-loss.  It seems like a little thing, but I've seen so often where that wasn't clarified by the doctor and women are confused about what was meant by 'wait x number of cycles'.

Also, just a word of advice for all of the boards here on The Bump, I would recommend not using the term 'baby dust' on any of them.  For many women who have experienced later loss and had to cremate their angels, the term is reminiscent of that and quite offensive, so we don't wish baby dust on anyone.  Thanks in advance for understanding!

  • I'm so sorry if I've offended anyone by saying baby dust. I had No idea. I thought it was term to wish everyone luck in TTC. My apologies.
  • I am so sorry for your loss. That term does many something different on other boards, but sadly many of us are on the loss side of things. As you may learn moving forward (tlc35 is right - it may take a few days, but the emotion will probably hit you) things look different when you have suffered a miscarriage and phrases and topics that once seemed innocuous take on a sharper edge. No worries, though. We appreciate the apology.

As for waiting, first and foremost go with what your doctor says, but also don't be surprised if your body behaves differently for a while. Post-miscarriage cycles can be really screwed up. Your body has been through a lot.

Welcome to the board. I hope your stay is short and sweet.

  • Sorry for your loss but welcome to the board.  My doctor said we could try whenever we were ready and were told to wait 2-4 weeks after the surgery before having sex.  My age and the fact that it was an early loss and very little tissue were factors in getting the go ahead right away.  For peace of mind, I would wait at least until you get post surgery AF so you have a better idea of when to test and it will be easier for the doctor to date a future pregnancy.  FWIW, I got AF 5 weeks after my surgery.
