MRSA

My LOs ped is 99% he has an abcess on his bottom that is MRSA. I'm waiting on a call from a pediatric surgeon to get it drained and am at the pharmacy to get antibiotics to keep it from spreading. To say I'm scared is an understatement. Please send positive thoughts and prayers our way so this doesn't turn into something more serious.

We've been admitted to the children's hospital. The hospitalist seems to think its staph or MRSA but will know more after surgery tomorrow morning when they take a biopsy during the draining procedure. No feeding after midnight which is going to be so hard! Thank you all for the support!

My little man is out of surgery and back in his room. Surgeon said all went well and drained a spot about the size of an egg. Not sure yet what type of infection it is. Surgeon says they are actually somewhat common at this age. He sees about 3-4 a week and there's no real cause of them. Thank you all for the support and hope to get to go home soon!

Update: LO had his ped appt today and the results of the cultures show it was E. coli and not MRSA, staph or yeast. The only thing he could think of as to how he got it was that he may have strained hard during a bowel movement and created an internal fissure that got poop inside it and closed up then festered into an abscess. Basically, bad luck! He'll get his drain tube removed Tuesday and hopefully be good to go!
