Transitioning to the crib/bedroom?

Re: Transitioning to the crib/bedroom?

  • @Taymiller‌ I felt the same way with the RNP... but figured it had to happen sometime, right?

If it helps, last night (night 3) went great. It took a little longer to put him down during the MOTN feedings, like @AbbySeiden‌ said, but he slept decently. I brought him into my room with me at 8am and he slept another hour but otherwise, he is doing good!

  • Gah. We transitioned lo to her crib because she is hard to get to bed as it is. We had her fall asleep in her crib, and would move her to her bassinet after she fell asleep. Crazy but it worked. Well she is a roller, and would end up against the mesh of the bassinet, and moving her was always a wakeup risk. Plus she seems to have stopped her 2 am feeding.

Now we have her in the crib, and i am so anxious i am getting less sleep than before. I keep reminding myself we follow most reccs, cool room, fan, pacifier if she will take it. But i miss her laying next to us. Will i ever sleep?

  • So I can't get LO to sleep in his crib for a nap for anything. I'm getting seriously worried that he's going to be in this swing forever. Every time I put him in the crib he sleeps for like 30 minutes and then wakes up. Any ideas on how to get him through the sleep transition? It's not an issue in the swing or RNP.
  • We're now night 3 in the cribs! I slept on top of their crib sheets and that did the trick. Now they're happily sleeping in their little baby prisons snoozing away. Once we make it to a week I'm packing up their baby trappers (RnPs). Yay!

  • @katekat8721‌ - baby prisons lol

@mrscbrad - no real advice, but I feel you. I hope one of these other ladies has some ideas!

I wish mine slept in his crib for 30 min. I tried yesterday and he lasted literally four and a half minutes before he was screaming. That was four min longer than the first time I tried yesterday. I'm pretty sure the kid will only sleep in his bouncer or on dh or I. Going to invest in a white noise machine this week. Maybe a projector one but I'm worried that'll be too stimulating

  • Last night was a bust, even though we've been at it for almost 2 weeks. LO didn't go down for a while, only slept 2.5 hours, woke up and wouldn't go back to sleep. A frustrated and very tired hour later, I put him in the RNP in our room and bam! He's out for 4 hours. Sigh.

  • Thanks Ladies! I have the Sound Sleeper White Noise App and that helped last night. I'll be sleeping on his sheets tonight to see how that works.

They are each in their own crib? In their own shared room?
    Yes! A Christmas miracle! :)

  • Also- are you all putting LO down drowsy or asleep. He went down asleep tonight and is still going strong several hours later but I try drowsy for naps and it's war.
  • LO is the opposite. I can put him to bed drowsy and he'll self-soothe himself and pass out. For naps, though, if he's not conked out, he's not going to sleep. I have to work on our napping routine.

@lest12 SAME EXACT THING here. I can put him into his pnp at night drowsy and he will SLEEP. 8.5-9.5 the last four nights. I tried putting him into his crib drowsy for a nap and it lasted four minutes. I've done that with him conked out and the max I get in his crib is 10-15 minutes.

  • Am I crazy? Ever since I transitioned DD to the crib, I keep hearing random phantom crying throughout the night, but she's asleep when I go check! Does this happen to anyone else? I keep a fan running in my room and have thought I've heard music and talking before. Maybe it's the fan?? I don't think I'm going to have a restful sleep for a long time.
  • Lo won't nap during the day in the crib, rnp, or pnp. We're lucky to get 30 minutes in the bouncer seat too.

But he does so well at night. I put him down drowsy in the crib in his room at 8:30pm and have to wake him up at 6:30am to get dressed for daycare. He's been sleeping 8-10 hours at night since 6 weeks. I know how lucky I am (he's #4).

He would never accept a swaddle, but does very well with the sleep sack. I highly recommend it. Before we started the sack he'd wake up in the middle of the night I think he was getting cold in the half swaddle.

  • @Dharmatron - I hear the same things! I too sleep with a fan on and the monitor right next to my head and will wake several times thinking I hear her crying. When I go in and check on her, she's sound asleep. It's the strangest thing!

  • My lo has shrieked in her sleep. Is that what you may be hearing?

  • Naps in the crib have been awful so we are back to naps in the swing but he has been sleeping great at night in the crib.
  • Just an FYI, night time and day time sleep are controlled by two different parts of the brain which may explain why your bedtimes and nap times are drastically different.

Good to know! That explains why my LO can fall asleep so easily during the day but at night... It's often a battle for like 2 hours before she "officially" sleeps!
  • @jennyd321 it's so frustrating! I don't all day yesterday trying to get him down.

@dharmatron - Last night was the first time, but every time I dosed off, I thought I heard the baby crying and woke up.  DH was next to me in bed and didn't hear anything... so I was definitely imagining it.  I think I was overtired from a very long day of him crying anytime I put him down for a nap...

  • @lest12 - I'm the only one hearing it too. I woke up DH to ask him last night and he said "Uhhhh....no."

My LO wouldn't sleep in her bed either.. Only in her swing. Turns out she hated sleeping flat because of her reflux and in the swing her head was elevated. So we elevated the bed and have had no problems since. Its now been 3 weeks in her bed! Maybe try putting her mattress at an incline?
