DS is 2 and talks well. He loves being the center of attention - which is fine and I think totally normal; but lately he gets very upset if I talk to other people. For example, if I try to talk to DH while we are in the car, DS would scream "no talking mommy!" over and over again. He does that regardless of who I am talking to - and he can be happily by himself, but the moment I start talking to someone, he'd stop his play and start screaming or tries to hit me.
I've never heard of another child do this - anyone else?
My son will interrupt a lot like that! It's be cuz he wants to be apart of the conversation and wants the attention. It's normal just try and include him as much as u can except obviously if it's really a adult conversation. And then and only then he needs to understand that he's to not interupt. Explain that it's not being ignored but telling u to stop talking or interrupting what ur saying is inappropriate behavior and not allowed. But really it's cuz he prob just wants to be apart of what ur doing. Try not to worry he'll grow out of it
We've been working on "Excuse me" lately when he's interrupting a conversation. Since we're in the early stages I try to stop the conversation and respond immediately to reinforce it. Once he gets the hang of it we'll work on him having to wait for the response.
My son does this, he starts yelling "Mommy" over and over and louder and louder to get my attention. Then he will be point something out to me (it could be anything, whatever is right in front of him, like he wanted to show me that thing, but he really just wanted to get my attention). I think they just want all the attention they can get at this age. I think it's pretty normal.
