I'm joining a little late...I have a soft spot for Twilight bc the first book came out when I was 18 and by the time the movies came out, DH, then just boyfriend, would take me to the midnight premieres even tho he was 30 and the only dude in the theater and worked 60 hours a week and was exhausted but he would do it to make me happy ;-)
As for 50 Shades, when I heard it was based off fan fiction for Twilight, that just sounded incredibly stupid. BUT it is a pet peeve of mine when someone goes off on something they have NOT read. Even if you start something and then don't finish it, you really can't comment bc you aren't a knowledgable source. I mean even the republicans read through democrats ideas before shooting them down and vice versa.
So, it's just that people without class like Disney World. Much better.
Hahahaha! I said I generalized....obviously not everyone that loves going to Disney is lacking class. I definitely would say it attracts a different crowd (for adults not kids) as a vacation destination though as opposed to some other spots. I get it's an UO here (although not where I live) - sorry to have offended you.

Naked belly pics on social media. I don't wanna see it. It is a beautiful amazing thing that DH and I will share together during this pregnancy. But I will NOT be showing my naked bump on the internet.

I must be the queen of white trash since we have annual passes....
@QSB I'm not defending Stephenie Meyer's use of creative license and writing about things she isn't well versed in. But I stand by my point and actually you helped make it. Stephenie Meyer didn't study her characters historical backgrounds and roots in the real world hard enough, so she came off sounding uneducated and turned people off from her actual message.
I think Preggie Pops are about the dumbest thing ever, and people who buy them will probably buy just about anything. The name should be enough reason to stay away from them, the word 'Preggie' makes me cringe.
I bought them with my first. You're right. I was so sick I did buy everything. But they worked. Well, the orange ones mostly. Or maybe I just sucked on an orange one first and I could actually go 25 mins without throwing up so I only wanted orange ones from then on.

No, I'm pretty sure I was turned off by her actual message. I'm not really a fan of obsessive, unhealthy, over-protective relationships or that a girl needs her boyfriend to not be depressed. I'm curious as to what positive message you think the books gave?

Edit - Not sure what happened to the quote box?
It was just another love story. About vampires. Which I think people forget don't actually exist. Of course I'm the type to just take some things for what they are. If teenagers think that twilight is solely about a codependent unhealthy relationship and that's all they should strive for then 1) they must not have a real healthy relationship example in their life or 2) they have forgotten that it's a story about vampires who glitter in the sun.
The Notebook is an awful movie about a horrible relationship. Sure, the old man reading to his wife is sweet. Everything before that is like a guidebook for destroying a relationship.
I haven't even seen The Notebook bc I don't get what everyone sees in Ryan Gosling. (Sorry I know this is so mean but) I do NOT find him even remotely handsome/hot etc & quite frankly find his face downright UNattractive. Obviously its just my (clearly)UNpopular opinion. ;P
Agree! I think Ryan Gosling is so unattractive - especially his face. Ugh. No thank you.
YOU ARE BSC!
those close-set eyes though...
(jk... I don't find him very attractive, but I do want to touch his hair... it's just so pretty...)
Never been to Disney of any sort, six flags, or even a chucky cheese (I don't know how much longer I can hold out on that last one... thankfully all the parents I know hate the joint.)
I will trade all my coffee and chocolate for all of your bacon... if anyone is willing to strike that deal, I will be the happiest lil' prego in town...
Not a fan of Friends either... but also not against it. I didn't really have a TV growing up, so I just never got into it. Doctor Who on the other hand... I avoid social media if I miss one until I catch up to avoid spoilers because I love it. Boy or girl, Tardis Blue will be incorporated into baby stuff.
and last one (maybe) I HATE droid. I am iPhone all the way. I've been waiting to get my screen repaired and using an original droid X as my backup while waiting... I have so many plans for that phone when it's use is no longer needed... The legality of some are questionable.
My UO I need a vacation without DS. I love him so much but I would love to have a little vacation with just DH and myself before this baby arrives. DH is so busy at work that if we were to get away for a vacation, I know he would want to bring DS because he wants to spend time with his son.

that's not unpopular at all... I love my kids, and I miss them when they aren't around, but sometimes you have to make sure you keep your relationship healthy as well.

Except that, vampires aside, it's touted as the ultimate example of perfect love. And teenagers are notorious for idealizing the relationships presented to them in pop culture. Telling the most emotionally impressionable age group (teenagers) that a man who stalks you and controls every aspect of your life is really just a man who loooooves you is gross at best and dangerous at worst. And yeah, I've read the books.
What @AggieDaner said. And it's not like every teen has a healthy relationship in their life to look at as an example. It's fine that you have a sentimental attachment to it for reasons previously mentioned, @bayside14. But it's poor writing & a poor message so I just can't get behind it.
@AggieDaner And Romeo and Juliet were so dependent on each other that they committed suicide. And 16 year old girls are required to read the play in high school.
I'm just saying. Take a story for what it is. I'm done arguing over vampires. Move along.
Late to the game, but I'll play: I hate the Beatles, and I've never seen dirty dancing or grease and I don't give a shit.
The transition from Polythene Pam to She Came in Through the Bathroom Window - pure musical genius. I'll concede that they wrote a fair number of stinkers, but in the context of musical history, their importance cannot be underscored.
And people call me soulless for not liking Friends.
As for Dirty Dancing, I finally saw it and was surprised! It is actually quite a heavy movie that addresses social issues.

uuuugh... I'm just saying one thing on that, then I'm leaving it alone because I don't like to step on fandom...
Yes, teenagers read it, but it is also along with being taught about the STYLE of the writing, and underlying messages to scenes... It's a mesh of English and History because they tell of the era and the even the theaters... so taking that into account, I should hope today's teenagers aren'd dumb enough to not take those things into account with the story.
My MIL is a led zeppelin FREAK. When I say freak, I mean she is the president of several fan clubs and she pretty much stalks Jimmy Page online. She talks about ZoSo like they are her buddies. If she gets me a LZ onesie I'm gonna burn that shit so fast

That's a weird point to bring up. Romeo and Juliet is problematic, therefore it doesn't matter if twilight is problematic? Got it. I actually wish R&J would be replaced by any number of alternate Shakespeare plays, but I'm not in control of the common curriculum and I'm not sure how easy it would be to get 15 year old's to read King Lear.
And continuing to reduce it to, "lol its just vampires" is missing the point entirely. As you said, the point of the book is the love story, not an in depth discussion of the probability of the existence of actual mythical creatures. So, of course people are going to focus on the fact that the love story it idealizes so ridiculously is actually a prime example of an emotionally abusive relationship. If the point of the book is "x", and "x" is horrible, why is it so odious for people to judge the book as horrible?
But, oh well. We've been ordered to move on, so I guess we can't talk about it anymore.
@bayside14 I copped a shitty attitude during that last post of mine, that's my bad. I genuinely loathe Twilight, but my grumpy mood right now isn't your fault. Sorry about that.

No offense taken. You're still good people in my book.
I pretty much have only eaten graham crackers the last 2 days, but I just made a baked potato and it may be the best thing ever. I didn't throw it up, and I don't feel sick anymore. It might have had magical powers. Also, I'm slightly obsessed with David Archuleta. My friends and husband think I'm crazy.
The last two nights I stood in my kitchen for an hour looking for something that didn't make me gag. So today I went to the store and got all kinds of bland, plain, and tasteless foods to eat. Bagels, bread, crackers...they all are glorious!
cAnd jogging pants, sweat pants and even yoga pants. Time and place, not out in public. Boo. Yucky. And please don't have something sprawled across your ass, it hurts my eyes;-)
Yes. More so sweat pants but yes. I worked in a yoga clothing store a few years back and hated having to wear them in public after or before work.
