2nd, 3rd, or more pregnancy and already in maternity?!

This is my third pregnancy. I am only 6 weeks, but I feel like it's already impossible to try and suck in or fit comfortably in my regular jeans. I wore maternity clothes at 12 weeks with my first, 10 weeks with my second, but 6 weeks seems crazy to me with my third! Anyone not on their first and growing faster already?

  • Yep! I'm sure it's just bloat. But I can't believe it. I was looking at old pics and at week 6 my belly looks like it did at 13 weeks last time. Yikes

  • IMO it is bloat. Nothing wrong with getting your maternity clothing out. Quite a few of us gals have. Yoga pants are my friend right now. :)

  • Oh yes, totally bloat. I know there's no way something pea sized could make me look so big already, but it just kind of freaked me out since my last 2 pregnancies didn't have the baby bloat bump this fast. Glad I'm not crazy.

ETA:  Well, I guess one of my kiddos was trying to answer for me.  Considerate, no?  I guess to answer the question, I purchased some lovely drawstring shorts from the GAP this summer and have been wearing them, but the bloat came early this time and is uncomfortable.  The problem is that I was trying to be a good friend and I loaned out some of my maternity pants.  I'm going to need to get them back soon...

  • I've been wearing maternity pants off and on for the past week. I'm 7 weeks today and this is my 2nd child. Most maternity shirts are still huge but I've worn one or two under cardigans.
  • I'm 8.5 weeks with #3 and I'm slowly switching over to maternity pants, not so much tops yet. I just feel really full and bloated and sometimes my pants make my lower abs ache, just the way they sit I'm thinking. If rather be comfortable in maternity pants then uncomfortable in regular pants, maternity pants just make me look more pregnant then I actually am.
  • Not fully yet but I've pulled out the maternity pants for the hugely bloated days. the bloat this time is ridiculous. This would be my third take home baby and not enough fingers for pregnancy number so maybe that's why.

  • This is my fourth pregnancy. The bloat is usually only bad in the evening. For work i wear scrubs, so they are adjustable. I am wearing a pair of maternity yoga, but i actually never stopped wearing them from my last pregnancy 2 years ago. They are so comfortable!

    Were you a surrogate?
  • I get super sensitive to pressure pretty much right away and go straight for the comfortable clothes. The only thing is that maternity tops look silly but some of my maternity pants need something long to hide the top of them. Managing to get dressed practically deserves a nap by the time I get done!
  • Yep! I'll be seven weeks tomorrow and been wearing maternity clothes for the past week. I'm pregnant with my forth, I could probably squeeze into my normal clothes but I would rather be comfortable haha.

  • I'm not yet, this is my third. I got rid of a lot of maternity stuff though so maybe that's why I haven't attempted ;)
  • I'm 6weeks, 4days and am so bloated. I did just have my 1st LO this past NYE though. I think I was skinny for a month before I got pregnant again :)

All of my maternity clothes are packed away because we're moving in a few weeks. Hopefully I can hold off until 10weeks!
  • This is my second pregnancy, and I'm in yoga pants/maternity pants at 8 weeks. My regular ones just aren't comfortable anymore!

  • Not maternity but definitely the bigger sized pants in my drawer. I really just can't wait for the full on belly. I hate the bloat stage and then when you start to get your bump. You don't look preggers at these times just fat! The belly brings it's own set issues but it's clear you are preggers not fat.

  • This is my second and I'm 7w2d. The bloat is unbelievable this time, probably mostly because I've also got a little paunch leftover from my first that I just couldn't get rid of so it looks worse this time around. I can't bring myself to bust out the maternity pants yet but I am wearing my regular pants, unbuttoned, and held with a hair tie for now.

  • Between progesterone, Prednisone, this being my 2nd twin pregnancy, and also being only 5'2" I basically look and feel like a whale at about 2 seconds pregnant :) Planning on getting out the maternity pants this weekend. I will stick with loose tops for the next little bit because as soon as I start wearing maternity shirts it will essentially be announcing since most of my maternity shirts are stretchy and not loose. It is so much harder to conceal a pregnancy or rather, epic bloat associated with pregnancy this time of year than in the fall/winter when big sweatshirts and sweaters are my friend!

  • Definitely in maternity underwear and bigger bras, until we get out of temporary living (2 months) I will rock yoga pants and sundresses most of the time. Totally using the elastic band trick for my buttoned pants!

  • I definitely bloated much faster this time!  I've been called out by 3 people now because I'm suddenly fatter in the middle.  Not a lot of reasons to look like you gained 10 lbs in a week all in the stomach.

  • At work I have to wear jeans with a belt and shirt tucke in. I worked last night and felt like a muffin exploding out of a tin pan. Or like when you pop a roll of crescent rolls and they ooze out. That's how I feel. Not sure what I'll do once I wear maternity since there aren't any belt loops in my pants and I can't tuck it in.

  • My pants were way too tight yesterday. I can't believe how bloated I am already, I did not feel this way the first time. Good thing I never got around to putting away the maternity clothes from my first pregnancy! (Lazy can be good sometimes!)
  • I actually looked up why you show more with second, third, etc pregnancies and yes it is partly bloat, but it is also due to the fact your uterus doesn't shrink back to its regular size and stretches more quickly. I think this sounds way better than I'm just bloating a ton:)
  • This is my second and I'm only 8weeks but so beyond bloated. I thought it was just me but I already look like 3-4 months
  • After visiting with my mom she told me I look obviously pregnant already this time around and that if I don't want to spread the word the next two weeks I better start wearing very loose fitting clothes.

This scares me slightly, I outgrew my maternity shirts last time!
  • Me too!!! I was scared I was having twins again! Thank God there was only when I did my sono! With my 1st one I didn't show until 8 months!! With my twins I didn't show until 5 months! And with this one....5 weeks I started showing.

I have noticed that, with each pregnancy, the amount of time I can wear my usual pants comfortably gets shorter and shorter. This is my 4th pregnancy. Only a couple pairs of my jeans do not fit too snugly at the waist - especially when I curl up on my favorite chair. I don't think it's "showing", by any means. More likely my abdominal muscles are just looser than they were before. I commend those who can get their bellies back to pre-baby shape, but I never really could. I have awful stretch marks from my first pregnancy. They go up past my naval. So, looser muscles and factor on sluggish digestion (bloat) and you get a bigger belly sooner.
  • 2nd pregnancy, 7wks 2days and SOO bloated. Mostly just wearing comfy clothes at the moment, but maternity pants will likely be my best friend when I get back into school. Still gotta hide it another few weeks. Bah.

  • Second pregnancy for me- will probably start wearing maternity pants in the next couple weeks too! I already look pregnant, and think we'll have to spill the beans widely soon before everyone figures it out on their own ;-)

  • This is my second pregnancy, and I don't care what's causing this massive belly, bloat or fat, but I'm wearing my pants unbuttoned with a hair tie or wearing my larger pants, and I've brought out my maternity tops from last time and started wearing them. I'm just more comfortable with bigger/longer shirts that don't just make me look huge.
  • I haven't packed away all of my maternity yoga pants from my last pregnancy (dd 9.5months) but I feel so much more bloated this time around. I hadn't lost all the baby weight from last time, so I'm rocking my one-size larger shorts until they start getting too tight too! I was in mat pants around 13weeks last time, and mat tops around 23wks.
