Should have been discussed prior to getting pregnant...

I mean, my DH and I talked about religious preferences, school preferences, discipline/reward preferences, and other trivial things like that. But I am realizing now we missed the important discussions.  Mayo or Miracle Whip? Wheat or White bread? A simple sandwich discussion in the car turned into a "This kid will love Miracle Whip!" "No, this kid will not!" argument.

Okay, argument is a strong word. There were raised voices but there were also smiles. But still, this united parenting thing might be hard...

  • Oh yes, we had a ketchup vs mustard on burgers convo at one point.  Much to my dismay, DS prefers mustard.

  • Fortunately, hubby and I like the same kinds of foods, I.e. wheat over white bread, we both like ketchup and mustard on a burger, and he's the only one who likes mayo. So we have both decided that we are going to let our child choose what he/she likes and doesn't like. Hubby and I are both Wiccan, but if our child wants to believe in something else, they can go for it. We aren't picky, and have the same views on discipline and parenting, so I think we'll be ok in that department.

  • I'm cracking up!!! My H and my fight is about the damn name! seriously? It starts a real argument! and we don't even know what we are having!!! I told him he doesn't have to sign the birth certificate, we're married, i'll just name her (because I swear that's what we are having) Ansley and fill out the birth certificate when he is not there! My argument is we have 2 other boys together. He named our last son, I agreed with the ugly name only because he loved it so much, I should get what I want this time right? lol

  • Look. I'll buy the dang miracle whip because my husband asks for nothing. But so help me God, the child will use my jar of mayonnaise or I will turn this car around!

Haha but seriously we eat pretty similarly (DH had to get with the program a bit since I do all the shopping) and if Baby IC wants to be like dad and eat that swill then so be it. I just hope they aren't too picky about everything else!!

  • Me and bf have the same food likes and dislikes for the most part he is picky about stuff I wouldn't think twice about. Also I love onions with almost everything he does not but I wouldn't mind if my baby shared his daddy's taste. I tend to mix my food like put my broccoli with mac n cheese or put cream and cheese on my black beans and he absolutely hates it. Its more the way we eat than what we eat that sets us apart. I would like to say since ill be home cooking and eating with the kids they might develop my eating habitats but that's not a guarantee. My mom was the one that cooked for us dinner and right after dinner we would get our milk and bread and just dunk the bread in there.she would have a panick attack but we told her that's how dad does it and thats how we like it lol
  • My DH is a very picky eater! But he already knows that what I say goes when it comes time to feeding baby food! I want to make sure my child likes their fruit and veggies! My husband eats only potatoes and corn when I comes to veggies! Lol but my DH likes mayo over miracle whip and I grew up on miracle whip! I think mayo is to salty!
  • I love cheese... DH HATES it! When Im craving something cheesy, he gets very upset and says his son DOES NOT LIKE CHEESE.

    whatever man... lol

  • I agree with @musicgirl524 and @chickyclg‌ HOW IN HELL DO YOU LOVE SOMEONE WHO HATES CHEESE AND IS A RAVENS FAN. Your DH is like the exact opposite of me. Lol

There have been a couple of times something cheesy has made me sick, DH insists that his child will LOVE CHEESE! He can't imagine a child of ours not eating all cheese like we do.
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • Also, who the hell doesn't like cheese?! I would get a queso IV if it existed.
You and me both... things like Mac & cheese, lasagna, queso, even a pack of cheese... are rare in my house. Unless I can get single serving sizes, because a lot of times it will go to waste.

  • This post made me laugh - very cute. My DH apparently has no taste buds because he doesn't know the difference between mayo and miracle whip.... He'll eat or drink whatever I buy. Lol

Me thinks you need to go back and reread the OP

And on that note mayo for lyfe. I pretty much will eat all condiments except miracle whip because that stuff is nasty.
Love is like infinity: You can't have more or less infinity, and you can't compare two things to see if they're "equally infinite." Infinity just is, and that's the way I think love is, too.

  • Maybe a fffc but I LOVE miracle whip. Especially on really good (read:not hot house) tomatoes. I can eat it everyday. Lol

  • My SO pretty much eats whatever I do, so we're all good. I do, however, have Celiac Disease so I have to be gluten-free, but I'm not going to deprive my kids of foods I can't have (unless they end up with it too).

And despite lactose intolerance too, cheese will always be an important part of my diet. Yay for Lactaid!
  • DH keeps (kindof) joking about naming the kid from Game of Thrones. I'm pretty sure he knows thats a losing battle but there is a part of me that fears he thinks he is serious.

DH hates yellow mustard, which I love. Whenever we go to my in laws house, I have to bring my own yellow mustard because they ALWAYS eat deli meat sandwiches for dinner at least one night and they NEVER have had yellow mustard in the house.

  • We are from Chicago, so no ketchup for us. BUT have gotten into it semi-seriously about which University the baby will be a fan of: Arizona or UCONN.

I have 3 degrees from UofA (therefore, a ton of student loans) and he only has 1 from UCONN (but no student loans).

We have seriously discussed letting the baby be a fan of Boise State (because it is random and conference neutral)...
No, obviously UConn @chickenhawke. Don't rob your child of the utter JOY of being a Huskies fan. We're the best.

Can I ask which name he's joking about? Our girl's name is actually from a minor character from the show/books that honestly I can't expect anyone to put the connection together.

UCONN UCONN UCONN!! I didn't even go to uconn (got my MBA from Syracuse), lol... But born and raised in CT so have been a die hard fan of the huskies since high school! Let the baby be a husky fan!!
  • Toilet paper. How does the roll go and what brand? We should have discussed that before we got married. This is an ongoing debate in my home.

  • So... Here are the 2 things that cause a stir with my boyfriend and I:
    1. Pork - I don't eat pork, he does. I would rather my child not eat pork either, but we ultimately agreed to let her decide when she gets old enough
    2. Giants vs Cowgirls - As a Giants fan, I seriously cannot stand the Cowgirls. So we go back and forth on this (who's team is the baby going to be a fan of). It's honestly best if she doesn't like football or picks a different team altogether!

Yes!!!! He always puts it on the wrong way when he changes the roll and then I have to change it again. What kind of person wants it rolling from underneath?!?! (does that make sense lol)

  • My husband and I argue about maple syrup and peanut butter. He grew up on Mrs. Butterworths and I grew up using real maple syrup. He thinks real maple syrup is gross, I don't get it.

He loves Jif and I grew up on Adams.
  • My husband and I talked about this prior to getting pregnant and the only solution we've been able to agree on is let our child decide for themself. We agree to let them try any foods they want and if they hate them, ok; if not, even better!

I grew up in a family who loves onions, but when I reached my late teens, I found I became very ill from them so I quit eating them all together. But I will absolutely encourage my child to at least try them!
  • We believe in the How I Met Your Mother philosophy, I don't like olives but he does.. so he eats my olives .. thats win win!

  • dacora Pretty much any name.  We have 4 or 5 letters we will be picking names from based on family members who have passed away.  My mom was dropping hints the other day about naming after her mom so we were talking about boy names that start with H.  He jumps in with HODOR!!! So yeah....

There are some GOT names I do like even of the main characters, like Arya.
  • @lalans Oh, gotcha. I wasn't sure if he had one in particular he liked. :) Hodor would be an awful name for a child, lol!

Love it! Can't say I remember who she was in the books, though. :( I can only think of Romeo and Juliet when I see that name, even though it's spelled differently in the play.

It's Edmure Tully's wife, Roslin Frey. We really haven't seem too much of her in the books, but I like her. And I really love the name.
