Snoring

Hey ladies! Apparently I am now a snorer. Yup! My poor husband wakes up from it many times a night and last night it was loud enough that he gave me the bed and went to the guest room in the middle of the night. I think I snored a little before this pregnancy but this pregnancy he has said it is a nightly thing.

I read that sleeping on your side helps which is what I do but anything else that you ladies have done that helps? Breathe Right strips maybe? I am a mouth breather and I know that's not good. I know there can also be some serious complications to heavy snoring like breathing problems etc. I will definitely bring it up to my doctor but wondering if anything works or I'm doomed to follow in my mom's snoring footsteps? Thanks!!

Re: Snoring

  • My DH is a snorer.  It may be random, but one thing I've noticed is that he snores much worse on nights when he eats dairy (ice cream or milk, especially) close-ish to bed.

  • Breathe right strips generally help. If it wasn't a problem much before, it could be connected to swollen nasal passages, which happens during pregnancy. If you are worried about potential complications and issue, you can talk to your proivder about it.

I tend to snore if I am in a deep hard sleep. Have no idea why.

Sorry your husband is waking up to it. My husband is a snorer as is my son. And my dog. Sometimes traveling can be so much fun to have 3 snorers in the room!
  • My DH said I have started to snore too. He says it's not loud. Coming from a family of snorers. I notice they snore the loudest when they are really tired. Maybe a humidifier will help.

  • I started too sometime during 2nd tri.  H has some sleeping issues to begin with so I feel bad about it.  I've tried propping up my head a little more than usual, I asked him if he wanted me to try breathe right strips but he said no don't worry about it, so for now I just prop up my pillows a bit.  Like PP said I did read that a humidifier might help a little.

The strips didn't do anything for me. DH and I just sleep in different rooms when he is home now. I've also tried sleeping on my side, making the room colder/warmer, taking allergy meds....Nothing has worked for me but I hope you can find something.

  • Thanks ladies! Was definitely feeling guilty about waking him up and will try some remedies but I guess it is what it is. The weight gain with pregnancy perhaps contributes too.
  • My DH is a snorer. For him, losing weight has really helped (he lost 14lbs recently). I know that's not an option for you… haha. But also, if he does snore, which now is thankfully not every night, I'll ask him to put on a Breathe Right strip. In my experience, they take a snore down to heavy breathing. He's tried the Breathe Right brand regular & extra strength, Target brand, Walgreens brand, and maybe a couple others. He likes Walgreens brand best because they don't leave a mark on his nose.

Also, he is more likely to snore if he's on his back, so sometimes just me poking him & asking him to roll over to his side or stomach will stop the snoring.

When all else fails, I put in ear plugs. I'm SO glad he's lost weight and doesn't snore as much now. When he was heavier I used to have to wear them every single night. And I don't want to have to do that when I'm also responsible for breastfeeding our newborn! There's NO WAY I'd ever get any sleep with his snoring every night.

  • I started snoring after I hit the second tri. One of the many glamorous parts of pregnancy. Sleeping with my head elevated helps a little. I think we just have to accept it until baby shows up.
  • I'm snoring to! Must be a mouth wide open snorer. I actually wake myself up.

  • DH hasn't said anything to me yet, but I know I snored during my 3rd tri with DS. No great suggestions but after delivery and body started returning to normal I stopped snoring.

  • DH says I've been snoring since the beginning of my pregnancy. He has no shame and will wake me up when I get too loud. I tell him to deal with it and go back to sleep. Lol He also likes to take a video too.

  • Well night one of nasal strips seems to have been a success. I just bought the CVS brand and my husband said he didn't hear me at all. Obviously it could have just been a lucky night for him haha but I will try it again tonight.

Haha that's hilarious about the video! My husband always says he is going to. My dad once did it to my mom and she was shocked how loud she was haha.
