Did you need a size larger later in pregnancy?

So I ordered some maternity clothes at Zulily, most of which are great!  I ordered one pair of leggings (that I am pretty sure were not maternity despite the tag and receipt), a pair of jeans, and a bunch of tops.  I really loved almost everything, and the deals are pretty good.  My question is for STMs.  Did you find that you had to go a size up for later in your pregnancy?  I ordered and have been wearing XL pants and shirts and would like to get more but don't want to purchase too much stuff I won't fit into later into my pregnancy.

Sorry if something like this has been asked already!  I searched but only found clothing recommendations.

  • I didn't with my first pregnancy and my belly was huge. I just bought the suggested size for my pre pregnancy size and was ok.

  • I was the same maternity size through my entire pregnancy. And my bump got HUGE!!

  • I didn't with my first, in fact a pair of jeans that I got in a larger size were baggy and I never grew into them like I thought I might.
  • I needed a bigger size in everything last time. I'm not kidding...even shoes and socks. I think this is going to be an "everybody is different" thing. Personally, I would buy as you go.

  • I just made sure not to buy anything that was already tight fitting (leggings the exception) and everything fit just fine throughout my whole pregnancy. There were a couple of shirts that got shorter than I would have liked the last couple of weeks but that's it.

  • I should have gone a size larger for pants. My ass expanded just as much as my belly.
  • I outgrew my maternity jeans and shorts in the last 3 weeks. At that point I had stopped working so I wore dh's shorts (jersey shorts) and his tee's. It was summer so I got away with it

  • Most every shirt I had got too short towards the end, so I had to buy a couple more shirts (not necessarily a bigger size, but sometimes just a different style will be longer).  Belly bands and long tank tops can also come in handy to help keep covered when that starts to happen.

  • I did with my first, but that's because I gained more than double what I should have. I stayed in the same size for my second when I gained half as much. It also depends on how snug they fit now. Some of the more fitted items may still need to be sized up.
  • I did not with my son. I wear a large normally and bought large maternity clothes.
  • Yes. I was medium in the beginning and large by the end. My hips expanded and my thighs and boobs got huge.
  • I did not, but I was sick the entire time
    And only gained 7 pounds.

  • Well I just got back from Kohls.  I mainly went to get some larger bras...hello boobs...and some bigger underwear..and hello ass...  I also checked out their maternity section, which is small, but I found some nice work stuff.  I found a great pair of work pants that are stretchy EVERYWHERE!!  amaz-balls.  I suppose I could always wear yoga pants to school if my pants stop fitting me... ;)

  • Everybody is different. I'm still comfortable in my regular clothes for instance. I buy stretchy lululemon and Aritzia clothes (tights, long tops, and sweaters) in one size up from normal in lieu of maternity clothes (haven't yet this time) and then the only actual maternity things i need are few. Like holiday dresses, pretty much. I really only felt massive at the very end the last two times. But we'll see!
  • I did! Last pregnancy I went crazy buying the xsmalls (because xs is always on sales racks) I fit in the second trimester, only to have to up size. But my last baby was born in July and most of the growth was water retention. I would find a size that fits now with some give (particularly with maternity jeans).
  • My maternity size stayed the same throughout my entire first pregnancy.

With my first i just made sure that i got what was recommended by the sales assoc. it expanded enough to fit my watermelon of a belly. Although i admit most of the clothes were stretch dresses that could really accomodate expanding bellies.
Anyway for baby #2, since i am now 20lbs heavier that my baby#1 prepreg weight, i could no longer fit into some of the pants i bought for pregnancy #1 upon hitting my third month of PG. The dresses though are still very usable and i still feel sexy wearing them.
So my advice is, maybe if ur comfy with stretchy dresses then go for atuff like that coz itll last u thru the whole pregnancy and chances are u can still use it for ur next one. GL and happy shopping.

i love you, my little mooncake mahal kita

  • I grew out of some of my maternity clothes last time. My shirts were all too short at the end, so I got a few shirts that were a different style and a size larger. I grew out of a few dresses, too. It was mostly that my tummy just got too big!

  • I think it depends on how you carry. My belly typically doesn't grow, but my pelvis expands. My first pair of maternity pants were in my normal size, 2. Towards the end, I was in an 8 and mostly yoga type pants. The 8 pants fit my hips but were huge in the waist and kept falling down. My "bump" was always easily concealed with a sweatshirt.

  • I wore smalls through most of my pregnancy but the last month and a half I had to go up to medium jeans because the smalls were too tight around the bump. My work pants fit fine the whole way through. I think the jeans just don't stretch as much. Also, some tops did get too tight.

  • I didn't buy a lot of maternity clothes with the exception of a few pairs of jeans, a pair of shorts, and 2 pairs of pants. I had summer babies so I was able to get by with stretchier clothing since I was a teacher I had off the last month of both mine. In my experience, I didn't grow out of mine for either pregnancy however with dd I gained weight everywhere whereas ds I seriously was only belly, but by things that have a little give simply for the fact that you want to be comfortable.

  • Only the full-panel pants fit me at the end, and some of my shirts were too short, but going up a size wouldn't have really helped with either of those I don't think.

My ass and hips grew too much. My pants didn't fit toward the end. But if you don't carry in your hips as much as I do, you should be ok.

  • I did go up a size(from M to L) but I also gained 60lbs from overeating by the time it was all said and done.
