Dry skin?

Hey friendos! I've noticed lately some pretty dry skin on my face (it's so dry it's itchy). I know everyone's skin chemistry is different but I was wondering if anyone has the same issue and found a good lotion/solution/magic spell that seems to work/is safe on pregnant mommy skin?

I'm willing to try whatever. I've just been using Ponds and it ain't doing the trick any more.

Re: Dry skin?

  • I have combo/dry skin and have found that I need to be careful about my cleanser (I use Cetaphil).  I use Mary Kay's daytime moisturizer with SPF (it is Timewise something- no idea exactly what!) and their intensive moisturizer for dry skin at night (it is pink and comes in a jar).

Another thing to look into is the oil cleansing method.  I haven't tried it, but have a few friends who swear by it.  Basically, you wash with a mixture of a few kinds of oil and supposedly it leads to awesome skin.  I think you can find it on Pinterest or just google oil cleansing method.

I have very sensitive and dry skin and have recently started using products from Chagrin Valley Soap and Salve. They are all natural products, handmade, and they have saved my skin this pregnancy. I highly recommend them. Right now I switch between using the citrus facial scrub and the buttercream facial cleansing product, both of which are extremely gentle and moisturizing. After I cleanse my face I use the whipped shea butter for extra moisture. It looks a little shiny at first, but after 10 minutes or so it absorbs more and my skin feels and looks so soft and healthy. They have lots of products and they offer sample sizes in almost all of them so you can order a smaller size to try before you figure out which one works best for your skin. Also, I have always just chosen the standard shipping charge and I always get my stuff the next day.

I second the Mary Kay moisturizer. It's not overly expensive and lasts forever. I'm an Esthetician and have used it for years! I have tried so many different brands, and always go back to this one!

  • Oil of Olay products are good for me--I have sensitive skin too so the harsher products like neutrogena don't work for me. Aveeno stuff is always good too. I use their 24 hour moisture for my body and it's been awesome. Sometimes I use a tinted moisturizer for my face. Some of them smell or are just irritating to my skin (Laura mercier). Super goop is a great product that also has SPF in it.
  • Coconut oil is the cure for everything skin related...I'm a fan.

I oil up my belly to prevent stretch marks and the little bit that remains on my hands goes on my face. Surprisingly, it helps with both dry and broken out skin.

  • I've never heard of oil cleansing. I use almond oil on my body and always wash my hands before I touch my face because I'm so afraid of another breakout.

We shall see how my skin reacts...

    Thanks all! So many options!

  • I've had really bad dry skin. Especially where my glasses touch. I broke down and bought Clinique's night time moisturizer and it has helped A LOT.
