I've been a long time smoker and was raised by long time smokers, and I am all for legalizing it etc... Personally I quit the same day I stopped taking birth control. I wouldn't even smoke while TTC. I understand the many benefits, I have chronic insomnia and migraines, and are there some days when I would love to have it? Sure. But my priority is the little life inside me, anything that alters my body chemistry like that can't be good for him.
Remember that "my friend said her baby was fine" is not evidence, it's anecdote. I would NEVER make serious medical decisions for my child based on "my friend said it was fine".
This. It drives me bananas how often people say this - my friend smoked cigarettes during her pregnancy and her baby was fine, or I ate sushi all during my pregnancy and was fine, etc.
One person's experience doesn't prove that something is safe or not. Even a few people's experiences aren't enough.
It's like saying - well, my friend got in a car accident and she was fine. That tells us diddly squat about how dangerous driving is.

Well I'm sure glad you could start your idiotic question post with how crazy d14 is, you sure are sweet. Then came the comment that you were expecting drama. Honestly the last crazies were at least naive enough to play dumb like they were shocked at what they got themselves into. Even your MUD was boring and you tried so hard. Next!
D14 November Siggy Challenge: The feels of 3rd trimester...
I was actually reading an article the other day about how MINIMAL marijuana use during pregnancy has proven to be helpful to mommas who have a lot of issues with morning sickness throughout their pregnancy. It not only helps the nausea, but also increases appetite for those who are having food aversion issues and appears to have no adverse affects on baby. I'll have to track down the article again. Again, Minimal use. I mean hey, they say small amounts of certain alcohol now and again throughout your pregnancy may actually be beneficial. Maybe in a few years there will be more studies done that prove the same about pot. All in all, it's your child, your choice. No judgment from me.
I'm down with pot for the most part- it should be legal, I like it, all that stuff. But when you're pregnant? With not a whole lot of research on the effects....and knowing that smoking anything at all isn't good for the baby? Nah man, you can lay off for 9 months. It's not addictive, and if you can't. then you have some weird psychological addiction working.
If it's for medical purposes, then I say trust the doctor- I don't have a medical degree, I don't know anyones history, and I certainly wouldn't judge someone for following their doc's recommendations provided there was a sound reason behind it...I'm pretty sure pregnant women are prescribed medicines that have worse effects than marijuana.
How many times do we have to have this conversation. While I happen to think that alcohol and MJ are both drugs (because they technically are, remember DARE class) and should be avoided during pregnancy, I'm more offended that the OP thinks D14 is full of a bunch of crazies. Pot calling kettle black perhaps?!
I'm sad I missed the fun on this one.
Edited to add: https://www.nofas.org/light-drinking/ Hopefully, this link works because I'm so over this argument. Technically, other drugs are safer than alcohol. So, do as you please, I suppose. Yes, there are some studies that claim small amounts of alcohol are okay in pregnancy, but not enough for any organization to "okay" it. There are more studies that show a negative impact. I think we can all do as we please in pregnancy, but to pretend that the alcohol/drugs don't pass through the baby isn't a good idea because it simply isn't true.

I feel like there was just a thread about the need for better MUD on this board. At least she tried to make something spicy! In any case, to each their own. I'm all for legalization, but that doesn't mean it's safe while pregnant. I'm the type of person who won't take any medications while pregnant unless absolutely necessary. I self medicate with food right now.
@rshamos I definitely asked for it yesterday but I wanted the good stuff, not the boring attempt at drama. It's like that show they did with Whitney Port (I think it was called the City) after Laguna Beach and The Hills.

This was the worst trolling attempt ever...troll asks stupid question trying to start drama and quickly gets shut down by woman clearly intellectually superior to her.
And while this has been well covered, yes, alcohol and marijuana are both technically drugs. But so is Tylenol as was already pointed out. The difference is the amount of research that has been done on each to clearly document risk vs benefit of each and at what dosage. It's up to each individual to do their own research, discuss their options with their doctor and make their own decisions about what they are comfortable with.
I have yet to find compelling research that shows that small amounts of alcohol use during pregnancy cause birth defects. But by all means, if someone knows of one, please link here. My doctor's stance was that while there was little to no research linking low level alcohol use during pregnancy with poor outcomes that it was impossible to recommend an amount that would be safe for all women due to a number of variables. So it's simply safer to say none.
I linked 3 above at how the effects of small amounts of alcohol consumption affects a baby. I'm not comfortable with any of the conclusions in the studies, so I make the choice to abstain. Others may feel differently, and it's their right, but after spending triple my mortgage just to get pregnant this time, I'm not chancing a darn thing. If I can do IF treatments for 10 years, I can give up alcohol for a measly 9 months! Piece of cake! Trust me when I say that I'll be having my favorite beer right after I deliver

Call me uneducated because when it comes to drugs and pregnancy, I admit I'm no expert. I'm a FTM and I've only tried marijuana twice (in high school). But I always thought, "Whatever you eat, baby eats. Whatever you drink, baby drinks." So, (and this is a SERIOUS question).....Is there such a thing as "whatever you smoke, baby smokes."
I'm from Colorado and 99% of my friends smoke marijuana...and a lot of it. And even they don't suggest that I smoke while pregnant (not that I would anyways)
P.S. I'm not trying to start an argument or drama or anything like that.
@Slaps that comment reminded me to add that my friends won't even risk smoking around me. (One of the main reasons I always stay at home is because I know that everyone will be smoking.)
Wait wait wait. So basically this is a post specifically to call D14 crazy, say I'm a dick for have 2 glasses of wine in the last 22 weeks and toss in there that we might as well just smoke weed because this is a bunch of assholes who are trying to harm our babies? Is that right? Did I miss anything? So glad you took the time to come out of the woodwork and finally post...
....unless this is one of you bishes who is trying to make my day after my "disappointed disappointed" post. If so, kudos.
So when I throw my own sprinkle demanding 2 changing tables after worshiping my husband, I shouldn't offer pot brownies and vodka? Geeze there's so many pregnant rules I still don't know yet.

@taryn0527 Smoking anything is harmful to your lungs - and thus harmful to baby. Your baby "breathes whatever you breathe" so to speak. Any pollutants in the air that can harm your developing baby or limit baby's access to oxygen should be avoided as much as possible, IMHO.
In memory of the baby Hufflepuff and all the angel babies of D14
First off I have been primarily a spectator in this forum or I guess from what I have read a "lurker". I read a post below about the women in this group being crazy and I would have to agree, but it is entertaining at night when I cannot sleep.
So here's a topic I read about in a different thread, I don't think we have yet to discuss this. Btw I'm 25-26 weeks pregnant with my first baby, team green and due dec 4th.
I want to hear some educated opinions on if you think medical marijuana is bad for a pregnant women?
I know first hand from close friends, my family and myself (whom mother used medical marijuana when I was in her belly) that it has has no adverse effect on their children. I live in a area that medical marijuana is used to treat chronic illness so their are plenty of stories to prove my case. I just still want to hear your guys view.
Also maybe a comparison of alcohol compared to marijuana in your opinion. I don't drink and wouldn't while I was pregnant, but am actually amazed at some of the threads I have read on how many dec 14 mothers do..
Hold up.
You spend your nights lurking here, reading about us, because you're bored, and WE'RE THE CRAZY ONES?
