stomach scars changing during pregnancy

Hi all! So I have two small scars from a laparoscopy on my lower abdomen, one by each hip. I also have a long scar from a childhood surgery that stretches from one side of my ribcage at the top of my abdomen to down by my belly button. The laparoscopy scars are much newer (from earlier this year) but until the past month or so they were beginning to fade from red to a white-ish beige, like my larger scar from childhood. Lately though as my bump has started to make an appearance I've noticed that the laparoscopy scars are getting redder and more prominent. They hadn't totally faded yet to begin with, and now I'm a little nervous about the effect my pregnancy will have on them. They're not in a place where I really expected them to "stretch" or anything (if scars even do that during pregnancy), as they're quite close to my hips, but the color changing has been really weird. I guess my larger scar may do some goofy stretching or something as my tummy gets bigger since it extends across half of my stomach, but I don't really know what to expect.

Does anyone else have abdominal scars from pre-pregnancy that are doing goofy things? Any experience from a previous pregnancy? Thanks in advance!

  • I have the same scars you do. I'm getting stretch marks right on top of them.

  • I also have laparoscopy scars (from last August), but they haven't changed at all. They're almost invisible. I haven't grown very much yet, so maybe it will still happen.

  • I too have a c section incision and it's starting to look weird. It was previously slightly keloid and it's flattening.

  • I have a scar just under my ribcage from a mole removal, and my last pregnancy it stretched to about 4 times its typical length (.25 inch). It went back after pregnancy, but I'm fully expecting it to do the same again.

  • Hmm okay so it sounds like I made up the scar stretching thing in my crazy brain. I guess I thought since stomach tattoos can do that it might make sense for scars to do the same thing...

  • @srose1005 my scar definitely stretched, so you didn't make it up.

  • @sassquatch‌ yeah that makes sense to me. Scar tissue does some wonky things. None of mine are keloid scars, and I'm just curious about what this pregnancy will do to them. I guess I'll have to wait and see!
