Re: FFFC

  • So my confession is not all that juicy.

Someone who was supposedly my best friend in the world, stood up in my wedding and everything apparently was talking shit on DH and I's relationship to her sister and some of our friends. I found this out from her sister a little over a year ago. Some background is that DH and I didn't live together for a very long time because pilots make shit and I needed to keep a decent paying job in order for both of us to survive. Well she told her sister and everyone that DH was DEFINITELY cheating on me and he definitely had a girl on the side. I guess this was her conclusion because he didn't have the time to come home all that often. Maybe a couple days every 2-3 weeks? Well our feelings were so hurt and I didn't know how to handle it so I just swept it under the rug. Since we don't even live anywhere near them anymore I just thought oh well I guess she's not my friend! My feelings are still really hurt by it because it feels like the one person who isn't supposed to judge me does when I'm not around. So I talk a big game when I give people the advice that they need to put their foot down!
That is really shitty. I probably would have done the same thing. I hate confrontation.
Do you still talk to her and stuff?

Occasionally, but for the most part when I visit home I don't even tell her. I saw her in Feb (didn't even tell her I was pregnant then) and she was at my shower last weekend. Other than that we don't see each other because I decided zero effort from me from now on. Also her sister is a little unbalanced, those two have a really volatile relationship I just felt weird all around. Why did her sister tell me that?! And how do you confront someone about something that comes from their sibling? Just weird.

  • Confession: I never get a flu shot.
I've never gotten the flu and if I had I would've stayed home with it.

    But I will now.
    Don't ya worry.
    I'll get it.
I haven't either! I'm with you though, I will get it this time.

  • I'm not giving my grandma any photos of my daughter once she is born. Nor is she allowed to take any with her camera.

    Making me a massive shit.

She maintains a relationship with family members I consider both dangerous and repulsive. The idea of them seeing photos of my baby makes me ill.

So I'm depriving an old lady of photos of her first great granddaughter. Flame away.

  • My FFFC, I don't watch the news. I don't read news type things online. I don't pick up a newspaper. I'd honestly rather not know!

I justify this in that DH is caught up on the news and will bring really big things to my attention. I also don't vote so I don't feel like my "ignorance" hurts anyone.

I just want to be happy - and spending so much time stressing out over Ebola, Ferguson, or Robin Williams death seems useless for me as there is nothing I can personally do about any of these happenings.

Yikes! If I had more energy I might flame you a bit for this. I am not super up to date on the news/politics, but how can we move forward if people think this way? (And I know a lot do).

Plus you don't vote?!?! Too much...

  • @victoria+james‌ that's me. I used to get all relevant news from Chelsea handler. I though at least knowing about the kardashians was something. :/ and DH is a journalist. And I'm a member of this planet meaning I should know what's going on in it. But I don't feel bad.

I think it is very important that some people are invested in these situations. And in the past I have even tried to be. But I lack passion to do the research on these issues and I would rather not just be another loud voice screaming about something I really know nothing about. It only makes it harder to hear those that do the research and do know what's going on.

I don't vote because I don't educate myself on the issues and it wouldn't be fair of me to. Actually, for a long time I didn't think I could vote because my parents are not legally allowed to and I thought it pertained to me as well. Turns out that's not the case!
  • So, you gals that don't watch the news or keep up with current events...what do you talk about with friends, family, co-workers?

I don't watch the news, but I have them on my FB feeds, so I get highlights. I know enough to have a conversation, but then again, my friends and family don't talk about that shit. They talk about the sale at the mall or something. I do talk about news-worthy things at work, though.

I can't sit down and watch the news straight through, or read a newspaper. But I like to get snippets. If I want to know more, I click around and find articles about it. I feel like I get to control a little more about it that way.

I know enough about Ferguson to know it's effed up, but I haven't read a ton about it, because I really think it's going to be really fucking upsetting. Everyone else is ranting about it on my FB feed and such, and I just. Can't.

  • I think I have the opposite problem of the no news people. I read too much. I read absolutely everything and I honestly don't even watch tv without reading articles on my phone. I just have this desire to learn about everything and it can be very annoying to others. DH gets annoyed because he says he can't bring up stuff to me because I already know about it.

I'll even finish a book I don't like, because I think I might learn something from it.

I write replies to almost every thread I read, but I only post on like 10% of them. I figure the less I say, the less dumb I'll make myself seem. But it doesn't even work! :-< I'm eating chips ahoy cookies for breakfast. I'm disappointed in myself for not having the courage to buy the cream-filled ones...
They have creme filled chocolate chip cookies?  I must add those to my post birth/post GD list of things to eat.

Other comments:  I also have a crush on a co-worker, but more for the fact that he regularly wears a bow tie.  I haven't seen someone wear a bow tie since I finished college (in the South) and it is just brings back great memories.

It took me a while to figure out the lipstick comment - I have only had one dog in my life and that was a female.  Boy cats rarely have that problem.

I have no good confession this week, so sad.

@apk4‌ RE: the car seat discussion: I have a Ford Focus and I actually just Google'd car seats that fit in 2012 Ford Focus and went right to a forum where people were discussing it. And it turns out that the seat we registered for (Graco Snugride 30) was the recommended seat. There were even photos. I'd say if you're not comfortable then suggest she does this after she purchases the car. Like, closer to when she's actually going to HAVE a baby. And in regards to her possibly getting into an accident with it - I'd 100% expect her to replace it and wouldn't be shy about making that known.

@apk4‌ hell no would I let them take the car seat. Sorry what if they got in an accident?! Flame me too haha
Thank you! DH thinks I'm being rude, and I'm not at all. I can't say no, because I've said no to a few other requests recently. I picked out a $90 car seat at Target and I'm going to pick it up on my lunch. I'll let the grandparents keep it or something.
THIS is crazy to me! You bought a whole new car seat because you didn't want someone putting your EMPTY one in a car to see if a seat will fit? WHAAAAAAA? This isn't against you exactly, but I would talk would be SO pissed if asked this favor and someone said no for this reason.

Oops, let me try that again!

I get your point too. I think my feelings on it have to do with outside circumstances. They ask me/us for things a lot- helping them unpack their new house, drive DH's car for free when he wanted to trade it in and stop paying $500/mo, etc.

I'm pretty self sufficient and I would never make such a request. I just want to save our car seat for my baby and I don't want it in a bunch of random cars when my baby isn't even here yet.
  • My husband is a TV news reporter and even I don't stay on top of what's going on in the world. I try, but not everything piques my interest. I know what's going on in Ferguson, but honestly I don't know enough of the nitty gritty details to throw my opinion in the ring on this issue.
My FFFC? I'm a celebrity "news" junkie. I've earned the nickname TMZ in one of our friend circles because I always know so much useless celebrity gossip. This irritates my journalist DH so much.

Confession: I was kind of happy to see @dana2die4 throw out a controversial UO last night. She isn't on the boards often and when she does come here...BAM...drama tends to follow. It was a good discussion (even though I don't know anything about that story)

I'm not saying I agree with her posts, that's not my point, but I'm glad she had the balls to post what she did. That is all.

I agree! A true UO (so rare as of late!). I bet she knew shiz would hit the fan but went ahead and posted anyway. I also don't know enough about the subject to get involved in the argument, but I did learn some things from both sides thanks to that.
  • @Nicb13‌ I agree, it is nice to have a controversial UO open for discussion.

It's just....that chick and I are oil and water.

  • Oh, and about the car seat thing... @apk4‌, I'm totally with you. I can be weird about borrowing out my things, especially if I haven't gotten to use it myself yet. Yes, they aren't putting an actual baby in the car seat, but that's not the point. You want be the first! That being said, I wouldn't have bought a brand new car seat just for this. I would've just said no!
It's my new ILs and it's taken a while for them to accept me and my introvert ways. I say no too much and I don't want them to think it's personal, so that's why I bought one.

My mom wants her own anyway, so it'll work out.

Sometimes, when something funny happens in a thread, I will want to share it with someone, so I'll tell the story (like the BSC Facebook Friend), but say "my friend told me." I don't say that friend is in the computer.
I told Hubz about the crowning photos story from a few months ago (yes, I'm bringing that back!). He thought it was hilarious and wanted to tell all of his friends and family. But he made ME tell the story and in his set up asked me who told me. Dude, don't out my interwebz friends to your family. I can't have them finding my safe zone.
If it is the story I told about the mass email with crowning photos hiding inside please share away! I think if you do something that stupid it is open season and you just have to accept your fate.

  • I'm sad I don't know about the crowning story! What did I miss?
