Induction Gals

Who else has an upcoming induction? Mine is set for next Wednesday evening, August 27 (at almost 42 weeks) due to being post-term. I'm nervous as heck, and thinking maybe we can create a small group of us who are facing possible induction so we can support each other, get excited, get terrified, ask questions, etc.

So, what is your induction date, and what does your doc plan to do? For now, the doc is thinking Cytotec to help me dilate, then Pit the next morning if I need it.

Re: Induction Gals

  • I am due today and I just got back from my appointment. I am not dialated at all and she couldn't even try sweeping my membranes. I am scheduled to go in on the 28th at 4pm. They are going to try and soften my cervix followed by pitocin in the morning.

  • @Venus04‌ -- I'm looking at Friday the 29th!! But at this point my OB said my cervix isn't even ready for induction and she doesn't want to set me up for failure and an emergency c section :( at this point that is my biggest concern :(
In a similar boat. Tentatively planning Friday the 29th when I'm 41+1, but Dr might push back to 42 weeks if I have no cervical changes because I'd be unfavorable still...that is my concern right now too.

Yeah, my cervix is soft and anterior, but not dilated at all. They're going to try the Cytotec and/or Cervadil. I've heard great things about these working for women who don't have a favorable cervix. They insert it the night before, and then usually start Pit the next morning. They come with risks like everything, but I'm going to do everything I can do avoid a c-section. And if it doesn't work, then F my life. Are you completely closed/hard/etc. right now?

  • @vk2204 I'll be going in one day before you, and with the exact same game plan. My doula will be there, and we're hoping if I need the Pit, we can turn it off after a certain point and proceed with my med-free birth plan thereafter. We'll see...

I was checked yesterday at 40.6 and was unfavorable, so my doc pushed me to 41.6 for that exact reason. Praying I at least dilate a touch before induction.

  • It is almost more nervewracking to KNOW when it is going to happen and be able to plan for it. I would much rather it happen spontaneously. I still have a week so my fingers are crossed.

  • @Venus04, I'm also scheduled to be induced next Wed, August 27.   I'll be 41 weeks at that point.  The plan is to arrive at the hospital at 10 p.m. where the nurse will give me Cervadil.. The next morning, by OB will check me and break my water and start Pitocin.  My OB said that most FTMs will have their baby in the evening, so hopefully we'll meet our little guy next Thursday.  I've been reading some of the experiences of other women with induction, and sounds a little scary.  I'm really hoping to go into labor naturally without being induced.  I'm walking more often and did the deed with my husband last night --gave me contractions for about an hour then stopped .  Will keep up both activities and see if it helps things progress.

  • I am scheduled to be induced tonight at 8 but my hospital has been very busy apparently so he said I could possibly get bumped to tomorrow morning. Either way the plan is to start with the foley bulb to help dilate and then pitocin if labor doesn't start on it's own after the catheter is removed/falls out. I'm surprised at how calm I am today. However I usually don't get nervous or excited until something is right on top of me. Then I panic mildly. Anyway, I am happy to be getting this "party" started! Good luck ladies!

  • @Venus04‌ my OB couldn't even reach it it was so far up...and baby's head isn't even engaged. Womp womp
How far along are you now? Are you debating between an induction vs. a planned c-section, because sometimes I find myself going back and forth. I mean, if I'm not favorable, why all the circus feats? Let's just call it what it is and schedule the one hour operation. Ugh. I hate the idea though. Hate it. :(

  • I'm with several others scheduled 8/29 @ 8AM at 40+4. I've read some pretty terrifying stories from others regarding induction, but I've also had friends who have been induced and have never given me any indication that it was such a terrible experience. I'm hoping for the best.

I am in between wanting him to come on his own and waiting until the 29th. I've taken the 28th off work and they are aware that I'll be going in on that Friday AM for the induction. I like that the plan is laid out and we are all on the same page. Though, that is typically when things to awry - so he'll probably end up showing up on his own.

I don't know what the actual induction plan is once I get there. I feel behind the 8 ball on that one now seeing everyone else seems to know the plan.

I'm tentatively scheduled for Monday at 41+3. Just hoping that by some miracle I don't make it. I'm fingertip dilated, 50% effaced and -3 station at last check. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow so I'm very interested to see if there's been any progression. FX!!
    FX for you!

I am glad that my Dr is at least being aware of how favorable I am (I am soft but not dilated), it is better than just drawing a line in the sand. Good point too about the induction being different at 41/42 weeks, that is reassuring to hear. FX for you, and remember all the posts we've seen about people not being dilated/effaced and then going into labor, it's not impossible- at all.

  • I'm also scheduled for induction on the 27th. I have an appointment tomorrow so it may end up being sooner than that, but we will see. I'll also be checked but as of Monday progress wasn't looking great which makes me really nervous. :/

  • Jeez, it looks like almost all of us might be induced next week. It honestly makes me feel a little bit better. We can get through this. :)

  • We're also possibly looking at next Wednesday, the 27th - would be 40+4, definitely nervous! Hopefully LO may decide to make an appearance sooner!
  • I go in at 8pm tonight for induction. I'm currently 3cm dialiated and 70% effaced but not having any time able or regular contractions. I have no doctors on call this weekend from my office and I'm already a week overdue so they would rather induce and deliver me with a doctor who knows me than let me risk going into labor and having to deliver with a doctor I dont know. I'm OK with it, a little nervous, but ready to meet my LO. Good luck to you all- if I remember/have time I'll check back tomorrow and let you all know how it went.
  • I will be 41w on Labor day, I don't think they will schedule an induction for then do you?  I am just trying to plan because given the choice I would rather he be born in August because 9/1 is the school cutoff and I want to have the option to hold him back not be forced to.
  • I went into L&D on Tues. night for blood pressure concerns, my OB happened to be the one on staff that evening, after checking me out she said my cervix was favorable, swept my membranes, and told me to keep my regular appt. today.  Got there today and did and NST, blood pressure is still a bit elevated and we don't want to play with that fire so I will be induced on my due date, which is Sunday.

It was a little freaky to go home with all the paperwork for that, shit just got real!

Ooh, good luck! It sounds like you're ripe for induction, which is great. Do keep us posted!!

I would have been 41w on Labor Day, so they scheduled it for 8/29. The Dr. seemed pretty confident that nothing was going down on Labor Day.
  • Just got back from my 41 week appointment. I'm looking at induction next Tues/Wed, when I'll at 41+4 or 5. The good news is that I'm looking favorable, dilated to 3 and fairly effaced. Hopefully this experience will be different from my last induction, when I was at 0 and 0%.
  • Good luck ladies! I was worried about being induced, but I couldn't have asked for a better experience! We only used pit and that brought on contractions hard and heavy!
  • @Venus04‌ and any other med free doula lovin ladies....if you are induced- will you still bring in your doula and attempt med free with pitocin? What about c section? I am feeling less optimistic, but I already paid soooo.....not sure what she'd even do in the event of a csection
I've read too many birth stories online and I feel like I've read of lots of inductions where a doula was present and/or useful. I think they'd be helpful with coaching, guiding in decision making (if you trust their experience- which I hope so), etc, even if you get meds or an epidural. Honestly, many seem to be good advocates and help make sure your opinions are voiced- and in the event of induction where more inventions may snowball I think I'd want mine there (if I had one).

Personal note- I have different expectations regarding med-free if I end up being induced, but I still want to attempt to go med-free (besides the induction techniques) as long as possible.

  • My due date is tomorrow (Sunday the 24th).  My cervix was still high and closed as of Wednesday morning.  I've had a lot of new back pain yesterday and today, but no timeable contractions.  My doc is out of town until Monday, so I couldn't go in Friday to try a membrane sweep.  I'm scheduled for an induction Tuesday at 5 p.m., but I'm really hoping to get things rolling before then....so I just took some castor oil.  For all you ladies thinking about trying it, I'll update later to tell you if it worked or not.  In the meantime, I'm keeping my fingers crossed!  (If you do try castor oil, I put a little bit of orange juice in a glass, and mixed in two tbsp of castor oil, and had another glass of OJ ready as a chaser.  I drank both glasses with my nose pinched closed the entire time, and never even smelled or tasted any castor oil.  If you decide to try it, I definitely recommend that method.)
  • Got an official induction date! Unless something happens before then I'll be induced on Thursday 8/28, one day shy of 42 weeks. Even though I would strongly prefer to avoid induction, it's really nice to have an end in sight.
  • Good luck ladies!! I was induced at 37 weeks for PIH. I was dilated to 1 and 50% effaced. I started with cervadil the night before. In the morning they started pitocin then broke my water. My little guy was here 10 hours later! I was at 2-3 for 7 hours or so then went from 2-3 to 8 in an hour and a half and from 8 to 10 in 15 minutes. Hoping for smooth deliveries for everyone here!
  • Hi ladies! I just wanted to wish you luck. I was induced 6 hours after my water broke and I had no significant progress towards labor. I don't have a non-pit delivery to compare it to, but it really isn't as bad as some make it out to be! If you have any questions, let me know!

  • Okay, so I'm facing induction tomorrow at five, and I just wanted to say that I feel like I've tried everything.  Castor oil did NOTHING except give me a little bit of gas.  I even tried using a breast pump for nipple stimulation on my due date.  (Five minutes on one breast, ten minute break, then five on the other - for two hours.)  That made me have strong contractions every couple of minutes for about five hours, which led us to L&D.  They said I was still fingertip and sent me home.  I took a nap and the contractions petered out.  We tried pumping again that evening with no results.  I've had a few contractions since then, but nothing to write home about.  My conclusion is that this baby is not coming out until he wants to, or until I get medically induced.  Oh well, at least I tried.
  • I've already had my induction, but I wanted to wish you all luck! I hope all your plans go the way you want. Being over due is frustrating and maddening!

  • Im scheduled for induction this friday 8/29 as well. 3cm dilated and 80%effaced.. Im nervous
  • I am scheduled for induction this Sunday as well. I had a sweep last Friday . No dilated , me nervous too
  • I'm 40 + 3 today. I'm scheduled for an induction this Friday. I've had contractions since Monday but nothing timeable. I'm so tired of trying to figure out if what I'm feeling is the real deal. I'm going to work these last two days and just prepare for Friday. I am already 2cm and 70%. I hope that means I only need a little push to get going on Friday.

  • Today was supposed to be my induction. Crazy. Best wishes to all of you. No matter what happens, baby will come out (usually within 24 hours) and then it's over. You can do it. See you on the other side!

  • @Venus04‌ hope all is well with you and you are recovering. How is your sweet baby doing? Any updates on when she might graduate from the NICU? Hope you are getting loads of support!

Hey! I'm doing okay. Exhausted from the pumping schedule and driving back and forth to the hospital, but what can ya do. Luci is getting better and better every day, and they think she might be able to come home late next week. Thanks for asking!
