So this is an interesting turn of events.
With DS #1, I had horrible morning sickness and heartburn. Despite my best efforts, I didn't get it under control until around 10 weeks. It didn't totally go away until 18 weeks. I lost 10lbs between week 5 - week 10, then slowly got back to my starting pregnancy weight after that. (Don't hate me yet. I made up for it later in the pregnancy).
Now, with baby #2, I am having all the same symptoms. But this time I know how to control them and started as soon as the second line appeared on the HPT. Zantac around the clock. Zofran around the clock. Tums when things are bad. Small frequent meals. Lots of carbs and dairy (which is killing me because I was eating paleo before the pregnancy). The results? The symptoms are controlled AND I already gained 10lbs by 7 weeks. I guess I'll be going back on paleo when the 2nd trimester hits. I also need to workout, but my energy is totally zapped by the time I get home for the day and get the toddler in bed.

Re: 1st trimester nausea, weight loss vs gain
Well....I know how to control it. But "controlling" it means eating high carb foods around the clock.
I think by 18 weeks the last time, I was up maybe 3lbs from my starting weight, but I had to make up the difference from the weight loss too.

And don't get stuck on just the number on the scale.
I have already gained 30lbs as of my 24w appointment BUT my BMI after the gain is still within a healthy normal range for a person who is NOT pregnant (under 24 I think) so why get stressed over that...
If you're eating a mostly nutritious and balanced diet then I would just let it be.
