Long term vacation ideas

My boyfriend and I are undecided about something, so we've decided "to go to the Bump".

As you may remember I'm currently a SAHM, and he's off on parental leave until next April. So we're hoping to do something fun, rather than sit at home staring at each other.  We had originally planned to spend 4-5 months down in Cabo, but are now rethinking it. He's brought up the idea of going RVing across North America, but I think that's insane.

We can rent our house out for approx $2500 a month, which we'll use towards a trip, as well as savings. We also have two 100 pound Golden Retrievers that will be coming along. We are open to going anywhere that would work for our family, but since it's going to be winter we're leaning towards somewhere warm.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Have you ever done a big RV trip, or an extended vacation?

I think an RV could become very close quarters, but unless you could find a house/condo that's dog friendly, it might be your best option.

If it were me, I'd go international -- Germany, Italy, Australia, Spain. But that's not very dog friendly.

ETA I *do* think it's a very cool idea!

  • I think an RV trip could be fun. But, from what I have seen on the CSFTL page, they can be very unsafe for baby.

I am jealous that you get to do an extended vacation! Our vacations are always a week or less, and we normally just visit my family. 12 hours in the car each way leaves us 5 days of a visit.

  • Some other ideas we've had... Maybe Arizona, so we can have a base, but still do some road trips. Somewhere like Florida where we could be near the beach. But maybe too expensive? Alabama?

It is an amazing opportunity, we've waited years for this trip. My bf is on partial pay while on parental leave which helps. If we stay home I'm afraid we're just going to waste the opportunity. It's kind of a once in a life time thing.

I agree @shellbell3845 that an RV is very close quarters. Does anyone remember that tv show where the family travelled around in an RV?

  • What an awesome opportunity!

No help, but it sounds like it could be really neat.
