Hair smell/shampoo

I feel like I am in a never ending battle against smells! It's honestly been the hardest part of my pregnancy so far. Anyway, I've switched around different shampoos from all natural to unscented back to scented and now I'm using baby shampoo because I could tolerate the smell. The only problem now is the baby shampoo doesn't have much of a scent to make my hair smell clean! It might just be my crazy nose, but it makes me gag. Has anyone had issues like this and/or found a solution? The only fragrance I can really tolerate/enjoy is cinnamon roll so I constantly have that candle burning, but it might be a bit much to start using a cinnamon roll flavored shampoo, even if it exists.

Re: Hair smell/shampoo

  • I know Philosophy has a combination shower gel/shampoo/bubble bath concoction in a cinnamon roll scent... Both Sephora and Ulta carry it. Maybe give it a try?

  • I'm having the same problem with shower gel. I' ve tried so many, I've no resorted to a men's one.
  • Have you tried the nine naturals shampoo? I almost ordered it but got busy and never did. Some of the reviews I read said the smell is good with morning sickness. That said, it is expensive.
  • You could try making your own shampoo and just scent it with things you can tolerate. Then you'll be able to control how clean you smell.

  • Usually citrus scent is good for people who can't stomach other smells. Would that work for you? I'm sure there are citrus shampoos. Its worth a try.

  • Herbs, citrus, essential oils, heck even tap water sends my senses over the edge! I never expected the stereotyped "pregnant nose" to be so true, but I REALLY never expected it to be this awful! When I am eating the foods I can tolerate I keep the smells at bay, but when I'm not snacking its like a smell attack. I have been able to manage a bit with popping mints and gum to avoid the smells I'm going to expect but sometimes the shower scenario is just overwhelming! And when I use a more underwhelming product then I don't like my natural smell once my hair dries. Thank you all for the pointers! I was so hoping to be this crunchy, all natural pregnant person but its so hard when you can only tolerate so much! I might go check out ulta's philosophy Cinnamon roll scent. Otherwise I might have to start washing my hair with ice cream and pizza.
  • I always switch my shampoo when I'm pregnant, but it's for the opposite reason. There are just so many amazing smelling shampoos that I want to try them all before my senses go back to normal.

  • Oh, good! I'm not crazy! I've noticed the same thing about my shampoo too! I switched shampoo and I wash my hair twice in a row because my hair doesn't smell clean enough, even though I'm sure it is after the first time! Time for a new shampoo....
  • I can only stand original Herbal Essences right now. Thankfully they make body washes now, too. Our aloe shampoo we were using was bringing me to dry heaves.

    Good luck!

I second the philosophy Cinnamon Roll idea. Also, they have a great pumpkin pie scent for fall should be out soon!

  • I bought the philosophy cinnamon bun shampoo/body wash today so I'll let you all know my thoughts tomorrow!
  • Update- so in the bottle and during use the cinnamon bun shampoo smells great and I can not only stomach it but enjoy it. The only thing is I still experience the same issue with my hair not smelling clean afterwards.

Let me know if you find a solution! I recently cut off like 10 inches of hair because it was becoming too much of a hassle with brushing it out and the smells, but the smell problem is still there! Sigh.
