How do you get a second opinion? Can you?

I'm 34 weeks pregnant. I don't like my OB. I went to a practice who basically shuffled me to their "back up" OB. She rushes every appointment. Doesn't discuss things with me. She doesn't even know my name. Long story short, she advised me that I could have to use general anesthesia for c-section and I want a second opinion. Is there a way to go about this? Can I even get a second opinion?

    Of course you can get a second opinion. Call around and make an appointment with another doctor.

    I switched OBs at around 12 weeks last time.  First OB was also my OBGYN before getting pregnant, and was just really unhappy with the way the office run, and ended up feeling like it was not something I was comfortable with when I was pregnant (like a 2 hour wait and being given 1 word answers to my questions).  So I asked around for some references from others, and switched.  No different than switching doctors at any other time - you just get your records transferred and that's that.

    I switched at 23 weeks (due to a move) and then again at 37 weeks (to a VTOL-friendly doc/hospital).

    My insurance did check for me to make sure there were no restrictions on a late transfer (there were none). I also had a consult with the new office to make sure it was a good fit (for them and me) before I officially transferred my care. That visit may not be necessary, but felt right in my situation.

    I've been thrilled every time I've walked into the new office. Aside from the VBAC possibilities, it feels really good to take charge of your situation when you don't like it.

    Ditto pp's - you are not obligated to stay with a doctor you are not comfortable with.  Have you asked to see another physician in the same practice or have you tried to address you concerns with this doctor?  Also, why is she saying you need general anesthesia - is she just saying the possibility exists or is there a reason?  She's not an anesthesiologist, it's really an anesthesiologist who is best qualified to make the decision as to what kind of anesthesia you would require.  I'd also be very concerned if my OB made such a statement.
