Letting yourself go..

Anyone else just feel like they're letting themselves go? I'm 14 weeks and I don't have the energy to keep up with my appearance lately. I do the bare minimum to look acceptable.. I just don't feel like painting my toes, doing my hair, anything & I was so I to that before..

Re: Letting yourself go..

  • Yup! It's awful. I'm trying to convince myself to at least look presentable so my neighbors don't start feeling sorry for DH lol, but I work from home, so there's just not much motivation.

  • Same here girls don't feel bad! I am stuck in the comfy clothes mode! I just wanna wear my comfy stretch pants and a loose fitting shirt! I so was not like this with my last baby I wanted to be cute and beautiful but this Time I just don't feel it :)
  • Now that I've hit 15 weeks I just now feel like looking decent. My MS was rough until last week. Shaving my legs, makeup for work? Screw it I'll just wear jeans! Was my main thought for awhile...lol
  • I was never really into doing my hair or nails or anything girly like that but I've definitely gotten more lazy about shaving. He doesn't mind as long as it doesn't get to gross lengths.

Also is it weird that I'd really like that cow onesie? I love cows and that just looks comfy. My kid also really likes when I wear my onesie pjs.

  • I'm 16 wks today and for the first time this past weekend I had the energy to wash and style my hair since getting pregnant. Just take it a day at a time and do what you need to make yourself feel great! (Even if that means sweats and a pony tail!)

  • Ever since I became a SAHM my standards have definitely changed. For me, it's important that I feel put together at least once or twice a week. I found that if i put some earrings on and a watch I instantly feel like I at least "tried." I only wear makeup if I'm going out somewhere with a lot of people. Luckily my boss doesn't seem to mind when I hang out all day in shorts and a bra :)

@WanderingA‌ you said it perfectly for me lol make up whaa? Only if its a social event that includes people outside my family lol

This probably should be a fffc but I havent had my hair cut since November. I have a TON of hair and it takes at least 2 hrs to get it done and I feel bad burdening DH with babysitting like that... I always wear it up because henry likes to pull so no one knows... lol

  • I'm pretty basic with my beauty routine. No makeup (maybe I was born with it ;) ... or maybe I'm just lazy), hair still gets done to avoid a frizzy mass. I get my nails and toes done every couple of weeks, but I do it more to gossip with the employees of the nail salon (love them).

Since I didn't put much effort into it to begin with, I feel like things are the same.
Awaiting our bundle of cute chaos.

  • I'm not shaving my legs as much but that's about it. My hair lives in a sloppy bun, I don't own makeup and I only have 1 bottle of nail polish so there wasn't much "letting myself go" to be done here. I do make an effort to slip on a dress most days instead of pajamas though.

  • For once I would like to be the pretty pregnant woman in the room. With my other pregnancies I looked frumpy and unattractive. I want to glow like these darn celebrities while pregnant ! I that too much to ask ? :((

  • I'm finally starting to come out of my exhaustion and I'm starting to get a respectable bump, so this is starting to be happy time for me. I've been existing in comfy clothes and just trying to find a way to lay down, but I can see the light at the end of that tunnel. I love getting dressed cute when I actually look pregnant so I've been having fun with it. No need to feel self conscious about look skinny? Sign me up! I don't go all out just to hang around the house, but if I'm getting out at all I try to feel cute. Looking good makes me feel good. I guess it's just the girly girl in me. I don't want to waste a moment of "your round belly is adorable!!!"

  • Im more worried about letting myself go, re: food.  I just have no self control; I was in really good shape before I got pregnant and now I just feel like everyday is a holiday and I can eat yummy things.  I really need to lock it down!
  • I'm definitely in the "not far to let go" camp to begin with. Half the week I wear sneakers and an unwashed bun, half the week I have makeup and a cute maxi on. So pregnancy hasn't really changed much for me. I AM looking forward to rocking a cute bump--I haven't worn tight shirts in weeks since it's just blumpy and work doesn't know yet.

  • I've never been big on hair or makeup, but I still 'put my eyes on' every day (eyeliner and mascara), and wash my hair every other day.

Showering with a newborn isn't too hard if you get up when your husband gets up and shower before he leaves for work.  Or sometimes I would put the baby in the rocking chair in the bathroom and shower.  I don't think 'I have a baby' is a good reason to be dirty or lazy.

  • I'm right there with you. Every night when I get home from work I say.. I'm going to flat iron my hair.. it hasn't happened in a week lol.
  • @kkleigh10‌ I absolutely love lululemon- and since growing out of my regular pants, if I'm not wearing my one pair of maternity shorts, I'm wearing my Wunder Under pants!

And @sarabell52‌ I'm so jealous of the fact that you can get away without shaving for a few weeks! So so jealous.

First tri, I did the bare minimum just because I was unbelievably exhausted- put a little product in my hair so it dried wavy. Make up consisted of BB cream, a little blush and a coat of mascara. Now that I'm feeling less exhausted and more human, I'm putting in more effort... Actually fixing my hair and back on my make up routine. Although shaving is not as much of a priority unless I'll be wearing shorts... I wear scrub pants and compression stockings at work, so nobody sees my legs anyway lol
  • Is it bad that my first reaction to this is "welcome to parenthood!"? ;)

  • You ladies make me worry! I don't want to let myself go away like that. First trimester was pretty rough and I could not find the energy to even get out of the bed, forget looking good. But, now I think I can find some energy to make myself look a little more presentable.
  • Not letting myself go as much as my appearance tends to reflect how I feel.  Considering I feel like ass, I look it.

Doesn't help that I either work from home or wander around the office in scrub pants and a hospital tee.

I tell DH i'll dress up if he takes me out :)

  • not going to lie... things will NOT improve once you have a newborn.

    Showers start feeling like luxuries.

I haven't gone to the bathroom alone since DD learned how to walk.........And if I want a shower I have to take it before she wakes up. Not sure HOW it's going to be with two!!

  • I work in a corporate office so I have no choice but to get dressed up each weekday. I am one of the lucky ones who has pin straight hair that requires no blow drying or straightening so my hair is easy. I was never good at styling my hair or doing makeup so it's just foundation, bronzer and mascara everyday.

My routine hasn't changed except I'm less motivated to paint my nails. I am ready for a bump because I look like I've gained about 10lbs (really only gained 5) and I feel frumpy.

I've also been lazy about heels. I used to wear them daily and now I just wear flats!
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • I've been gone for years. I have a corporate job, but I work in the creative department, so it kind of goes with the territory. It's jeans and tshirts with runners or flip flops every day. Makeup only happens on special occasions and a big curly ponytail is en everyday thing.

Now, when third tri comes around, that's a whole other level. A good day is when I've managed to tie my shoes ... if I can.

  • I have been considering cutting my hair just for this reason. I have really long hair so it takes about 35-40 minutes to blow dry, then another 25 to straighten. I'm just too tired/unmotivated to spend that amount of time everyday, and I think if I had short hair that I could make look nice in 20 mins I would actually do it!

and here lies the root of the terror that plagues all husbands....  MOM HAIR!

I joke of course, but my DH made me PROMISE when we had DS that I would not cut my hair short and get "mom hair".

  • I cut my hair as soon as I found out I was preggo and made the stylist PROMISE me not to give me "mom hair". She didn't really keep her promise. Boo!

But then I decided what I really really wanted was to be a mom, so I've accepted it and am now loving how much easier it is to do.

As far as letting myself go, I am with you ladies on the food indulgences. It's mentally bothering me when even my loosest non-maternity pants don't fit (and I've gained 11 pounds already... woops!) though I can't seem to keep myself from ice cream and french fries. I'm going to guess my lofty idea of losing weight after the baby is born is a silly joke to all the experienced moms out there! ;-)

So, before I found out I was PG, I wanted to cut my hair.  It was really long and it's thick so it also took 25 - 30 minutes to dry and then another 20 - 25 to straighten.  I didn't cut it at my last pre-pregnancy appointment because my SIL was getting married and I was her MOH, and the style I picked out wouldn't work with straight hair.  My next appointment, I got it cut to my shoulders and shaped around my face.  This is something I do every few years when I get sick of having long hair and feel like it's starting to look bad.  A woman at work actually said, "Oh, is this the mommy haircut?"  I said, "No, this is the I'm tired of having long hair and spending almost an hour fixing it or wearing it up."  Everyone else has assured me I don't have mom hair, but I'm self conscious about it now and will be letting it grow out!

  • Im kinda jealous of mom haircuts.. my hair is long and thick and it takes about an hour just to shower (wash and condition) comb out and dry. But I promised DH I wouldn't get short hair. I feel like one day ill be one of those older hippy ladies who haven't cut their hair since 1976 and its just long and frizzy.

*sigh* I want a personal stylist who will be like this is the perfect cut/color for you! Voilà!

My hair jealousy is back again.

Like I mentioned, my hair grows SUUUUPER slow.  Even if I don't cut it for years, it doesn't get much longer than just below my shoulders.  It's thin, and right now, because I don't want a short mom hair cut, it looks really straggly at the ends.  It's also mousy brown, and I'm greying at the temples... but I'm seriously low maintenance, and I can't stand dying my hair.

My hair makes me cry.  I wish I had long, thick hair.  :(

(Bonus - this is my last pregnancy, so after that PP hair loss, I have forever to actually let it grow and thicken!  Hooray!!)

  • Yes! I actually just spoke with my long distance cousin and told her that I feel like I'm letting myself go and that I want a makeover! But now that I'm getting my energy back, I have more motivation to work on my appearance! As far as shaving goes....ugh! Still hate it! Why do woman have to shave?! Lol men have it so easy!
  • I feel like I'm one of the lucky ones who's hair suits me better short. I've been cutting my hair above my shoulders since college and it's super easy. On top of that it's naturally curly so all I do is brush it and let it air dry. Definitely doable with a little one

As far as showering goes, when DS was teeny (like not rolling yet) I'd put the pack n play right outside the bathroom door where I could hear him and poke my head out to see him. When he got a bit bigger I'd strap him into the infant carrier seat/car seat and put that in the bathroom with me. He couldn't go anywhere but loved the new sights and sounds and I could see him and shower. Problem solved. :)

That being said, it'd be nice to have that extra time to sleep instead of doing basic things to my hair. Im with ya, I'm a super low maintenance person and my hair does not give me that luxury. Lol

  • I've always been big into hair and makeup so I'm trying pretty hard to keep up with it. It's something I love doing each day! Also, I've gained almost 10 pounds at week 16 so doing my hair and putting on some makeup makes me feel so much better.
