Chromosomal Abnormality UPDATE

I had my first High Risk appointment today so they could evaluate the bright spots on the bowel and gender ambiguity. Spots are still there so Dr. said that it's echogenic bowel, which could mean a variety of things from downs/genetic issues to infection or that maybe she just swallowed some of my blood. As far as the gender issue, both he and the tech said they think it's a girl but couldn't be 100% sure. We went ahead and did the amniocentesis today and some blood work. They said I should know some preliminary information in 48 hours and full results in 2 weeks when I go back. I feel a little better, knowing that I have done all that I can to find out what's going on.

Thanks everyone. DH has work tonight and tomorrow so I'm staying with my in-laws so I can rest and just in case there are any complications. It also helps that they keep me from dwelling on negative thoughts. I will keep everyone updated on info as I get it.

I can't say enough how much I love my regular OB and my high risk OB. Today was my first time meeting the high risk OB and he sat with us and explained everything that he saw and every step of the procedure before he did it. I'm thankful that I feel so comfortable with my doctors and that they are doing everything they can.

I got a call from my doctor on Friday and as far as good news, I was told that the baby tested negative for Downs and Cystic Fibrosis. The do, however, think that I need to go through with more testing to see if there are any other genetic disorders because what we thought was a baby girl based on external genitalia is actually, internally, a baby boy. So, we might be facing the possibility that the baby will need surgery to become either boy or girl.

While the news isn't exclusively positive, it must be such a relief that your LO is negative for Downs and CF. Hopefully the further testing will give you more conclusive information. Whatever the case, your LO has strong parents and a good set of doctors on their side! Keeping you in my thoughts!

Thank you everyone. I know I will feel a lot better once I know what the additional testing says and see the 4D ultrasound to see what genitals we are working with. It REALLY makes me happy to feel my baby moving around so much. He/She has been incredibly active today, so that gives me hope that things are going to be ok. I also went for my glucose testing today and the Dr let me hear the heartbeat and that really helped to brighten my day. You ladies are awesome and thank you so much for all of your positive, comforting words!
