Off-Brand Medela Replacement Parts

Has anyone tried the replacement parts from Medela by May Mom or Nene Supply?  What do you think of the quality?  Do you think they have any negative effect on how much milk you can express?  I can get two smaller breastshields, 4 valves, 6 membranes, and new tubes for $5 cheaper than I can buy Medela brand breastshields and pack of 6 membranes.  Cheaper is nice, but if I'm sacrificing quality or output, I'd rather pay more.

Thanks!

Re: Off-Brand Medela Replacement Parts

  • I'd be careful with tubing.  I bought knock-off tubing and it is much more stiff.  It pops off easily and I'm not sure it gets as good a connection.  That's the only thing I've tried, but it made me think twice about buying off brand again.

I have some off brand parts, not sure who they are from, but they seem to work just as well as my Medela parts. The only thing with them is the flange and other piece are fused together, so a little harder to clean. The yellow piece is still separate. Hope that helps!
This! I have to use a Q Tip to clean inside the flange because milk can creep up inside and it is very difficult to clean!

I have the same ones. They are May Mom. Mine came from Amazon.

I actually don't mind the one piece ones!  I got a set of official Medela ones from Target that are one piece.  I think they are easier to clean with the quick wipes when I'm at work and I just use the pipe cleaner brush that comes with my Dr. Brown's bottles when I'm washing them at home.

    Thanks!

  • Another vote for off brand is fine. I haven't noticed a difference and it's SO much cheaper!

  • I have the Maymom set and love the flanges.  It's so much easier than the two pieces.  I haven't used the tubing but when I bought them off of Amazon, I got two full sets of flanges, yellow things, tubes, etc. for half of the price of one Medela set.  I'll never buy Medela again!

  • I also have the non medela pumping accessories as my extra set. I have no problems with them at all and they seem to get clean in the dishwasher. I have bought do much of the tubing because mine kept getting moisture. I just recently learned that happens if my pump parts are even a tiny bit wet.

Hmm.  I really wish I could tell you where I got my sucky (or non-sucky as the case may be) tubing because it sounds like some are just fine, but I picked a bad one.  :-(  It was with DD1, so my amazon order history doesn't seem to go back that far.

ETA - I was an idiot and just didn't see the drop down box to go back in time.  Here is the tubing I got that is crappy and stiff:

  • I bought May Mom membranes and it seems like I've gotten less when pumping since then...but it could just be coincidence and my supply is going down. Hard to say if it's the membranes' fault.  I do like the one-piece flanges though!

  • Thanks @psk I was told to let it run for 10 min, which is totally find when at home but at work I barely have time to pump, but if it was just when I was cleaning up I can probably do it haha
