Target vent

I received my completion coupon for Target, so I went to go get the last few things that we needed. Some of the stuff was online only, so I bought some stuff in store and some online. I had two gift cards as well (one I used in store and one for the online order). I noticed on my receipt though, when I bought the stuff in store, they only took off the 5% for my red card on the portion that I paid for with the red card, not the gift card. On the online order though, it took 5% off the whole purchase. I went back to Target, and asked at customer service. The managers couldn't even tell me why it was different in store vs online, and they just said that they'd give me the money back this time. Has anyone else noticed this?

  • I had issues when using my completion coupon in the store. It kept saying that they things I bought weren't on my registry (which they were...) so they ended up having to manually take 15% off everything. It was a pain. That is typical for the red card v. gift card discount. They scan the gift card to use first, so only the remaining balance gets the 5% that you pay for with the red card. Not sure why it'd be different online, I've only noticed that in the stores.

  • I had noticed this too when ordering online versus in person. I've noticed that when I would ring someone up, the red card takes away 5% of the remaining total after coupons and gift cards have been used. Online, it will take 5% off the subtotal because its not processed the same way as it is at a register in person. I don't know if that makes sense?

    With that said, it seems like a better choice to use gift cards (and any other discounts) online with your red card for maximum saving than in person.


  • We just had this same issue today with items we bought in store! DH is going back tomorrow to make sure they fix it. We also had issues with things on our registry that showed up as a lower online price than in the store. We figured we will just buy it online since the price was cheaper and we can use the coupon. We will be buying the rest of our items online tomorrow so I hope we don't have any issues but if we do then we will go to the store to have them fix it.

  • Unfortunately in the world of retail, online pricing and in-store pricing are not usually "Tied" together because online and brick n' mortar operate as two separate business units.  Some retailers will price-match their own pricing, some will not.  With the gift card / 5% issue -- a gift card works just like cash, whereas the 5% discount is given for the portion that you USE the red card for --that's the incentive for signing up for and using red card.  It is only due to POS issue that you get the discount off the entire purchase when paying online.

  • I had a horrible time using the target registry all together. I really wish I hadn't registered there. And I have told everyone I know not to register there. We barely get anything we needed at the shower because things kept disappearing from the registry or they would no longer carry things I registried for.

  • We got our completion coupon at 10% and everyone keeps saying it's actually 15%. Did you have to call customer service when placing an online order? I plan on doing the whole shebang online cause of the stroller availability.
  • @bdevincenzo‌ Mine said 10% too, but when I ordered, it automatically took off 15%. If it doesn't do it automatically for you, I would call customer service.

  • @bdevincenzo what pp said. I had also had this link (where #3 says 15% completion discount) ready to show the cashier in case there was a problem
