I had to switch my one week old to formula due to lack of milk supply. I know the packages say not to use a bottle that was made over an hour ago, but why is this? Does anyone use the bottle after an hour?
Yes. We were released from the hospital with a bunch of prepared bottles (1 week post partum, no milk was in at that point) and the nursery nurses told us to keep them in the fridge and that they were good to be used within 24 hours. Also that I could warm them up 2x. I used that rule throughout my DD's entire life and never had any tummy issues of any kind. I also mixed a left over oz (from a previous feed) with a new bottle within that time frame.
We had DD in Switzerland (where people freak out a lot less over everything in general) and we didn't have the option of Ready-To-Feed so they pre-mixed bottles for us when we were being sent home late on Saturday night. They gave us enough bottles to hold us over till Monday, as all stores there are closed on Sundays (worker protection laws).
Sorry to hijak the post but...@harmonicbabe26 That is really great information to know. What did they tell you about having prepared bottles while you are out somewhere?
Hmm, don't think I ever brought an already prepared bottle when we were out and about. Typically I'd bring her Avent bottles prefilled with water in the amounts I knew she needed and the formula powder in premeasured amts in these cool dispensers (i will attach a pic). Some of my friends who also used formula used these kinds of dispensers https://www.target.com/p/oxo-tot-formula-dispenser/-/A-14731104#prodSlot=medium_1_1&term=Formula+dispenser Others just used a small plastic container and scooped the powder as needed. Oh but I think if she left a bunch in a bottle I would put it in an insulated bag (my former work lunch bag or side pocket of the diaper bag that was temp controlled, with a blue ice pack. As long as it felt cold to touch later I felt comfortable giving it to her again or mixing with a new batch.
