Re: FFFC....

  • Not very juicy, but I took a 2 hour nap with DD yesterday afternoon while both boys built a massive train track all throughout the dining room.  There were also many other random toys scattered around the house.  I just told DH we had a super fun day:)

  • My confession: I'm freaking out! In 6 ish months I'm going to be holding my LO and I have no idea what to do! Newborns scare me, I never want to hold them cause I'm always afraid I'll break them. I feel like I don't know anything. This all started last night I was trying to sleep then all of a sudden I was in tears, even now I can't stop crying. I know this is hormones but I can't control it.

Can you lovely mommas suggest some resources to help? Any good books or websites that maybe helped you?
  • So I've actually had to work up the courage to share this confession. I fully expect to get flamed for it, but whatever.

I have a drop side crib and I LOVE it!

I'm very careful to always make sure the latches are locked and once LO can stand up, I turn it around so that the drop side is against the wall (just in case, but there's never been an issue). It's just a great crib, especially for the first few weeks after giving birth when I'm too sore to lean over the railing.

there is no book or website that will make you comfortable with newborns, but trust me it will just happen.  I was exactly like you, I still am not really a fan of touching or holding other babies, but once they hand you your own it just works out.

I promise you will be great!

  • I always see people write QFP on the really annoying threads. Well, a lot of the time i'm too lazy to go check out what the acronyms really mean, so I just try to figure out what they say in my head. Well on the "QFP" ones I just figured it meant, "Quit Fucking Posting." So for weeeeks I've been reading it wrong. I finally looked it up, and I like my version better :D

Ha! I thought that at first too!

  • This came to my mind during a recent grocery store trip-- I am super judgy against parents who have obese/overweight children. Unless a child has a medical condition that causes weight gain, I find it so irresponsible that a parent would allow that to happen to their child. As an adult, make your own choices-- but there is no reason why a child should be overweight.

I have a big issue with this one because we have been judged because our daughter is so small and can't gain weight. You don't know the full story of what is happening in that household from a seeing someone at a grocery store.

I completely agree-- I have worked with failure to thrive children and children who are overweight, so I definitely know first hand that there is always more to the story. I feel that if there is more to the story that a parent should seek help from an appropriate expert. However, it doesn't change my view that I judge parents who have obese children.

It is completely different when it's your baby. I know that doesn't make sense and sounds cliché, but it's true. I have 2 kids and I'm still scared to hold other people's newborns. Holding my babies just felt natural though.
    EXACTLY this!

  • People were really bothering me in the A15 UO yesterday. I did say something, but I really wanted to keep going after one girl apologized. She said something like "she had the same issues as a teenager and totally forgot that acne made people feel self-conscious". I'm sorry, if you had fucking acne at any time in your life, you will NEVER forget how self-conscious you felt and how damaging it was to your self-esteem at the time. RRRRRRRRAHHHHHHHHH.

April 15 has been a train wreck so far, I have some May13 friends over there so I have done some stalking/reading.  Wowsers!

FFFC for my husband. I feel bad about his actions but at the same time I kind of understand. I feel bad for understanding though.

DH works with a super hippie who has a super hippie wife. They have 1 son with autism and had been trying again hoping for a 2nd kid with a mental disability. She had 2 ectopic pregnancies in a row and they have destroyed her ability to have more children. I feel awful for her. Her husband has spent the past year telling DH that we're terrible parents because our DS is circumcused, isn't still BF at 2 and is vaccinated. My husband's 1st reaction to my pregnancy was to let this co-worker know that we are expecting and will be vaccinating.

It was super vindictive of him after their recent devastation but this guy goes out of his way to say that we're bad parents who don't love our child, now children. I feel like the worst person ever for even understanding.

  • @jaztastic - I now have a complex.

I totally sneezed and peed on myself this morning and had to change my clothes to come to work.  I'm not talking minor tinkle.  I mean I had been holding it for way too long and my allergies are out of control today.

Typo. It was supposed to say again. They specifically hoped that she would give birth to a mentally disabled child. They were hoping for down syndrome. Hearing that pissed me off to no end. Who wishes that on the unborn? If they want to raise a mentally disabled child that badly there are many children who could be adopted and need loving families and safe homes.

I don't think Moms hating the crib was why they were banned. It was the deaths of babies that caused it.  I had a c-section and if you raise the mattress on an approved crib high enough, you don't have to lean over that far. Seems a little too risky for my liking.

    -------------------------------------------

If you use the crib properly and replace the locks when they start to wear, there really isn't an issue. I can see how there would be a safety issue if you didn't lock the side properly or if it was an older drop side, but I bought mine new 5 years ago.
Also, I'm short and even with the mattress on the highest level, I still had trouble putting my babies in the crib without the drop side down.

Agree 100% (unless the child can not be vaccinated due to health issues of course. So maybe only 99%) ;)

  • I have been asked to write a letter of recommendation for one of my employees to go back to grad school for his second master's degree.  I've been putting it off because he's disappointed me and I'm not entirely sure what to write.  When he came to work for me, I had high hopes of him replacing me one day when I move on.  In the beginning, he seemed to show a lot of promise, now he seems to seriously lack motivation.  He's asked for help with the same issues too many times on things that aren't complicated, begged for a site position then turned it down when he was offered one (big no no here), and shows no desire to learn anything beyond his current role here.  Not to mention, he leaves early or is taking time off every time I turn around.  (Getting angry about that last one makes me feel like a bit of a hypocrite since I have missed too many days IMO since getting KTFU because of migraines.)  This is going to be a tough one.
